The FREE Dijon Art Museum is a fantastic museum if you have a few hours and are interested in exploring another French museum. I mention free in caps because I always seem to struggle to confirm whether or not a museum is free. If I can't quickly find it on the website and I have to scroll through a couple pages of reviews to confirm, then it is not as easy as it should be. I don't know if that happened to me at the Dijon Art Museum, but it did happen to me at least a few times on my France trip.
The Dijon Art Museum has a little bit of everything including archaeology, history, and art. The historical artifacts could all be placed in the art category based on their intricate designs. The spoons, doors, swords, and armor at the museum were not made for the ordinary person; they were made for royalty and to be appreciated. Based on the delicate nature of the spoons, I doubt that they were even used. Part of me wishes that there were a few rooms in the museum to show what ordinary citizens used as forks, knives, hairbrushes, and doors in the 1500s. Maybe they didn't even have hairbrushes.
