"Wine bar near the old city gate There are around 600 wines from all over Italy (and 50 by the glass) to choose from at this wood-panelled wine bar which has a pretty terrace overlooking the old city gate of San Miniato in the buzzy San Niccolò neighbourhood. Lunchtimes are good for a relaxed glass of something and a snack in the sun while evenings, when you can order a plate of delicious pasta or a carpaccio to go with your wine, are more crowded. Wines to go are available in the shop next door. ."

What a shame our last night in Florence was our worst meal. The server, Anna, was clearly trying her best but they were so poorly understaffed and the other staff there seemed unwilling to assist. Dinner took 3 hours without reason. The last place I had 3 hour service involved 2 rounds each of starters, first course, mains, plus dessert. Here we had 3 rounds total. We even had to get our own plates for the olive oil since Anna was the only server and had too many tables to handle. The food was also imbalanced - the spaghetti too salty and the addition of the anchovies rendered it practically inedible. The stuffed rabbit had gristle and bones which wasn't expected considering the way it was supposedly prepared. Overall, eat somewhere else since (reading other reviews) it depends on the staff for how your evening will go.

Google
The food was incredible. One of the best meals we had. Wine was excellent. Service very friendly and quick. Couldn't fault it.

Google
The food was underwhelming. My cod had a bit too much salt. No one else felt that there was anything particular about their dish. Perhaps the tastiest thing was the crostone with brie, honey, walnuts and pear, although come to think of it, I didn’t perceive any pear when I tried it.

Cute little spot conveniently located before heading up the hilltop. My husband and I arrived about 8:40pm and most of the patio was already reserved. The waiter was kind enough to invite us to sit at a patio table with a later reservation (as long as we didn’t sit past 9:30pm). We ordered pate on toasted bread as a starter then a plate of ravioli in a white sauce topped with walnuts, as well as the stuffed rabbit with roasted potatoes. The food was very good and prices very reasonable. The prices were actually really great for the look and location of the place (dishes from 3€-15€). The wait staff was also nice. There are also tables inside as well. Bathroom is clean too!

Google
Awesome place! Staff was great and the food was delicious. We ordered de ñoquis, the boloñesa and a tuna salad perfect for the hot weather. The street is very cozy and the patio perfect for an afternoon lunch. We repeated! The food was so so good and the servers make you feel more than welcome! If I lived in Florence I would definitely be a regular!

Google
High quality food in a beautiful space. Recommend the steak, burrata with grilled vegetables and potatoes paired with a local white wine. All gluten free and delicious.

Perfect food specially the ribollita and the restaurant is so cozy and the staff are so lovely

Google
Really sweet staff and good food! I was delighted to find my favorite wine by the glass on the menu, and the food was delicious. I wouldn’t order fish here because the menu says it might have been frozen. Otherwise, this enoteca should be more popular! A lovely experience.

Yelp
My family and I were utterly disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. It was recommended to us by the staff at the hotel we were staying. First, they kept us waiting for a long time before even giving us menus, while they served others who were seated after us. Then they brought olive oil but forgot to bring the accompanying bread. Then it went downhill from there. Second, we ordered 6 entrées. Spaghetti, fish, and two plates of Tagliolini fatti in casa con pesto. The Tagliolini was not edible, it was bland, smelled bad and tasted like it was missing ingredients. We couldn't eat it, even after trying to add salt, pepper and cheese to improve the taste. Third, we complained about the Tagliolini, and the waitress essentially shrugged her shoulders. There was no attempt to make the situation right, offer something else or not to charge us for what was clearly still 2 full plates of inedible Tagliolini. While the starters (bruschetta and crostini), and the spaghetti and the cod entrees were okay (at least edible), the overall experience of poor service and bad food left a very bad taste in our mouths!

Yelp
Nice outside seating, good stop on way up or back from San Miniato. Attentive service, homey interior. Of course, great wines. This review based just on a wine-stop, not for the food.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Excellent food. Vast wine selection. Beautiful quaint setting. A must see in Firenze.

Yelp
These stars are solely for food and wine selection. Nobody should come to Italy expecting for waiters to be attentive no matter how high scale the restaurant. Tuscany soup was a nice surprise. It was more of a thick tomato sauce in a bowl of crunchy fresh bread. Very flavorful Crostini sandwich with truffle porcino and ham! Oh em gee!!! Grazie! Wine selection is great too! Excellent wine selection. Before it after walk up to the top of the hill to piazzale Michelangelo. You will have a fantastic view of all of Florence! So you can build up an appetite or work off your meal

Yelp
Our friends brought us here and the place is great. It is off the beaten path on the other side of the river from downtown Florence. There was no problem getting a seat as it is kind of a small place. There is outdoor seating as well. I had the salumi plate as an appetizer and that is definitely a shareable plate. There was so much meat and a great variety too. For my main course, I had two halves of two separate dishes. The had the ragu pasta and the baked cheese dish. Both were excellent. The baked cheese was unique and the pasta was so fresh! Wine is so cheap here and good selection. The dessert was so so and that was the reason this wasn't a 5 star. I had the creme brulee.

Yelp
Sardine spaghetti is the best! Highly recommended. Toscana wines are good. Waiter and waitress are very nice. Great location, street view.

Yelp
Stopped here before dinner to have a couple of drinks and some snacks. The server was miserable and the selection of wines was very limited. Good outdoor seating area but would not go back. There are plenty of other bars in area.

Yelp
This place was quite good and one that I would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a drink if they're in the Piazza Michelangelo area. They have a really long and extensive wine list--everyone seems to talk about their cheap prices my wine was 3.5 euros for a glass of a basic Moscato d'Asti (Piedmont)... which is kind of overpriced if you ask me, but it was good nonetheless. I think you go more for the ambience and the ability to just about have any type of wine that you want to drink without having to try too hard. I also decide to order some food since we were there. I got the crostini mix which was only 6 euros but SO worth. I got four giant crostinis of flavors that change daily. Mine were foie gras, mushrooms, brie cheese, and goat cheese. Absolutely worth it and all very delicious. My favorite was definitely the mushroom crostini though, great mix of a variety of flavors. tl;dr come for a great selection of wine, really not as cheap as others say, but worth the price and good atmosphere. also a free wifi spot!

Yelp
We came here after visiting the Piazza del Michelangelo and we were so hungry after the climb! This was the first restaurant we saw with reasonable prices and was open for an early dinner, so we decided to go for it. Not only was the food, wine, beer, and dessert amazing, but our waiter was so patient with us and ended up speaking incredible English. Prices were very reasonable (beer was a little pricey), and the outside patio was perfect for a warm, summer day. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
The Greek salad was good and the pappardelle with duck was average but waiting 50 minutes for the check that never came- even after asking for it three times- was ridiculous. We finally realized that we had to go to the front to pay (only after we overheard our waiter tell another table that asked for their check to do that) - but he never mentioned that once to us in the 50 minutes we waited. Upon going up to pay, we expected poor customer service, but were shocked by the treatment we received. The manager behind the bar helped another customer behind us instead and had no excuse. In fact we were probably only promptly helped after that because the customer behind us stood up for us. Do not expect attentive service or equal treatment among all customers.

Yelp
Consider this a happy hour review. I didn't have dinner. Chill vibe wine bar A mix of locals and tourists which is tough as its near a tourist destination...In my opinion all restaurants within a block or 2 radius of a major tour stop should be avoided. ie time square NYC Yummy crostini ! we had the honey walnut and brie. Do it. They serve the local Birrifico beers, I recommend La 68 it's a wheat unfiltered, yummy on a hot day. Service was great by Italy standards. Meaning Italian waiters will not randomly come check on you, so don't be shy and politely grab them when they go by! "Scuzzzzi Uno mas cerveza por favore" lol:))) Tip them! The service charge on the menu goes to the resto not the waiter and they get paid like s?!t. You should also try tipping in advance ! 5 euro and get ready for great service.

Yelp
This place is located in a very romantic location in the San Niccolo area of Florence, one of my favorite areas of Florence, You really can't get a better location in my book and I love gazing at the city walls while I sip my wine. I recommend sitting outdoors if the weather is good. Pros: Amazing wine list with tons of choices and the right prices. Vermentino from Sardegna, a red from Verona, take your pic and they likely have it. This place can also be a place just to share a bottle with friends with a few crostoni. They also have a small menu which I appreciate, this means they can specialize in their dishes which I find refreshing in a tourist-saturated menu happy city like Firenze. We had a delicious cheese and salami plate and roasted potatoes which were perfect. Desserts were noteworthy as well, torta with semolino was really nice! Cons: service can be a bit slow but it depends on the night. Plus the portions for the price for our cheese and cured meat place was way off. While both were good, We were both very hungry after sharing the two plus a side and they definitely could be more generous considering this runs at least 11/12 euros for each, In this case, I would have appreciate less 'art' and more substance. Conclusion - make this your wine stop while visiting the city, plus its on the way to Piazzale Michelangelo which means you may NEED A wine break on that fun 'hike'

Yelp
Easily our favorite wine bar in Florence. We've been all over - Napa, Paris - the Champagne region, Tuscany, and this wine bar had amazing food and some of the best wine we've EVER tasted. We were in Florence for about a week and we hit this place up at least three times. Great family that owns this place. LOVED IT. Trust me. Go here and order a glass of red wine. The atmosphere is amazing and it's THE BEST wine I've ever had. (And I've had very expensive wine from other regions).

Yelp
The street from Piazzale Michelangelo wound me toward Enoteca Fuori Porta, a delightful restaurant filled with locals. That was an excellent sign. That and the cool air emanating from inside. I peeled my backpack and took a seat inside. There were a few people inside including a man and his dog. I love dogs and it's neat to see so many dog friendly establishments in Europe. This place even had a water dish for this cute dog. I ordered the tortelli di pecorino e pere allo zafferano e papavero (ravioli of pecorino and pears with saffron and poppy) and a 2009 Frescobaldi Chianti (€3). When in Florence, I learned to order the chianti. It was a grand meal. Simple, prepared well, and was filling. The tortelli (€10) arrived remarkably fast accompanied by grated parmesan cheese. It was a sun yellow pasta which reminded me of Tuscan yellow. The sauce was a lighter shade and dotted with poppy seeds. The cheese was light, slightly nutty flavor and crumbly. I couldn't taste the pear, but wonder if the pecorino and pear neutralized each other? Surcharge: €1.50. And watching the interactions, I noticed the familiarity between guests and waitstaff. It's nice to know a restaurant has regulars. In the end, climbing down walls pays off.

Yelp
My gf and I made a pit stop here on our way to Piazzale Michelangelo - and I'm super glad we did. I was initially wary of this place bc it was right along the path to the Plaza, so I obviously suspected subpar service and food for large dolla billlzzzzzz. Fortunately, we were greeted with yummy, moderately priced wine, and some delicious charcuterie. We took advantage of the outdoors seating on the gorgeous evening, so that added to the experience. The waitstaff was friendly and they accept credit card! Plus free wifi! Great place to stop for a snack and some vino! :)

Yelp
Stopped in on our way from the piazza. Enjoyed a nice prosecco. A couple of the previous reviewers note poor service but I found the service to be pretty standard, similar to the service we've had at other places when traveling around Italy the last 10 days. It is not, nor does it look like a quick in/quick out type of place. Tables on both sides ordered food and I was wishing we hadn't picnicked at the piazza as the food both looked and smelled delicious.

Ulan B.

Yelp
Reasonable prices but below average food. The Greek salad was completely over spiced/salted. Tuna salad looked like it came just out of a can. The burger was sad. Roasted potatoes tasted like they were prepared a day before. Crostoni was good.
google avatar

Cindy R.

Yelp
The stuffed rabbit was perfectly cooked and tender. The truffle, ham and pecorino cheese crostini had wonderful mushrooms! The octopus too! They also have a great wine list for bottles or by the glass.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
Service was unusually slow, even by Italian standards and the food was neither traditional or inspiring. We has the pici with ragu - very salty and dry, burrata with vegetables - basically a glob of cheese and some steamed spinach, and the prosciutto and pecorino - neither were of very good quality. On the positive side, the place is comforate blue and has a terrific patio with a view of the old gates to the city.
google avatar

Denise H.

Yelp
Best meal we had so far in Italy. Off the beaten path, away from the crazy touristy areas but still not far from the city (just over the Ponte al Grazie bridge). Try the Crostoni with truffle sauce, mushroom, ham, and scamorza cheese... Outstanding!!!
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
Nothing personal, but this restaurant did not suit my and my wife's taste. We ordered a traditional crostoni with cheese, tomato and basil. It was good, but not great. I then had tagliatelle which was alright. Pretty plain and it took a long time to come. We actually thought they had forgotten about us. My wife had shark carpaccio which she did not like at all or even consider edible (extremely salty). I ended up eating her dish, which I thought was alright. Maybe we ordered poorly, but we were not impressed. This experience was not something I would expect out of a place with 4+ stars.

Yelp
The location and the outdoor atmosphere here is stellar but sadly the quality of the food and the service was mediocre. We had a reservation for two outside and our waitress was extremely abrupt and rude. She told us we were ordering too much food. It was kind of comical actually - my friend Maryruth is a chef and we are both foodies. We hadn't ordered too much for us as we were interested in trying a variety of plates. When we scaled back our order slightly after she basically told us NO, we settled on one app and one primi pasta to split. And then each a secondi of our own: the vegetable flan w/ burrata and the almond crusted cod. The waitress still insisted that we not order this food. At which point I put my foot down and said we will be having this. She finally obliged. The crostini was okay - a little on the stale side and was haphazardly thrown together in a paper basket. The primi ravioli (w spinach and sage butter) was fantastic!!! And my fish was far too salty. The atmosphere as I said was great but otherwise I don't recommend it for a meal.

Emily B.

Yelp
This was probably one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. Not because the food was bad, but because the service was absolutely horrible. Do not come to eat here unless you're looking to wait over an hour just to order drinks/your meal. Our entire visit was two hours and we were looking for a quick bite to eat before we visited piazza del Michelangelo. The owner and waiters offered no explanation as well. I downloaded this app just to warn others. I do not recommend.

Yelp
This was easily one of the best stops we made in Florence. We stumbled upon it and had some of the best meant we had in all of Italy! We would go back every day if we could. The beef carpaccio was the best we had in all of our Europe trip. Sit down have a glass of wine and some meat. Don't miss it :)

Shelby H.

Yelp
The food was amazing. My husband and I kept having poor pasta experiences, but this place did not disappoint!

Yelp
We ate at Fuori Porta because we (family of 5 with college age kids) were staying nearby and had a wonderful meal! At first I was annoyed because I was told the many empty tables on the sidewalk were reserved so we had to sit inside, but my annoyance melted away at the first bite of my swordfish tartar. Best dish I've had so far in Italy after a week - seasoned to perfection with citrus, great for a hot summer night. We also had spaghetti with basic pomodoro sauce with and without tuna (soulful and delicious, big portion), huge tuna salad w/high quality marinated tuna, delicious caprese salad and crostini. And good wine and beer. Then ended with creamy tiramisu and flourless chocolate cake - we fought over both dolci. I know others had bad experience with the food, which is too bad, but ours was really delicious. Service was also good once it got rolling. I can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Clint B.

Yelp
Fuori Porta is a great wine bar with some the greatest selection of wine you could ask for. There's a beautiful outside patio with an amazing view along with great music and great food. http://youtu.be/8miQm5V2CPk

Yelp
The star rating is for our food only bc our waitress was actually really sweet and it's not her fault that the food was sh**. First time in Florence and I am soooooo disappointed. We had the 'special' ravioli as well as the ragu spaghetti- by far the worst meal I have had while in Italy (coming from Rome and Tuscany). Everything was extremely bland- no flavor at all. And to top it off it is expensive for the portion size- my husband received 5 ravioli for his meal and my plate was small-medium sized, had 2 drinks (beer and wine) as well as the crostini which is hard to mess up (just melted cheese on bread really) and this all cost us over €40! I was hungry but couldn't even finish bc it was so bad. We are shocked that this place has had so many good reviews, maybe we caught them at a bad time? Either way there are many other places to go so pass on this one.

Norma S.

Yelp
Mediocre food and horrible service. Three meals order and only one was good. Our server never came back to our table to ask us if we needed anything and he never once cracked a smile. Would not recommend.
google avatar

R T.

Yelp
The crostini is amazing here. The ambience is incredible with outdoor seating. Came here after seeing the piazza de Michelangelo. Was just perfect. Staff is friendly and prices very fair
google avatar

Thomas R.

Yelp
This was our least enjoyable meal in Florence. We ordered crostones that lacked flavor. The service was marginal at best. It's probably a good place for cocktails on the patio but we suggest alternatives for food. We had a great meal the next day a couple of blocks up the street.
google avatar

Cassidy J.

Yelp
We stopped here because of a recommendation in the New York Times. We were pleased to find moderate prices for delicious food and wine. There were adequate vegetarian options. The wait staff was helpful, when you could get a hold of them (but I suspect that's just an Italian thing).

G M.

Yelp
My wife and I agreed that the best meal we had in Florence was lunch at Fuori Porta. It's a perfect place to stop if you're taking the walk to San Miniato. The dishes are classic without being overly traditional, and they're perfectly prepared with fresh ingredients. It's situated on a quiet street right outside of the old city walls, and it was pleasant to eat at one of their outdoor tables. The service was also very friendly, casual and efficient.

Cindy M.

Yelp
If I could give Zero stars I would. Bad service. Maybe because we are American but they let some locals cut in line and we had to wait 30 minutes for the waiter to take our order. We left after we were not offered water or a glass of wine. Went across the street for dinner and it was amazing. Do not come here if you want good food and service. Awful experience.

P C.

Yelp
One of the best Enotecas in town. Great selection of wine s by the glass and a variety of plates of nibbles and eats of top quality tuscan foods. Pleasant ambience, attentive service, takes charge cards. Can source wines from all over and ship to where ever allows it. Five -star place.

Sean D.

Yelp
We had two great lunches here, enjoying the delicious food and wine, along with the friendly wait staff. There is a warm interior to eat in on cool days, and a nice sidwealk area for warm days.
