Lovely staff, but shockingly poor facilities for babies and disabled guests
We visited Epoque for afternoon tea (not our first visit) and the service from the staff was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by a complete lack of basic facilities.
We were visiting with our newborn baby, who needed to be changed while we were there. When I asked where the baby changing facilities were, I was met with a puzzled look and told there were none, only the women’s bathroom.
When I went to the bathroom, it was extremely small and dimly lit, with nowhere at all to safely lay a baby down. On the way there I had noticed a disabled toilet, but the door was locked. When I asked if I could use it to change the baby, I was told it wasn’t possible because the disabled toilet was being used as a storage cupboard.
This left me with little choice but to change my newborn on the bathroom floor, which was far from hygienic and incredibly impractical given how small the space was. It was simply luck that nobody else came in at the time, as there would have been no room.
For a hotel of this standard, it’s disappointing that there are no baby-changing facilities and that the disabled toilet is unavailable to guests because it’s being used for storage. Accessible facilities are not a luxury — they are basic amenities that many guests rely on.
Sadly, this seems to be a wider issue in Bucharest, but it was particularly surprising in a venue of this calibre.
A nice place in many respects, but unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone visiting with a baby or who requires accessible facilities.
