25 Places Where Planes Are Right at Home on the Ground

"This decommissioned DC-7 is on display at the Epic Flight Academy in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. From 1953 to 1958 the Douglas Aircraft Company built DC-7 planes at the behest of American Airlines. They wanted a passenger plane that could fly nonstop coast-to-coast in 8 hours. This was in response to a mandate that flight crews were restricted to only working eight hours in-flight within a 24 hour period. Douglas delivered. About 25 planes were ordered by American Airlines, and in May 1953 the first prototype took to the air. The Douglas Aircraft Company went on to construct other DC modeled aircraft, such as the DC-7B and DC-7C, the latter of which was built for overseas travel. Few of these planes remain today—less than 400 were built by Douglas. This aviation relic is accessible to the public for anyone wanting to venture down aviation’s memory lane." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

I am a current student at Epic Flight Academy on the maintenance side. I am incredibly disappointed in this school. I'm appalled as to how the instructors behave and their blatant disrespect towards students and amongst themselves. My first teacher was an ignorant and mean bully towards the students and constantly got things wrong from the book. He is unprofessional and has no business being a teacher. When i brought this to the attention of school, nothing was done about it. Now, Airframe teacher was a little better personality wise, but sadly he was still not a good teacher. He has no mentorship abilities and was never around to explain the projects. He also had a tendency to be inappropriate with his comments. The projects given out were a joke and basically a participation grade. The facility is lacking in equipment and project boards. Third teacher was supposed to teach us about inspections and waste water. He actually told us he doesn't follow the curriculum and was on his own program. We watched a lot of videos instead of learning from him. He added a public speaking project, which frankly has no point being in a maintenance course. What does that have to do with inspections? Time filler instead of actually teaching? On top of not following the curriculum, the graphic stories he would tell about accidents he has seen were wildly inappropriate, and he made the women in the class uncomfortable. He said some things that could be sexual harassment. My class has been alienated from day one, and most of us are just going through the motions at this point. I'm not even through with the school, and I have regretted coming here. Now, we have a teacher who seems to be a nice old man, but the poor guy can't hear anything, so we have to scream at him for him to understand us. This school is falling apart, and they even had the gall to open another school in another state. I definitely do not recommend going through this maintenance program. The teachers have not been teachers. They have been racist, sexist, and unremarkable as professionals in the industry. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't do their research before coming here.

A true academy of flight, Epic offers anyone with the ambition to be a pilot the partnership and support necessary to turn those dreams into a reality. The well-rounded approach to instructing & training is what I think sets it apart from other options. It’s the place I’ve trusted to help me chase down a dream and I couldn’t be happier to be here.

I spent 7 months at Epic and graduated from the Commercial pilot program in May 2020.I had a great time at Epic and highly encourage prospective students to inquire for more information and if possible, schedule to visit the campus! There are lots of info on the internet for so many schools in the area, but in the end, it was the visit that made me decided to come to Epic. What really sets Epic apart? It's the people! The instructors are genuinely enthusiastic about the school and passionate about what they do. They are very proud and happy to be part of the Epic family. The same transpires to the management and administrative staff. They know how to make sure my training went smoothly and are very supportive with non-training related matters. In the end, you learn more when you are surrounded with people with positive energy and vibe. As for the hardware, the planes are very new and well maintained. I never had any issue with them. The maintenance is ran professionally. Overall, they are authorized Cessna service center. There's a nice library with instructor on duty if you need any help, a simulator and G1000 panel for practice.

I came to epic in January of 2021. I had been in talks with their awesome recruiter Haley for about 8 months prior to coming and honestly I wanna say that I didn’t feel pressured or trying to be swindled into coming or anything. She helped answer every single one of my questions, made the process easy, and coached me through the loan process. Nothing but professionalism. I did my private pilot training in 4 months starting from zero experience. I have not a SINGLE bad thing to say about my training experience, ground school, managment, or course leaders. I did my instrument training here as well which was very structured and a lot of fun. Epic has amazing instructors that will try their absolute hardest to accommodate for every type of student. The knowledge I’ve learned here is so valuable and I’m very thankful for what they’ve done for me. Mo And TJ and Andrew are very respectful, understanding, and very seasoned pilots that will work with any student to overcome a problem they have. My only con to say is that cancelling activities can sometimes be a pain and scheduling is all over the place occasionally but that’s to be expected from an operation as large as epic. Epic is the best flight school around central Florida and I couldn’t recommend it enough

I attended another flight school before I came to Epic. There I received my private pilot certificate. However, I wasn't happy at that school. I looked around but as soon as I contacted Epic I could tell this school was different. Epic has the most professional employees I have ever seen in a flight school. I was able to get my instrument, commercial, commercial multi add on, and my CFI certificate in less than eight months. The number one thing that sold me on Epic over other flight schools was the emphasis on safety. When asking about their maintenance on their aircraft they would always say the same thing. If something breaks they don't fix it, they replace it. I saw this first hand when they had an alternator failure in flight. When we landed I got a chance to talk to maintenance and asked them what they were going to do to fix it. Without even hesitating they immediately said "well, we'll replace the whole alternator." As we were talking I asked him why they would not just repair the alternator instead of spending money on a whole new component. He told me the owner of Epic would rather spend a little more money replacing all inoperative components with brand new pieces. He does this because he wants to have the safest flight school possible. Epic is the best school I have ever attended, and believe they are one of the best in the country if not the world for learning how to fly. Aviation is expensive in general but Epic is able to give you some of the newest C-172's / PA-44-180's with the best avionics (G1000) installed in them. I will encourage any and all of my students in the future who want to pursue aviation to study at Epic Flight Academy.

As an instructor at Epic, I have nothing but good things to say. The fleet is large enough to allow students to fly every day without issue all while still being held to a high maintenance standard. The safety standard is never compromised despite the number of students. Florida in general is the best place to flight train, due to the weather, and Epic offers daily flying for students which quickly leads them towards their aviation goals. I’ve seen truly excellent pilots as a product of Epic’s training because of this. Management is available for advice and I have felt really supported in any issues I have faced as a newer instructor. I’ve worked closely with TJ and he has helped guide me to better help my students with his advice. If you want to get great flight training, in safe planes and have fun while doing it, Epic is the place to be!

After doing a long and detailed research on the internet looking for flight Schools I had noticed that Epic Flight Academy had great reviews and since day one I went out to check the school out I had a great experience. I met my recruiter Haley since day one when I was invited for a tour and she went above and beyond to explain to me the program and tour me around the school. This for me since the beginning was a great experience because I had started my flight training at a different school where I did not have the best of the experiences so this welcoming and showing that they cared about there students since day one was already a great deal. As I decided to enroll and went thru my Flight training the instructors always did their best to give me the best flight lessons and putting their best effort and most important being efficient not making me waste my money and time. From Private to Multi Engine I was always provided with great ground Instructing, Oral Briefings and flight lessons my instructors always made sure to provide me with the information necessary to be prepared for check ride. I encountered great instructors that always encouraged to do the best.. Colton, Mo, Sandoval, Shropshire, Bangs, Mr Coltor Sharp, Adam, Seth, Chad, Cory just to mention a few of them which I truly appreciate all the help given while in training. I always had the back up of someone to help me out at Epic. Im so happy and grateful I met my Recruiter Haley which I had mentioned since the beginning she helped me out so so much till my last day I was at EPIC .. The staff in general is just pretty awesome and I have great memories from everyone at Epic. I would recommend 100% Epic flight academy when thinking about doing your flight training. THANKS EPIC !!!

BUYER BEWARE… this school will make your flight skills beyond epic. Epic Flight Academy has a variety of training aids and facilities, and their planes are maintained to perfection to provide the greasiest of landings. The school has an outstanding set of training programs ready to accommodate any students’ needs. Be it the course leaders, instructors, or other students, every individual at Epic wants to see you succeed. In my time here, course leaders like TJ Hewitt have always been there to keep me on the center line and provide help when needed. And anytime I feel behind, I can always count on people like Mason Smallwood to tutor me back up to snuff. But my favorite thing about Epic has got to be the flight instructors. They strive for professionalism and efficiency above all else, not wasting a second of your time. I don’t think I’ve even had a college professor as dedicated to my success as my instructor Gavin Morales has been. I couldn’t appreciate all the people I’ve met here more. It’s honestly amazing. If being a pilot is on your mind, this is definitely the place to be. Come join the epic family :)
