Ensana Buxton Crescent

"The 19th century was a golden age for Buxton, when high society traveled from around the UK to bathe in the town’s thermal waters. Today, guests of the Buxton Crescent, in the rolling hills of the UK’s Peak District, can still “take the waters” in a historic hotel with all of the modern comforts. Among the eight treatment rooms, many of which retain the original 18th-century stained-glass windows, the spa offers a wide range of treatments, from hot stone massages to CO2-infused mineral baths to hydra glow facials. The facilities feature biothermal and infrared saunas, an indoor-outdoor rooftop pool, a moody relaxation pool, and fully refurbished Victorian baths filled daily with thermal water. The salt cave can be a salve for respiratory conditions." - Caitlin Gunther

What a lovely stay! It was lovely to have access to the spa for the nights we spent at this lovely hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was centrally located for Peak District sights. The only note was that our room was on an offset floor and did not have direct access to the lift. We initially declined help with our luggage and really regretted it due to the narrow halls and stairs. Thankfully, the help was offered again at checkout and we accepted gratefully. The location of the room did make it nice and quiet. There could be more counter space in the bathroom for organizing our toiletries, but the renovated/refitting was well appointed otherwise.

We had a nice stay but I don’t think this can be described as a 5* hotel. The room was lovely - spacious, nicely furnished, clean. The building is very impressive too. The rooftop pool was nice but needs more seating / sun loungers. There were unfortunately qualities missing you would expect from a 5* hotel. Staff seemed chaotic and poorly trained, particularly at breakfast. Spa experience was poor - booked onto the body scrub at £75 which involved having a shower halfway through. The massage therapist kept disappearing off to run the shower throughout and returning with cold hands so the experience wasn’t particularly relaxing. Then informed me that the shower was running cold which was common because the building is so old. Then disappeared off to locate some mittens which were then used in an attempt to remove the scrub (also soaked in cold water). Not a criticism of the massage therapist who was just doing her best with the resources she was given. If this is a common issue I’m surprised the spa continues offering treatments requiring a shower midway through, and I had hoped at least a partial refund would be offered on the day because of the issues I experienced, but it wasn’t.

Generally a very pleasant experience.... The Spa facilities are very good, the room was very well appointed, the quality of the breakfast was excellent and the location was fantastic. I would state that it is at the high end of the budget but you do receive generally good service with some of the small touches added (dog hamper when bringing a pet) a real treat. I would stay here again and my partner enjoyed her birthday weekend.

We chose this hotel to celebrate our mum’s 80th birthday and from the very first phone call enquiry to our final check out it did not disappoint. |Telephone reservation staff were attentive and helpful in the running to arranging our family reunion. We even received a phone call a few weeks prior checking if we had any special requests. |Booking spa treatments could not have been easier. |We booked the valet parking and this meant we could pull up outside and not worry about the car again until check out. Parking is limited in Buxton and we felt the valet parking was worth it. |The rooms are spacious and we all commented on how comfy our huge beds were. The products in the bathroom are Penhaligons to add a touch of luxury. |The spa is spacious with a variety of facilities meaning that it never felt over crowded. We enjoyed the roof top pool and some of our party enjoyed relaxing facials. Aswell as time in the relaxation rooms.|Breakfast offered a variety of options as well as cooked food which you order at the table and is brought to you. |Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Everyone was wishing mum a happy birthday and she thoroughly enjoyed her special pampering birthday. The hotel is well located with some beautiful parkland to walk in and shops and restaurants nearby. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return.

We stopped as part of a package which include dinner and breakfast. Our stay included the use of the Spa facilities.|We had a lovely room overlooking the Crescent. The room was well equipped, clean and spacious. The bathroom had a bath and separate shower.|We used the Spa facilities twice and on both occasions the Spa was kept clean and all facilities were in good working order. Once gripe would be that the showers in the Spa area only provided cold. Apart from that issue, we found the experience both time very enjoyable.|The service at the restaurant, where we ate our dinner was exemplary. The staff were attentive and checked on us a number of time to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. The food itself was superb, both our meals were well presented and more importantly tasted amazing. A similar theme followed for breakfast.|Was only a short trip to Buxton, but from what we saw it seemed like a very pleasant place to visit.|We will certainly be looking to return to this hotel in the future.

The cost was the most we have paid for 1 night (£205). (The July Buxton Fringe Art Festival was in full swing, which might have pushed up the demand and the price.) But because of the town, the Peak District, and the excellent Hotel food, I would recommend it for a special birthday, anniversary or other celebration. Positives: Breakfast: I'm not too bothered what I eat, but my wife is very discerning. (Nearly all restaurants we try don't measure up.) We both agree the food for breakfast was really exceptionally fabulous for both quality and choice. Lovely smoked haddock, black pudding, fruit salad bowl, smoothy and more... all we tried was v good. The double bed was v comfortable underneath us, and solid.. didn't disturb the other when one of us moved in the night. Very pleasant staff: the man who welcomed us at the main entrance was extremely helpful and pleasant and helped several times during our short stay. In fact, all the staff were good, and many of them seemed to be happy in their work, which created a v pleasant atmosphere. Very nice to be able to swim in the open air (on the roof) in a warm pool. (There was another pool but we didn't have time to try.) Buxton and the Peak District: the view from the road from Leek to Buxton became more and more beautiful as we approached Buxton, Buxton town centre is v pretty. But mostly, I haven't before seen the Peak District up to Castleton.. maybe it was the sunshine, but the Peak District is totally awesome, extremely beautiful. Just a vast expanse of beautiful, remote, peaceful, awesome scenery. Negatives: The duvet was a problem.. too thick and hot for both of us. Two thinner double bed duvets one on top of the other would have been better for us, to give us more choice. There was a useful fridge in the room... some fresh milk in the fridge would have would have been nice. As it was, there were not enough milk sachets for the tea, coffee and drinking chocolate. The indoor-outdoor roof top pool has rather too much underwater-seating which is a bit of a hazard.. not easy enough to see and avoid. It is possible to swim lengths, but you have to be a bit careful when you first go in.

We were very impressed with the hotel. Great location, nice new decor & very clean. The staff were helpful & friendly. The food was excellent both at breakfast & dinner. A great wine selection and variety on the children's menu, not just the standard junk food. The outdoor heated pool is very nice, our 3 yr old absolutely loved it. We will definitely be back!

Our stay at Buxton Crescent was wonderful from start to finish. My friend and I received a complimentary upgrade to a junior suite - very much appreciated to make our break away from our respective kids much more relaxing. The staff at check-in were brilliant - we had a great chat and were all laughing about our plans for the night and how excited we were about the room upgrade. The room was splendid and had multiple seating areas and the beautiful large bathroom with roll top bath I've come to know and love from this hotel. We spent a few hours in the spa in the evening and again in the morning. Both times, even when it was a little busier, we were able to do all that we wanted to do - the different heated pools were my favourite experience by far. The beds were extremely comfortable and we experienced little noise from the surrounding area at bedtime - we both had a very pleasant sleep. Breakfast was nice and I appreciated how ordering was very simple. Unfortunately we had to leave in a bit of a hurry as my husband (who had kindly booked the trip as a gift for us) was in a cycling accident on the morning of out departure. The lady at reception when we checked out couldn't have been more helpful and kind when I told her what had happened.
