One of the OG bakeries in Honolulu, Epi-Ya changed owners during COVID but is still going strong. I've visited this bakery whenever I need dinner butter rolls or pastries for work. They offer a large variety of pans, buns, and rolls at reasonable prices. Like most bakeries, grab a tray, tongs and wax paper near the entrance before you start grabbing your pastries. Out of respect dont take a pastry and put it back. Grab what you will buy. I highly recommend this place. The service is often slow, even when it's busy, but the amazing smell and vast bread options give you plenty of time to wander around until you're ready to buy. I was going to take more pictures inside but it was a busy day.

Google
Nice bakery with a large selection of different pastries. We have bought various savory pastries there a couple of times and liked all of them. If you want to grab a delicious wiener roll or ham roll, definitely give it a try.

Google
Nice bakery but I think it would've taste better if I came earlier when it's fresh out the oven. The shio butter roll was pretty good. I like that they use real sausage for the weiner roll. A lot of ppl came in for loaves of bread rather than the items on display.

Google
I go they are mainly for the French bread. But something has changed the last three times I’ve bought bread from there. The recipe is not the same. The taste is different and when you cut the bread inside of the bread even looks different. I would like a response from the owners to let us know why you may changes and if you’re gonna go back to the old recipe

Google
I would rate it higher if I could. Everything we tried was fresh and excellent, and we tried a lot. The glazed donuts are the best donuts of any variety I’ve ever had, and the croissants have a perfect texture/flavor. Our kids are three pepperoni pizza breads and we tried different dessert pastries. Strongly recommend you try them!

Google
Best custard pie since Dee Lite Bakery. Chef used to work there, so very similar and only pie that brings me back to Dee Lite's. The top just isn't slightly glazed or burnt way I liked it at Dee Lite Bakery, but overall close enough. The prices are a bit stiff, but to have it once in awhile is worth it.

Saw this cute bakery with the NOW OPEN sign and decided to give it a try. I bought a loaf of raisin bread and they offer to slice it to your desired thickness. It was so soft and yummy! The kids loved their chocolate chip muffin and ther cream (custard) pastry. I will have to come by for their raisin bread again and to try their sweet and savory bakery items!

Google
Mediocre. Just my 2nd time going here. Some were good some not great. Most of the items I feel are overly priced. The only reason I’m writing a review is because of my weird experience yesterday. It’s mostly that I felt bad for their cashier, a young lady. I don’t know if she was new. Regardless, the other worker should not have scolded/corrected her at that moment. The young cashier already rung me up and I’ve paid $18.80 charged with my cc but asked for a bag which I paid with cash .21cents, I think. She corrected her right there and then and told me she’ll need to void charge and ring my purchase over because apparently one item was charged wrong. I ended up paying $22.83 which is fine. I was just aghast at how she handled it! People have feelings! If it was my bakery, I would’ve just let it go and talk to cashier in private. And as a good will gesture just let it go with original charge. It left a bad taste in my mouth. 😬

Yelp
Cute little bakery in town with lots of fresh baked goods. The baked goods range from sweet to savory- some on the line and some pre-packaged. There's a board by the registers that is updated to reflect which breads are baking, which are able to be cut and times. When you enter, there are tongs, serving trays and a paper to put down on the serving trays to add all your goodies. average price so around 5 bucks which is kinda steep, but the pastries all tasted great. It can get pretty packed in there but the workers are quick at the register and move things along rather efficiently.

Yelp
Located next door to 99 seafood House is Epi-Ya Bakery, which we stop by to see what they have and they were sold out of a lot and there shelves were empty no pasties except for some refrigerated pies and freshly baked breads and some cookies. Maybe next time need to go early!

Yelp
For all of you that grew up in Hawaii and went to Times, Epi-ya is a Saint Germain, essentially. And I'm so happy I can still get my fix now that Saint Germain is gone! I love this quaint little bakery's ham roll, curry pan, fresh breads with no preservatives, and their other sweet and savory delights! Each pastry is about $3-5, so not terrible. You could def eat 2 for breakfast (kind of on the small side) and not too heavy, regardless of pastry. I like that they cut the bread to your desired thickness and they'll heat the pastries for you--just ask! In addition, they've got pies, custards, cold sandwiches and drinks in the cold case up front. Service is efficient, with the workers being nice enough. They take credits cards, but if you want an itemized receipt, you generally really have to ask (lady in front of me found out the hard way).

Yelp
Bread was awesome Think my box brownies are better than their brownies... their brownies are so small and dry. The palm leaves were blah. Very disappointing I'd only go for the bread.

Yelp
Epi-Ya located next to Times Supermarket Beretania. Same building as Grace's. Parking in a private parking lot, some street parking available. Known for their Japanese style breads. Our favorite is the Shio Butter Croissants. They have an awesome selection of fresh baked goods. Locally owned and operated. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It's a small shop, there may be a line but it moves very quickly. Definitely a must try.

Yelp
I didn't know this location existed... It's a little hidden, and Parking is small. The pastries are amazing.... They have so much to choose from including all the breads. It's a small little location, parking is limited, it's basically grab and go type of bakery. The service is quick and friendly.

Yelp
Been trying new bread and keeping the fav Epi. Coissant is definitely a must try as well as Melon Pan!

Yelp
Didn't get a taste, but a Fuji Apple Pie is $48? Yikes. I'll take my $10s worth of 2 pastries and a baguette and run.

Yelp
I loved them when they were trying to perfect their round sourdough bread ..little did they know it was perfect. Their breads are amazing pillowy soft. Everyone loves the custard pie. Comparable to lees. Custard lovers should also try the custard cups my friend just loves them. Super happy they didn't move far from Manoa.

Yelp
Japanese style bakery. Lots of savory or sweet options as well as loads of bread. I love their chocolate croissant, my new favorite and I will definitely go back and grab another. the croissant is buttery and has roasted almond slivers onto which adds a delicious nutty flavor. If you are looking for something savory and full of flavor I would highly recommend the onion bun! It is a mix of green onions and round onions and it has a bit of kick to it. Initially you don't taste the chili flavor until it hits the back of your throat. I wouldn't describe it as spicy but as a sensation of heat. The other two pastries I got were delicious but the onion bun and chocolate croissants definitely stood out to me!

Yelp
Like I said in my review of Okayama, there are some other cutesy pastry shops around town, and this being one of them. It's a gem...a hidden gem. If you do not know where you're going, you'll be lost. It's in the times supermarket area, so just go there and park. You'll see it tucked away in a corner. Once in, grab a tray and some tongs, and make some selections. Lots to choose from. My advice is to grab whatever you like from the back. PARENTS: DON'T BRING YOUR KIDS IN HERE! WATCH YOUR KIDS!! THEY WANT TO TOUCH EVERYTHING! And that's what I observed. Even told one child, please don't touch because she was poking at one of the pastries. I think her brother touched a loaf of bread and the father told him is that what you want, and put it on the tray. But they weren't watching their kids and they were roaming around. So I also suggest grabbing goods from the top shelf which they can't reach. The staff is friendly, and they should have some watching the floor. I'll definitely come back when I'm in town.

Yelp
This is becoming one of favorite Japanese bakeries here in Honolulu. Baked goods are moist and fluffy. Some of new bakeries do not measure up to standard and pricing here at Epi-ya. Yaki soba bread was delicious and filling. Hokkaido melon bread light and airy. I can go on and on but I won't lol. They always have new products they sell. I recently went to get their matcha anpan bread recently released, plenty of matcha filling, just right size. Love parking free here though shared with Times and other businesses in area. I'll be a returning customer.

Yelp
A bakery run by Japanese people. It's popular and always crowded with people. I love Japanese puddings and custard, so I recommend their custard pudding, custard pie, and Danish pastry. If you have a Japanese friend who grew up and lived in Japan for a long time, I'm sure they would be delighted with their custard pudding as a souvenir. Japanese people like custard pudding more than cookies or chocolate. I'm sure you have fond memories of eating it often as a child. The popular bread on this day was a slice of bread filled with sweet green bean paste. There are many types of non-sweet breads, and the series is delicious. There are also sour breads, and I recommend these European-style breads.

Yelp
Custard pie had a metal weird taste. Purchased the pie again thinking it was just that batch but i taste that weird metal taste again. I give up!!! I will continue to patronize Lee's bakery where they make the best custard pies. I will stick to the japanese breads which they will cut to different thickness upon request.

Yelp
One of my favorites and an original bread shop on island. Epi-ya differentiates itself from other shops by having classic Japanese and French products under one cute little roof. The inside is a bit of a maze, but they work with what they got as far as space and it's not too hard to figure out. Be sure to get here early to grab the freshest bread, pies, and pastries; and most of you all you definitely want to beat the morning rush if you're stopping by to pick up before work (like I usually do). But don't worry, even if you're behind five people, the cashier's are swift and know what to do to get you rung up as fast as possible. If it helps, you can ask to package certain things together in one bag, or all in one box, or not at all to save yourself the time. If you're like me, I'm eating one right when I get in the car so I just tell them, "no need to wrap that one." Some of my favorites are: Brioche, butterflake roll, nutella muffin, onion bread, and shumai bun. Although, I did take one star off because pricing is starting to not match the value. I know, I know, the businesses don't have too much control over that because they need to pay bills. But price to value can really affect how some people (like me) see how great a business is. I don't know about you, but living in Hawaii requires me to try to get the best bang-for-my-buck. It broke my heart when the shumai bun went from 2 shumai to one in just a few months after launching.

Yelp
Breeeeeeeeeead! gimme gimme gimme! The smell.. wow.. I was in the parking lot (Times Supermarket) and could smell this bakery and had to stop in. NOT planned at all and I am so happy I did. This is a small but packed full of items that you can salivate over. I love this place because you can buy a loaf of the freshest bread ever and then slice it to you own specifications! How cool is that. So maybe thicker slices for some ono french toast? Medium for some toast for avocado and eggs? Or thin to maybe toast for garlic bread? So many options. The bread is so good. So soft and yummy. They have all kinds of cookies and pastries also. I will 100% be going back weekly for my bread.

Yelp
Definitely visit this bakery in the early morning hours to pick up hot fresh pastries and breads. We were here by 8:15 am. Everything smelled just baked. We picked up the double hot dog buns and ham and cheese rolls and both were still hot to touch. We continued with a Butterflake roll, cinnamon roll and an anpan with Okinawan sweet potato. Service was quick and courteous. The counters appeared clean. Food 5 out of 5 Service 5 out of 5 Ambiance 4 out of 5 Overall 4.5

Yelp
Come early to get all your faves. Later into the day, selection is limited as they sell out. My absolute fave place for ham rolls. They don't use any preservatives in their ingredients. Their freshly baked bread is sooo good. You can choose the thickness of slice you want. If I lived in town, I would come here all the time. But I live deep into the West side. However, when the craving strikes, I will driveel to town just to get my favorites from Epi-ya. I was sad that they didn't have the chocolate almond loaf today. But it's passed 1pm and came on a whim since we were already in town. I was glad they did have a few ham rolls, though. The raisin knots with sesame are another fave of mine. Soft and yummy. They don't skimp on raisins. Tried the curry anpan and vegetable croquette buns this time. The curry anpan were so good! My kids said the croquette were good.

Yelp
We stopped by for a treat and had the shio butter which is like a batter croissant with sea salt on top and a couple of pastries. Everything tasted good. Service was great, they answered our questions and made recommendations.

Yelp
12/9/23 Over the past few months I've seen posts of this bakery. Finally yesterday we made an effort to find it since we were in town for a program and had an appointment right after. We followed Yelp's directions to get there. Parking was difficult since it's in a shared lot with other businesses and we actually circled about 4 times. I sent hubs in cuz I have limited mobility at the moment cuz we needed 3 little treats to take to our appointment. Hubs took a few photos and sent them to me to decide. I told him which ones to get and not to forget the custard pie I had heard about from Bruddah Fran. When hubs returned to the car he arrived with a tote bag he purchased with the goodies inside. I was kinda disappointed cuz the cylinders of shortbread were like the height of my index finger: so tiny yet cute. The size of the cookies were like my thumb and index finger made into a circle. We also got 5 ginger bread men and the pie which we had for dessert after dinner. Smooth and creamy. Almost but... I'm still on the search for the flavor of my childhood memory of Deelite custard pie. As for the gingerbread men, one had its forehead bent up, not completely flat like the others. One had a mad faced eyebrows so I decided to try that one now. It has a subtle gingerbread taste. One cookie went to the assistant of our investment advisor along with the shortbread that also went to two others in that office. The two remaining cookies will be given to the grandkiddies tomorrow at another performance. Hubs liked their shop and was excited to share what he saw with me. One day I will need to step into that bakery myself. Happy holidays 2023.

Yelp
I've been back so many times now, I felt the need to make a list of my favorite go-to items so I don't forget-- Savory: 1) Shio butter croissant - I buy it and eat it standing outside the shop, because it's SO GOOD fresh. I usually go back into the store to buy a few more to share! 2) Pork hash /siu mai bun (there could be more pork hash inside of the bun, but what is there is super juicy/flavorful and the perfect complement to the soft bun outside) 3) Pepperoni pizza (I don't think I've ever had a better pepperoni roll from a bakery! It's not real pizza but has all the flavors of one, in a convenient bun form) 4) Dinner butter roll (it's the perfect little roll to stuff a croquette/fried cutlet into for a quick snack/meal) Sweet: 1) Pain de beurre (this is a newer item, reminds me of Taiwanese dried milk bread with the buttery/milky filling, so decadent but light) 2) Nutella roll (like a mini nutella croissant) 3) Almond cookie sticks (reminds me of the flaky layers of a Napolean, but in almond form; a little pricey but they are addictive and a special treat) 4) Custard pie (not too sweet, nice silky texture, and flaky crust).

Yelp
If you're looking for some amazing pastries and breads, this place is fantastic. It's a charming small bake shop with excellent customer service. I have never been disappointed coming here, whether I'm getting a baguette or a cake, this is a great neighborhood place.

Yelp
If you weren't looking for a fusion French-Japanese bakery, you want to make plans for this hidden gem! From baguettes to pastry, you'll love everything you order.

Yelp
I used to come all the time when it was Saint Germain's Bakery. I used to love their rainbow cake and ham rolls. I was sad when they closed. To my surprise another bakery took over the spot. It's now Epi-Ya. I've only been here a handful of times since they opened. Everyone seems to come here for the custard or pumpkin custard pies. My friend bought both, so we could try it out. It was actually very good. I love the custard as it had a bouncy texture. Taste wise, I prefer the pumpkin custard combo. How can anyone go wrong with that combo? They put the pumpkin in first then layer the custard, so you get the best of both worlds.

Yelp
When you have cravings and it's late Sunday afternoon... They are closed on Tuesday btw but are open 6am-6:30pm all other days which is quite unusual for bakeries as they are known to close early as they need to prepare for the next day. Well I get a call from mom for something more so cakes...uhhh didn't think it was a good idea but to give her something to make her happy thought some pastries sounded like a better choice and already being a late Sunday honestly don't have much choices and selections as well but have found Epi-Ya on South Beretania on the same plot with Times Supermarket. Walking in I get the same vibe as Saint Germaine down to the nostalgic "Butterflake Roll" I've gotten too many times at the OG Shirokiya and it tastes the same, very proud to not use any preservatives I do love the slight description on each items. Even at the late afternoon the flow of people that come in you know are regulars as they walk in and ask for exactly what they want and it's not just pastries but pumpkin and apple pies, cheesecakes, tiramisu, and tons of bread loaves, cookies, and rolls. The friendliest staff and the incredible selection found here it's no wonder they all flock over for basically everything freshly made right here! Thank you!

Yelp
Yum! One of the better bakeries in town! They have fresh loaves of bread which are really really good! Just like Japan!

Yelp
Who remembers those delicious and colorful guava, lilikoi and rainbow chiffon cakes from Dee Lite Bakery that were used for many birthday celebrations? Dee Lite Bakery first opened in Honolulu in 1959. St. Germain Bakery, which opened in Honolulu in 1977 and expanded to four locations in Kahala, Waipahu, Beretania, and Dillingham; it subsequently acquired Dee Lite Bakery in Feb. 1990. St Germain continued to offer these signature cakes, as well as Japanese-French style of breads and pastries; however, St Germain closed in Aug. 2018 due to a tough economy and a downturn in business. Several employees of St. Germain, who total 100+ years of baking experience, decided to continue its legacy by starting a new bakery, Epi-Ya Boulangerie & Patisserie. The bakery's new name reflects two cultures: "Epi" from pain de'epi, is the French name for wheat stalk bread, which is one of the bakery's specialties; and "ya" is the Japanese suffix for a food shop. Epi-ya is headed by Regina Lugue, General Manager and owner, who worked for St. Germain for 24 years in retail sales; and head baker, Yoshikazu Sato, who had 38 years of work experience at St. Germain. Epi-Ya opened in Mar. 2019 at St. Germain's former location on Beretania Street next to Times Supermarket. Epi-Ya continues to be a successful venture, as it offers Artisan breads, French-style pastries, pies, cookies, and sandwiches. While it had hoped to offer the signature chiffon cakes from Dee Lite and St. Germain bakeries, it has not. The original owners of Dee Lite Bakery, Sue and Herbert Matsuda, created the recipes, including the guava chiffon cake, in the 1960's; however, both have passed on, with their secret recipe that was never shared with family or friends. Some of my favorite items are: * Shio butter roll. The crust is slightly crisp and flaky, and the inside soft and chewy, and topped with a sea salt sprinkle. So very addictive! * Arabiki roll. The roll is soft and chewy, which contrasts with the crispy skin of the arabiki hot dog, giving it a nice crunch. * Ham roll. A slice of ham is intertwined with round onion slices and mayo in this soft and fluffy roll. Delicious! * Butterflake roll. A light flaky roll coated with a sugar glaze that is not overly sweet. You can taste the freshness of the roll, as it breaks up in layers. * Raisin sticks. Soft and chewy bread sticks that are loaded with raisins! * Jumbo shumai roll (new item). The soft buttery bun has a Japanese-style shumai as its filling. Got the last one, and it was very tasty! Epi-Ya's offerings are extensive and include sausage rolls; muffins; fruit tarts; danishes; an pan; melon pan; croissant; cookies; butter topped dinner rolls; cute little pizzas; sandwiches (pastrami, roast beef, deviled egg, turkey pesto); turnovers; and more. They also offer their popular pies (custard, pumpkin, custard/pumpkin, apple) that are high in demand during the holiday season, and you can buy them by the slice or whole pies. And their top selling breads (Family or white, raisin, whole wheat, French, butter top) are very popular, being soft, light and fluffy, which are baked throughout the day at certain times with the option of slicing them in thicknesses that you desire. As you enter the bakery, grab a tray, line it with paper, grab your tongs, and grab what you want. Simple! However, note that at times, the pay line can get rather long and will meander within the bakery. Almost all items are ready for purchase a few hours after the bakery has opened. Breads are out of the oven at different times of the day, with a time schedule posted. Popular items sell out by the afternoon, and although some items are replenished, some are not; so best to go mid-morning if you want your favorites. Employees are efficient, friendly and willing to answer any questions. Hours of operation are Wed to Mon 6a to 6:30p, Tues closed. Free parking is available in the private lot that is shared by Times and other businesses. I love that the baked items are so fresh and are not overly sweet. Epi-Ya is one of my favorite bakeries that I often have cravings for. Only wish that they could revive the chiffon cakes of the Dee Lite Bakery era and perhaps, that day will come. In the meantime, I always look forward in returning to try their different pastries and breads.

Yelp
My family's current go-to patisserie for baked goods if we get tired of the occasional breads at Sing Cheong Yuan, the anpan buns at Don Quijote, or the turtle bread at Honu. Definitely surprised by the raisin bread there! Not too sweet and a popular favorite with the older demographic. I personally enjoyed the chocolate croissants and their various sweeter croissant loaves with almond and chocolate paste or cinnamon and apple. Definitely not a huge fan of the savory options offered but I can tell the pastries are made with love and care. The quality of the breads and presentation make it worth the trip to come back for more, despite the price points. Try to come in the mornings before things sell out. It gets very very busy there and seems like it's frequented by many repeat customers, which tells alot. I will continue to be a patron of this shop!

Yelp
Fresh breads. They slice to your taste. I like the 1.5m. Excellent and price great. Pastries not that good and pricey for small sizes. Yup pies are very expensive. Lots of parking as they share the Times lot. 2 handicap up front too. I prefer Paris Baguette way way more , better prices, better tasting breads but parking is a a nightmare during a week day.

Yelp
Great bakery ! A bakery created from love by the former workers at Saint Germain Bakery. Excellent service, huge selection of bread, pastry, pie, and cake. My favorites are any of the sandwich breads which they can cut to order, and the delicious bacon epi. You must pick up a bag of their award winning palm leafs! Overall, 10 out of 10!

Yelp
Located next to Times supermarket, this Japanese bake shop has been around for sometimes. They bake fresh bread and other pastry daily. The moment your walked in, you can feel this is a specialty bake shop. Staffs are friendly and helpful. We love their bread, it is about $6 each, but some others item can be pretty expensive. For example, the butter rolls that we purchased, it is $10 for six small rolls! When we not buying bread at Costco or Sam's club, this is our go to place for fresh bread.

Yelp
I hardly ever find myself shopping at times during normal hours to see that epi-ya is open. I'm usually here pretty late at night after I finish work. But on one lucky day I stopped to shop at times and thought about getting some pastries and a baguette while I was here. How serendipitous. When I came in, there was only one other customer, but by the time I left, there were like 10 others. It's kind of a smaller store, but it's packed with things to buy. They keep it pretty clean and offer tongs and trays to lower the passing of germs from and between customers. They offer some packaged things like palm leaves and French fruit preserves. I picked up some melon pan and matcha melon pan. When I got to the register, I also got a baguette. It seems like a lot of people buy sliced bread from here and it's cool that they offer different widths for the slices. I'd come back and try some of the other pastries and breads. We ate the baguette so quickly. The melon pan was also light and sweet, but not too sweet. I can't believe I've never been here, it's a cute place!

Yelp
Picked up 2 finger sandwiches from Epi-ya, a half loaf if #2 sliced bread a custard danish, and a cinnamon roll. Counter staff was helpful and friendly...service was quick and efficient. Cute little bakery with nice selection of pastries, pies, and bread. Love the finger sandwiches mix of cheese, egg and ham sandwiches on japanese crust-less bread. So soft and and delicious. Perfect for a quick light bite. Typical bakery with fantastic smell of baking bread. Who can resist that.

Yelp
I had high expectations given the glowing reviews but I found everything to be ok. I wanted to be wowed and my mind blown. We tried least 5 items too. Was just ok.

Yelp
Since my favorite sour dough baker stopped manning a booth at the Saturday Kakaako Farmers Markets, I've been on the search for a good loaf of crusty French bread. The Epi-ya Boulangerie & Patisserie on Beretainia Avenue near Times best fits that bill! Formed by former workers of Dee-lite/St. Germain bakeries after they closed down, they have continued the tradition of offering French-style sweet & savory Japanese baked goods. To shop, pick up a tray and tongs, load your tray with your desired items, and take it up to the counter for payment and packaging. My favorites are: fruit danishes, savory rolls such as the ham or sausage, and of course the french baguettes- especially the wild starter baguette! I've also picked up their pies for family dinner, especially the custard! All in all, their prices are pretty reasonable, although with enough items they can get pretty pricey. Definitely someplace to repeat and recommend! Don't you deserve some tasty, crunchy, French bread today?

Yelp
Very clean and great selection. Good items. Price is not too reasonable. Can't afford to buy from this bakery too often. Service is good and efficient! B

Yelp
I started with the family bread, then melon pan and chocolate melon pan. What got me hooked is their curry pan - crispy, soft with a good amount of curry. The curry is not greasy, and neither is the outside. Air fryer helps with that extra one. Eating it nice and hot is the best way to enjoy. Oh, I just want to get one now! I have tried a couple of other places, but it's just not the same. If you like curry pan, it's a great way to curb your appetite or get two for lunch. I would have pics if we didn't eat them so quickly!

Yelp
Cute little Japanese bakery next to times. I seen someone post on Instagram their pastries and wanted to give it a try. There are many pastry options and lots of bread selection. I couldn't decide and only got a blueberry custard and a small apple cinnamon bread. The cinnamon bread was $6 and the custard must've been $3, there was no sign in front of it. The custard was very delicious and eggy but the blueberry tasted like jam, didn't taste homemade. The apple cinnamon bread actually didn't have much cinnamon flavor at all or apple. I was sadly disappointed. The price point is higher than average for a Japanese bakery, so I may not return here since the two items didn't wow me. Maybe the two things I got weren't the best and maybe other items are better.

Yelp
I purchased Butter Top and asked them to slice it and got a black long hair in between the bread. So gross and unfortunate;;;

Yelp
I was so excited to try this spot but I wasn't really impressed with their bread. Harder on the outside than Brug and doesn't have the soft chewiness of the bread like how I like it. Small shop with a lot of variety. Yelpers say the custard pie is good so maybe I'll give that a try next time.

Yelp
Excellent pastries and breads!! Reminds me of the bakeries in Japan. The shio-butter croissants are my favorite but you have to go early to get them!

Yelp
"Oh, I travel - A sort of licensed troubleshooter." - James Bond Wonderful Japanese style bakery I've been meaning to come to since first opening a few years back. Of course traveling to and fro Cali & Hawaii & Europe always limits my time but this time around I had time! Epi-Ya Boulangerie & Patisserie is located near Times Supermarket on Beretania so it's easy to find and parking is plenty! Another plus is Epi-Ya opens everyday at 6am (closed on Tues) so bonus for early birds like me working remotely here on European time. In fact, a routine I found perfect was picking up pastries from Epi-Ya and enjoying with coffee at one of my fave work cafés as I catch-up with editing and zoom calls overseas. Mr. International is in the 'Āina:D It's 6:00am and I enter to always a warm greeting. Lots of selection to choose which means the bakers must be in by 4:00am? I've got the following: Double Aribiki Roll $4.70, Pumpkin Pie $2.75, Fuji Apple Pie $4.75, Cream Raisin Danish $3.10, Ham Roll $3.05. I've come with a friend a couple times and she loves their Danishes. For me, my fave is the Fuji Apple Pie! Wow! I recommend Epi-Ya Boulangerie & Patisserie to all pastry lovers! It's high quality and prices on point! I'll be back to pickup other baked goodies for my remote work in London. Chatting with friends in a British accent while nibbling on delicious pastries is love! Ta!

Yelp
Great variety of products but poor execution. The general retail area was untidy and messy for a busy bakery!

Yelp
Love that they moved into the old St. Germain location on Beretania St. Close to home. Bakery is small and cannot accommodate a lot of people at once. Today's haul included croissants, ham rolls, double arabiki, chocolate croissant, butterflake roll and a custard pie. Of course I didn't eat them all at once. I had a ham roll and a plain croissant. Both were wonderful. The croissant was so light and flaky outside and soft and fluffy inside and had a nice buttery flavor. The ham roll was great with ham in every bite. I could use a little more mayo or a lot, and another slice of onion, but I'm not complaining. The butterflake roll was nice how I could pull sections off and eat. It didn't take long to inhale it, though. So soft and buttery tasty. Double Arabiki is good as I love Arabiki. Rolled up in a soft blanket of doughy goodness, who could ask for anything more? The custard pie was great. I hadn't had custard pie in ages and each bite was divine. A little on the sweeter side, this one was. Great crust! Unfortunately tomorrow is Tuesday and they are closed, so I have to wait until Wednesday to get my next fix.

Yelp
My old favorite Japanese bakery was Okayama in Ward, but ever since I found Epi-Ya, I've been coming here a lot more! This little shop always is bustling, with tons of customers, which means tons of turnover of fresh baked bread and pastry. My favorite pastry is their shio butter croissant- super flaky with the right amount of salt. Their family bread is the perfect sandwich / toast bread for the week. Try any of their treats, they're all delicious, fresh, and made with love.

Yelp
I went to Epi-Ya and Paris Baguette on the same day. There's no comparison. Epi-Ya has twice the selection, and better looking bakery items than Paris Baguette. They also have phenomenal bread, something I don't think Paris Baguette has. It was a bit crazy. Store was empty when I went in and 2 minutes later there was practically a line outside the door. The thick sliced Japanese bread makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches. But everything in here looks absolutely delicious and is reasonably priced. Parking is also extremely easy being on King St and sharing a parking lot with Times.

Yelp
Need some bake goodies? Or even just freshly made bread? Come to Epi-Ya on Beretania across the TImes Supermarket. This is the former St. Germaine's and I'm glad that these owners took over. Sorry if you're looking for donuts, this place doesn't really make donuts. Though this neighborhood needed a bakery and somplace with parking and decent pricing. Chinatown just isn't that convenient when you're on the go, and sometimes not worth the cost of parking plus your goodies. I'm most thankful for their fairly price and delicious pies. Our family was heartbroken when Delite and St. Germaine's Bakeries closed, for all our holiday pies came from these places and more importantly the pumpkin pie. After those closures, we tried those "warehouse" pies and those were the best priced, BUT we're pretty spoiled when we find the middle of the pies soggy. Enter sad emoji... The only place that was really what we wanted before Epi-ya came along was a shop in Chinatown that started with an "L." Parking, paying and picking up from this spot is a definite chore during the holidays, and having the choice now to drive-in and park in Epi-ya's shared, free parking lot is a real treat. I don't mind standing in line at a shop, as long as I don't have to worry about getting my ride towed or paying for parking while I wait. They do sell more than just pies and fresh loaves of bread. They also have cookies, breaded goodies, and sandwiches. These are good sandwiches too, and I especially like the egg salad ones. Sometimes, I come for a slice of custard or pumpkin pie when I feel like treating myself after a hard day's workout. Also, they have sweet and savory bread goodies like the 'B' place in Ala Moana and drinks to complete a meal. So, if you're in the area and need breaded, baked goodies, come to Epi-ya! Till my next visit, Grind On! Pau!

Yelp
Wonderful local bakery for baguettes and family bread. Fresh everyday. No preservatives. Our family loves.
