This place was perfect. Halfway point for us travelling to th South. The building is beautiful and a visit to the church next-door is a must. The french breakfast was the tastiest croissant nature, ever and the owners were so welcoming and helpful. Fanny's boulangerie across the road do the most amazing pastries. David, Virginne and lily, I wish you all many happy years and we may see you again

We chose this small chambre d'hote because we like to stay in unusual places. The Ermitage fits the bill as it is within a very old building next to a beautiful old church. It even has a vine 'garden museum' attached which guests can access after the public have gone home. We liked the place very much and found the owners very pleasant and helpful. There is WiFi available and although breakfast is limited the owners have now supplemented the bread and jam with a slice of the biggest croissant I have ever seen! ||I think it's important to remember that Chambre d'hotes are not hotels and that you are really being invited into someone's home. Some offer an amazing spread for breakfast, others not. This place has real character and lovely owners who helped us to have a very enjoyable stay.

Very welcome arrival after long drive. Interesting building and surroundings, very sympathetically decorated - charming. Dinner was a pleasure - the cheese board exceptional. We went the next day and bought all the cheeses to take with us on our journey south (with help from the owner) Breakfast was also good with the largest croissant ( a local speciality) we had ever seen. So much nicer to stay somewhere like this than a soulless chain.

Positive: We loved the setting and the room, which was very big and classically decorated for a family of 4. The gardens and view around the property were beautiful.. Negative: We arrived when the reception was filled with all sorts of arty people and we stood around for quite a while until we finally got pointed out that we had to ring the doorbell. Very odd all that. We did not appreciate that there was absolutely no WiFi at all, as we did have to catch up on a bit of work every day, even though it said that there was. Something to do with the thunderstorm, which we did not believe, as when the weather cleared, there was still nothing. We also asked for a recommendation for a restaurant with a bit more French traditional dishes and where told that there were none in the area and referred to a pizza restaurant down the road. On approaching the pizza place, we noticed the Restaurant Hotel Les Glycines, which we then also went to. We had a a wonderful evening with great service and traditional French food, no thanks to our hosts recommendation. The WiFi and restaurant lies were disappointing..

This was our first B&B in France. It has the lovely ambience of the converted monastery, the small grounds are great, as is the riverview. Rooms are clean, large with a good bathroom. Owner speaks English. There is no wifi. Breakfast was disappointing and very basic with only juice, tea/coffee, bread (no croissants!!?) and jam offered ... there is no dinner option. Be aware that Sunday and monday the local restaurants are mostly closed. Owners seemed keen to have guests leave asap after breakfast?. I think this B&B relies to much on the converted Monastery to attract clients and we now know (from experience) that there are much better B&B's in the area to stay at.

Coming back from Spain this summer, we decided to split up the trip in two. We ended up somewhere in the middle, ie Vieille-Brioude. This part of France is often overseen by the masses but we are glad we had decided to stop over here as it's quiet and beautiful.||The ermitage is a special place. If you're looking for tranquility, authenticity and personal contact, this is the place for you. The hosts are charming and will go a long way to make you feel at home. For example, there's no wifi in the building but I really needed to check out something quickly online and the host allowed me to use his own computer. Breakfast and dinner were great. Rooms are bathing in authenticity. ||In short, a great stopover for a long trip.

Chance stopover heading home UK after a month away. One of our best memories of places we stayed! Jean made us welcome despite our last minute arrival, made sure we found food late in the day, had a perfect nights sleep, perfect breakfast view, & Jean insisted we walked the grounds before left - what a treat. Will be back with the bikes.

Delightful, 18th C house on Church Square in old village close to Le Puy en Velay and 20 minutes from A75.||Beautiful old fashioned rooms with mod cons, wifi etc. Evening meal a pleasure shared with other guests with Mme presiding. Wine & conversation flow naturally; French at a reasonable level desirable or you will miss out.
