I highly recommend this hotel. Room are big, clean, A/C blows very cold. and I always had ht water. wifi worked flawlessly. perfect location for 2 banks a block away.

Very good and affordable place to stay. Big rooms and the internet and facilities work fine. Staff are friendly and efficient The only negative thing is that they turn off the air conditioner in the afternoon and then you have to call them to turn it on again. Other than that, no issues and all good.

The place is great, it has a bar where you can drink any type of drink, they have a huge variety of alcoholic drinks, also they are not expencive. The restaurant food is great, even the own cooker brings it to your table and is very nice. The owner is a very funny guy that is always sitting at the bar and is open to every topic you want to discuss about, very friendly. ||About the rooms they are ok for the price, they have cable tv and free wifi everywhere. Great overall!

I like the restaurant/bar in the lobby were great... I actually like the stairs going to the top floor, it was good exercise. I also really liked all of the fish in the lobby! I also had some good conversation at the bar. Overall, I would definitely visit this hotel again. The hot water shower was not that hot but not many hotels actually have hot water so I was not surprised. Just there were some really cold evenings... and as a foreigner from a northern country, I am accustomed to hot water.

I stay in this apart-hotel every year with students and it's a great, affordable place. They treat you like family, and the rooms are spacious, clean, with TV/cable, and refrigerator. There are plenty restaurants around the area, and it's a very safe place to walk around. There is a big supermarket nearby, and the malecon/ocean front is also within walking distance. The staff and service is great (breakfast is pretty generous). They are friendly, they are always willing to help with errands, money exchange, phone calls, and other things. There is also cleaning service for your clothes. I highly recommend it for short and long stays. The guests are also from all different places, and you get to meet some interesting people.

This is our go to place to stay at when we are in the capital. Slightly less expensive when we booked through booking.com and the price was honored. Clean rooms (but no hot water). Exceptionally nice staff. A/c and ceiling fans work great. Cable tv works great, elevator works great. Great location as well walking distance to metro, mcdonald's, taco bell, krispy kreme, wendy's, little caesars, national supermarket and a pharmacy. We feel at home here!

Filth in the kitchen sink in their studio apartment, cockroaches around the floor everywhere, little black beetles inside the refrigerator, kitchen utensils used by the former resident and put back into the drawer dirty. Don't think of this as a habitation; think of it as a potential infection. I booked for a month online but left on the third day. Some old guy that has something to do with either management or ownership sure eat and wind at me like a baby for half an hour when I told him these facts. This is a hotel that is up to dominican standards, which are almost non existent. The staff is perfectly congenial and they try but the owners are liars cheats and frauds. For this type of hotel in Santo Domingo they charge a premium price. I spent almost all of 2011 living in my own apartment close to the same neighborhood. Before that I stayed in a very good hotels in Zona Colonial several times. I am very familiar with this city when it comes to being an American. All of the claims on Esmerelda's website are fraudulent. Night clerk, the owner or manager, and the foul tempered old guy all lied to me, saying that having the air conditioning not function during the day was normal for Santa Domingo. This is not true, and it is also not disclosed on their website. When I used email to reserve a room, they did not say that the air conditioning with only work at night. Frequent travelers know that we book apartments to be a second home and are going to spend more time in an apartment then we would in a hotel room. This place is a dump, it's trash and the owners do not deserve to get business from people with brains.
