Eremo della Giubiliana (Ragusa Ibla, Sicily) 10 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s not all farm houses and olive groves. Near the south coast of Sicily, housed in a medieval-era convent once occupied by the Knights of Malta, lies the Eremo della Giubiliana, a remarkably posh boutique hotel hidden away within an imposing fortified exterior. These stone walls still look up to the task of repelling an invading force, but inside it’s elegant and sophisticated in a way that one doesn’t often expect from rustic, rugged Sicily." - Tablet Hotels

Eremo della Giubiliana was one of the most memorable places I’ve ever stayed. A peaceful, countryside retreat with a beautifully preserved medieval feel. The building had so much character, and every detail felt thoughtful and authentic. The food was incredible—fresh, local, and full of flavor. I still remember them carving a big block of chocolate right at the table. Quiet luxury at its finest.

The hotel claims to be 5 star - it is not. Looking at their website they look as though they have some nice rooms but they also have some awful ones. We booked from Loveholidays website. The room we picked showed a beautiful large light room with bifold doors with a patio outside with a dining table (a picture of the room we booked is attached). Upon our return from holiday and complaining to Loveholidays the following day the pictures on their website of this room suddenly disappeared. Unfortunately the room provided to us (room15) was a tiny, dark airless DUMP - the window was more of a small hatch, you had to have the electric light on during the day . Upon complaining we were told that the booking was for a Superior Room with garden view and that was what we had been given. In the bedroom there was no wardrobe or chest of drawers (there was no space for them). There was no power point to charge your mobile phone- although there was one by the bathroom basin if you wished to chance being electrocuted. The garden view was a grubby courtyard complete with two open manholes . They turn the lights out at night. Upon being shown to our room for the first time in the early hours I nearly fell into one of these holes - about 40cm square and about 70 cm deep just waiting to break your leg or fracture your pelvis.|The food was not good - if you were expecting fish in a beautiful wine sauce or a piece of chicken/lamb/pork in a rich sauce forget it. We dreaded the meals. We have had holidays all over Italy and never have had such poor food.|The hotel certainly has a suit of armour in the hallway but their pictures of bikes for rent must have been taken 14 years ago - they are now just a load of rusting metal fit for the skip.|Loveholidays have clearly mis-sold me by accident or design I do not know. |Would you trust Loveholidays to provide the holiday you booked ? - I never will again

An amazing and unique property; our HUGE room was built in 1536, and was fantastic. Beautifully laid out, great food options and with one exception superb, attentive service. We had massages which were very good, and during our stay didn't leave the property. It's a short drive to Ragusa, which we didn't find that compelling. But this was easily one of the most unique and special places we've stayed with in half of decade of luxury travel. ||The one caveat: We are youngish seniors in great shape, but my wife tripped and fell while descending the marble stairs onto the marble floor, while headed to the downstairs dining room. The floors are marble throughout, and there are no handrails on any of the stairs--so be very careful. Happily my wife was fine, and the hotel very attentive afterward. ||Overall, a truly unique place, highly recommended.

The house is very beautiful and the gardens amazing. Staff is very attentive and polite. The room was small, specially the bathroom. There was really no big space to store the clothes. The swimming pool water was very cold. I wouldn't consider this a 5 star luxury due to the rooms and bathroom being so small. Breakfast has plenty of choice but overall was a great experience.

We originally booked two nights at this hotel however we didnt like our early hotel / destination too much so added another night and so glad we did.||Check in was easy and they also upgraded our room for us.||Room was good, ended up being large with comfortable bed.||Bathroom was good however bath products could have been a bit better.||The pool area is really relaxing and suggest you spend a day there.||The owner of the hotel has a golden retriever (Max) so he is often laying around the hotel which gives it a nice relaxing vibe.||Breakfast was good but did have better in Sicily.||We had dinner at the hotel every nice and the set up outside in the garden was just lovely. The staff were all really friendly and welcoming. The food at dinner was really good, I had the steak a few times which I enjoyed.||Ragusa city seems like a strange place, the buildings and architecture are not pleasant on the eye. The city is about a 15-20 minute drive from the hotel||Other reviewers mentioned the american tour groups, there was one on our last night but was not a problem at all.

We stayed here 2 nights on a Sicily tour. We had a wonderful room - well a suite actually, with a truly unique (modernized) bathroom and a small terrace with a table outside. I should mention that other members of the tour group reported small rooms, so there might be some variability. As part of our tour we had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant (all excellent) and got to explore the location with the owner and hear it’s amazing history. The grounds were beautiful, the service was excellent, and the whole experience was outstanding. We only wish we had been able to spend more time there.

This is an ancient building from 1500s in a farming area. Yes beautifully restored by the owner - if you go insist he gives you a tour! Restaurant is excellent but avoid the|special pork chops( does not work) whereas the pasta and beef dishes are very succulent. Wine prices are way below average for quality. A key point for physically impaired travellers - check access and room configurations in advance

An elegant and beautifully maintained historical property with added bonus of architectural features spanning Greek antiquity, the Knights Templar, through feudal Sicily. These, the antiques dotting the common spaces, the beautiful stone work round the property and the landscaped gardens made our stay a unique and memorable experience. ||I should not forget to mention the attentive staff and the generous breakfast buffets and dinners featuring locally sourced cheeses, salamis, fruit, olive oils and wines. ||From the Eremo della Giubiliana, we found it easy to reach the major tourist attractions of southeast Sicily including Noto and Siracuse in our car.
