My 1 Week Costa Rica Road Trip Itinerary for 2025

"I relax at Playa Espadilla for its long stretch of sand right by town — it’s perfect for lounging with a book, offers easy access to eateries, and hosts numerous surf schools for lessons or board rentals." - Matthew Kepnes

Best beach experience ever. Kids had 3 hours of surfing lessons and loved it. The instructors where phenomenal. They cared for the kids and taught them well. They definitely personalized the whole experience. We got concierge service with beach chairs and umbrella. The drinks and food were phenomenal too. Absolutely recommend this place.

We had an amazing time at Playa Espadilla Norte in Quepos during our May visit. This stunning beach offered the perfect balance—waves that were exciting yet manageable, though it's important to stay vigilant as Costa Rican beaches can have powerful rip tides. The beach atmosphere was lively with local vendors offering fresh coconut drinks, horseback riding experiences, and handmade clothing. The vendors were respectful and moved on politely when we declined their services. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. We recommend bringing your own beach towel, though chairs and umbrellas are available to rent at reasonable prices. We lucked out with beautiful weather before the rainy season kicked in, making it a memorable beach day.

I really enjoyed this beach. You have some waves but nothing major. There are lifeguards on the sand. It is not very crowded and the vendors just keep walking if you say no Thank you. The water is warm and we felt safe leaving our bags and going into the ocean. Obviously dont take valuables to the beach. We did buy a sno cone from a street vendors amd it was very good. We decided to go back again since we enjoyed our day!

Good beach for free parking! Lots of beach space where you can pay for chairs or walk down and sit in the shade. Parking is free but you can buy drinks or food from vendors on the beach.

Great beach to watch the sunset. You can buy beer or drinks from one of the mercados right by the beach. If you want less people, go as far north as you get

Loved this beach! We got drinks from a vendor at the entrance of the beach and had a great early afternoon on the beach. There’s an LGBTQ beacon towards the middle of this beach and I wish I had more energy to check it out! Looks like they’re building a LGBTQ resort nearby. If you don’t have a car, I recommend going to the southern end of the beach more towards Manuel Antonio national park because this area is more for guests who are parking on the beach. The fumes from the trucks weren’t pleasant.

Beautiful beach. When visiting, park around the Igloo Beach Lodge. It’s free and there are no pushy parking attendants. There are some vendors walking around on the beach, but they peacefully continue when you decline.

Beautiful beach with rocks and a long shoreline. A lifeguard is also there as the rip currents can get bad. Lots of tide pools when it's low tide. Close to shops and restaurants and Manuel Antonio national park.
