I often wonder what buttons will still work on a decommissioned Oberon-class S-22 submarine. With no staff or supervision, 20 reais gets you an afternoon with decades of Cold War paranoida and a cockpit of shiny buttons begging to be pressed. And I pressed all of them. Every. Single. One. Lovely gift shop, too.

Very good - incredible value for the equivalent of about £3! The submarine is superb, amazingly restored inside and with some small displays that include a little detail in English. The air conditioning inside the submarine was extremely impressive. Perhaps there could have been a little more info available in English, but the space is limited understandably. There are a few small 'holes' to get through within the submarine, but anybody who can go up / down stairs would be fine getting through. The displays inside the WW2 ship were more thorough in English and were very well put together. This ship again, was in superb condition and access to most areas of the ship on different levels was very surprising and impressive. Amazing views across the harbour, a 12 minute walk from the metro and even shorter from the VLT tram. We spent about 2 hours there in total, very reasonable prices at the cafe on site too, which has shaded seating available. Security on site and right next to other military establishments, so it all felt very safe.

Flipping brilliant. After so many disappointing experiences in Rio museums, this was knock-out brilliant. Well maintained interactive exhibits, friendly staff and the best bit? You get to go in an actual submarine. Really superb and great for children. Highly worth the small ticket price. Note that it's not the best museum for those with limited mobility, in particular the submarine requires navigation of steep stairs and bending through circular port doors. Definitely not a good museum for the physically disabled.

A beautiful place to visit. They allow access into the submarine, a retired warship and a naval helicopter. Ticket costs only 20 reals per person. You can complete this quest in about 45mins to 1 hour. The experience is so beautiful.

Very interesting place to visit with friends and family

Access is free on Tuesdays. It was not in our itinerary but we went there out of curiosity. You can enter the Naha Boat, the submarine and the Destroyer Bauru Ship.
