On the Grid : Espace Pépin

"Artist Lysanne Pépin was originally using the space at the corner of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul as a combined studio and living space. When she began hanging her art by the window, passersby thought it to be a gallery, and came in inquiring about her pieces. Eventually, she also began displaying clothes, and Espace Pépin was born. Though the boutique does feature clothing made by local designers, the bulk of the collection comes from Europe, and features on-trend shoes, coats and even activewear. Pépin eventually turned her hand to home decor, and now runs a second space dedicated to that craft just down the street from her original boutique, complete with snack and coffee bar." - Shopify

Beautiful curated collection and amazing staff! Go grab your summer dress before it’s gone!😆

A gorgeous and aesthetically pleasing store, although not at all on the cheap side. The coffee shop is excellent — they get their baked goods from l’amour du pain — and staff are friendly. Good place to grab coffee and boost your insta game.

I love Espace Pepin and Maison Pepin. Espace Pepin always has something inspiring for my closet each season. Maison Pepin really brings that added touch to every aspect of home. The linen bedding, dishes, and I particularly love when the Christmas decorations arrive. I can’t wait!

I enjoy so much going into this absolutely divine shop. The art looks great, I want to buy everything. It gives me ideas for how things should look at my home. The people are friendly. Really worth it when in Old Montreal to stop at this shop.

Poor customer service, just hope you don’t have any issues with your purchases as they will not help you even though you spent $$$$. Very disappointing : ( I won’t be shopping there again.

Love the clothes and shoes here! They sell a few pieces from Scotch and Soda but the rest of the brands are unknown to me.

Yelp
Well curated shop with top brands that go from casual to work with ease! Prices are a bit steep but everything is top tier.

Yelp
tres belle sélection d'objets et déco,mais le service est nul et les vendeuses (françaises) très arrogantes A vos risques et périls

Yelp
This boutique has amazing variety and was very dangerous to stumble into. The shop is on the smaller side but there is a big selection of shoes in addition to a variety of clothes from different brands. It's on the pricey side but everything we looked (even the basics) had a unique twist and seemed to be excellent quality. The nice thing was that there were Montreal based brands available so the pieces weren't items you could just get anywhere. This reminded me of a smaller version of the Tannery on Boylston Street in Boston. In the back corner of the shop there was also a selection of 60% off shoes which was a nice surprise. I got a pair of black pony hair flats for $62. I'm not a big shopper at all (I order almost everything online and usually don't like browsing in stores) but I could've spent at least another hour in here. I ultimately bought a dress by a Montreal designer, a cute sweater, and the flats and headed back across the street since our reservation at Olive and Gourmando across the street was called. Definitely check this boutique out- if you're looking for a few unique, good quality, pieces you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
The place: Located on St. Paul, in the heart of the Old Port. If you're coming via subway, you can get off at Place d'Armes or Square Victoria. They're both about the same distance to the store if you're walking (Square Victoria may be a few minutes longer). Street parking is available [metered] but good luck finding a spot. There are a few car parks scattered about but they'll rip you off. On a nice day, it's an easy walk from the downtown core. The place: This shop is located in an old house and has maintained some of its vintage charm, with wood floors and high ceilings. The clothing is scattered throughout the store and while you have room to move around, don't make any sudden movements or you may hit the person walking behind you. The goods: Clothes - mostly womens'. They carry some local designers, which is great, as well as other high-end designers that I know nothing about because you know, I shop at Banana Republic. Anyway, I picked up a pair of Italian leather mittens that are like BUTTER for 60% off. You'll find some footwear, jackets/blazers, dresses, tops etc. They don't carry items in bulk so if you come across something that you like, best jump on it while you can. Service: OK. We were greeted by a friendly clerk when we walked in, and she advised us of their ongoing sale. On my end, I didn't get any service beyond that, but my friend tried on a few items. The clerk who was serving her was nice enough but she was absolutely trying to make a sale. She kept bringing clothes over and insisting that everything looked good when it most certainly did not. A bit much, I thought. Price point: Absolutely ridiculously overpriced, but hey - if you've got $600 to spend on a blazer, know yourself out.

Yelp
Espace Pepin lies somewhere at the intersection of art, design, and fashion. The eclectic boutique/gallery has an airy, lacy, romantic feel to it. Something about the space and its pure design makes me want to go with the flow and relax. I often walk by the shop and am inspired by their window displays, but I try to limit my actual visits only for the sake of my wallet. It has a little bit of everything: women's clothing, shoes, accessories, home décor items, furniture, and art. I've had my eye on one of the funky lamps designed by Montreal's BroLLte for ages. As well as unique designer clothing, they showcase original art by Lysanne Pepin and other items by local Quebec designers.

Yelp
Went shopping with Kelly while we were waiting for a table at lunch. Fantastic selection of women's clothes. Kelly bought a super-sexy pair of leggings there . Staff was great. Great style.

Yelp
I bought a pepper grinder from the Espace Pepin store while I was visiting Montreal and thought it was too cool. It was made from a tree branch. I got it home, and within a month the grinder seazed up. Long story short, I found out that they switched suppliers, and when I did a search, I found that the original designer and supplier (www.PepperMills.ca) has a legal battle going with Espace Pepin for copyright infringement, because they stole his idea and web information, and has someone else making them, poorly. I brought it back, complained, and they gave me a replacement, but the same thing happened. I threw it out. The design was so original, I bought one from the original designer PepperMills.ca, and it's incredible. Working perfectly, and has a 25 year guarantee, instead of Espace Pepin's 5 year. Will never shop there again.
