Mexican food and Tex Mex are so commonplace in the Houston, Texas area that most anyone is within minutes of at least one restaurant serving this type of food. I have my favorites, but I also have some restaurants that, while not at the top of my list, will certainly do in a pinch. A good example of the latter is Escalante’s Fine Tex Mex and Tequila on Westheimer road.
What you get at this Escalante’s location is a large size restaurant with cool art on the walls, a nice bar area, and a menu consisting of a wide assortment of salads, soups, appetizers, entrees, and more. You should have no problem finding a Tex Mex specialty to your liking. I usually go for an assortment, like the Tex Mex Dinner, which includes cheese enchiladas, a beef taco, rice, and beans. Other options are generally good and satisfying, too, like the fajitas or quesadillas.
The drink selection at Escalante’s is good, except for the beer. There are not enough craft options, not even local craft options. And as I recall, there is no draft beer at all, only bottles. It would be much better if they expanded the beer offerings to include at least a few craft beers, since beer generally goes very well with Mexican and Tex Mex food. If tequila is what you prefer, you should be more than satisfied at Escalante’s, since they serve a nice assortment of tequila and several margaritas.
Service at this Escalante’s restaurant is friendly and courteous. Parking isn’t an issue, either, as there is generally not a problem finding a free place to park in front of the restaurant As I said, the food is generally good, but not as fresh as I like and certainly not the best Mexican or Tex Mex in the area. That fact, coupled with the limited beer supply, add up to an average rating overall.
