Three types of vacations to take in the Maldives - SilverKris

"Refurbished and family-friendly, this resort at the lower tip of Addu Atoll features 78 spacious bungalows that open onto courtyard gardens, giving children room to roam while offering varied activities for guests of all ages. Offerings include bespoke diving and canoe trips, water-skiing, banana-boat rides, snorkelling around vibrant coral reefs, and excursions to explore the mangroves and wildlife of the nearby nature park. Its connection to other local islands via the Addu Link Road causeway also makes it easy to take bicycle trips to neighbouring villages for a cultural change of pace, and the property includes leisure amenities such as an outdoor pool where guests can relax with a cocktail." - Creative Solutions

An island alternative in the Maldives - SilverKris

"Housed in former military barracks with tin roofs and white-washed walls, this family-friendly resort delivers a homely, Anglo-Maldivian experience on powdery beaches fringed by swaying palms. Reworked from naval housing, it prioritizes authenticity and relaxed seaside comfort over ostentatious luxury, letting guests appreciate the island's history while enjoying beachside amenities." - Joe Worthington

We booked all inclusive option & stayed 12 days in Nov 2025 - mainly for the snorkelling.|Gan island is a 1hr 20min flight from Male - if they don't stop at another island en route. We arrived in Male & waited 4 hrs for the flight to Gan, speedboat not an option.|Rooms very basic but clean, tv tiny! Water, instant tea, coffee & coffee creamer in room|Important to note that despite the hotel info to the contrary you are told on arrival that wifi is only available in the reception/bar/restaurant. |Food is very mediocre, chicken every day, 3 times a day!|All inclusive is breakfast, lunch, high tea & dinner. Chicken curry, veg curry, pasta, selection of bread & some fruit - it didn't vary much day to day. High tea is tea/coffee and biscuits, occasionally a samosa savoury. No yogurt at breakfast, no pastries and no ice cream. Tea & coffee only allowed at breakfast & high tea - |we're English and needed a lot more cups of tea!||Pool lovely & snorkelling off the beach is good. No pool or beach service & pool bar never manned during our stay.||All inclusive cocktails very poor, paid for ones lovely!||So many chickens, cockerels and cats roaming the place - 4am crowing was a rude awakening every single day!||Trips - snorkelling good (free), dolphins (paid for) good, island hopping (paid for) awful! Boat trip to visit 1 small souvenir shop, 1 coffee shop and walked in the midday sun for ages before back on the boat for snorkelling and lunch (lunch surprisingly good) Boat crew are great.|You MUST have your own snorkelling gear including fins - reception won't allow you on the boat otherwise. It can be hired from the dive shop - don't know how good or how much as luckily we'd taken ours.|Cycles can be taken as part of the AI package, we biked to a cafe for coffee and to watch the boats bring in fish at the harbour.||Although we enjoyed the peace & quiet (apart from the chickens) and the snorkelling we wouldn't go back.

Just returned from a 9-night all inclusive stay at Equator Village. Once you acclimatise and pull round from your outbound treck (our treck was 26-hrs and 4-flights) you can begin to relax / enjoy your surroundings.|Hotel is on an ex RAF base but the layout etc is good / easy to find your way round. Rooms are a good size with good amenities (one slight criticism would be a lack of wardrobe space). Restaurant - great service / meals - decent choice and good quality (the bolognese and dhal curry was tremendous). Drinks - all beers on offer were good quality.....A.I. cocktails were decent and if you want a change you can buy a large range at a reasonable price (another slight criticism would be during our stay they did not have any tomato juice for a Bloody Mary which I like starting the day with). All bar staff were very friendly / chatty / professional (Harry was the one that stood out). One slight criticism would be the pool bar was only open on 2-occasions during our stay.|The hotel offers excursions......some free on A.I. package and some you had to pay a small price (dolphin trip was great value at only approx £21 )|The cats, kittens and chickens were a nice distraction and didn't get in the way at all......our favourite was a little white / ginger kitten that had such a needy meow....he was our little furry holiday buddy.|The hotel has a large range of nationalities, all of which were friendly. Big shout out to Stella, Ariane and Angie from Germany....it was great to spend some good times and have a few laughs with you all....Prost !|All things considered a great hotel with fantastic staff, good food and drinks and great company. A great vacation !

I spent 4 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed my time. My rooms are very clean, with great A/C. All the staff were friendly and the water access (pool and beach) were great. There's loads of places to sit/lie and relax and the vibe is super chilled. There was entertainment 3 out of the 4 nights I was there too. I'd happily stay again! |

The hotel itself is spacious and quite comfortable. Everything was exceptionally clean, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the water pressure in the rooms was noticeably low, and the Internet was a major disappointment. It barely worked in the public areas and was nearly impossible to connect to from the rooms. We booked a snorkeling excursion that was just okay, but the best snorkeling experience by far was at Addu Park. Due to ongoing reclamation in the area, the water has become murky and rough, which made the overall experience less enjoyable than expected. There was also some confusion around the difference between "all inclusive" and "full board," which could have been better explained. On a positive note, the staff were genuinely friendly. One of the cooks stood out in particular. He clearly takes pride in the local cuisine and runs the local food section daily. That part of the buffet was consistently the best. The rest of the food was fine, but not memorable. Drinks were another weak point. The alcohol served was very low quality and not something I’d recommend. We asked for a late checkout and were kindly given until 2 PM, which was a nice gesture. However, there was a hiccup during checkout. The staff initially said I had paid through Booking.com, but I hadn’t. It turned out the person assisting me was new. Thankfully, I asked for a receipt before heading to the airport and caught the mistake in time. Across the street, there’s a small souvenir shop run by a kind gentleman. He rents snorkeling gear and sells decent souvenirs, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, it was a good stay with several highlights, but there are definitely areas that need improvement.

I have just spent a week in his resort on a dive trip and found it quite a surprise, rooms were comfortable with great aircon.. setting is wonderful and very relaxed, and staff were all very helpful. The meals are Buffet style with great selection for all.. a delightful pool and great bar service. Was a great stay! Thanks.

Great little hotel with friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble. Food good, all areas clean and sleep quality was great. Would love to come back here.

We were one of only three sets of guests staying at this large resort. It's the beginning of the wet season and start of European summer so patronage is low at this time of year. |We were upgraded to a spacious beachside bungalow/room.|It was reasonably clean and had all the basics one would expect. Easy to access power outlets were lacking though.|The pool area was superb and staff were super friendly. Overall, parts of the resort and garden looked a bit rundown but we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. This resort is also the only place on Gan Island that serves alcohol.

Was a little concerned as this hotel is rated 3 stars. I have had a few bad experiences staying at 3 star hotels and normally go for 4 stars.|I would definitely rate this hotel with 4 stars, the staff were very friendly and the chef's were exceptional. Choice of food was very good, only downfall in my opinion was the deserts (same every day), great if your a fruit lover. Pool and surrounding areas clean and not overcrowded. Rooms clean and comfortable, well stocked with water, coffee, tea etc, at no additional charge.|My only criticism with regards to the rooms are, they are a bit dated but the do have everything you need for a lovely stay.||Just like to say a big thank you to all the staff, who made me feel very comfortable as a solo traveller and providing a great service.||Highly recommend this hotel.
