From the welcome to the farewell my stay with my daughter could not have been better. Tyler and Suzann were wonderful hosts who directed us to activities and places to eat that were incredible and helped make our stay more memorable. Our room was clean and everything we could have needed for the beach were available to use. The location was central to everything we wanted within walking distance; restaurants, small bodega, beaches, and outdoor activities. Highly recommend!

Tyler and Suzann were exceptionally helpful and provided so much useful information. They're really among the most helpful hosts I've ever encountered. The hotel is easily walkable to everything on the Malecon and beautiful nearby beaches. The room was clean and had everything we needed. Beach towels, beach chairs, and a beach bag were provided. Roosters will make themselves known throughout the night, so be prepared for that. You may prefer to choose a room which faces the back of the property since upkeep isn't a strong point for some of their neighbors. I loved the welcoming committee of Pebbles, all the cats, and the friendly horse at the front door!

The Esperanza Inn was a perfect spot for us to stay at before our Bio Bay tour. Tyler was very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time on the island! The room was comfy and cozy with great air conditioning as well. Everything is Esperanza is closeby, and we walked to several different beaches in that area. They have lots of cute cats hanging around in the back, and even a pool which was very well maintained. This is the spot to be if you're planning to stay in Vieques!

Wound up not staying but the vibe and communication from the owners deserves a shout out because it was exceptional and prompt. Don't hesitate to contact them. If the stay is like their email vibe youre in for an amazing time.

We enjoyed our 6 night stay at the Esperanza Guesthouse in Vieques! Our hosts, Suzann and Tyler, were very friendly and accommodating! The guesthouse is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants and the excursion companies. I highly recommend when visiting Vieques! We had a great time! Clean rooms.

Tyler and Suzanne are great hosts. They make you feel at home & helped us with anything we needed to know about our stay. I love getting up in the morning and getting a fresh cup of coffee from the common area and lounging in the back yard with the cats and other guests. The dipping pool is refreshing at the end of the day, or to bring a book and relax on a chaise. It’s fun to watch for Fred the iguana (and others) who hang out there. Our room was clean and stocked with everything you could need including a rain umbrella, cooler and beach towels. Short walk to good restaurants, beach, bio bay tours & water sports rentals. This is my second stay at Esperanza Inn.

We only had 24 hours—and we’re already planning to come back. Our family of five (two parents, three teens) just spent one unforgettable night at Esperanza Inn, and we’re already dreaming about our return. If you’re heading to Vieques, do not make our mistake—24 hours is nowhere near enough time to soak in the magic of this island, especially when you’re staying somewhere this special. The inn is owned and run by Suzanne and Tyler, a warm and incredibly thoughtful couple who go above and beyond to make your trip meaningful. They ask what matters most to you on vacation—and then tailor every recommendation accordingly. From hidden beaches to dining tips to unforgettable experiences, every suggestion they gave us was gold. Listen to them. Seriously. They know. What made this stay so special? • The location: Just one block off the main strip in Esperanza—close to the beach, the restaurants, and the Malecón—but tucked away enough to feel peaceful and private. • The vibe: Welcoming, casual, and full of little comforts—snacks in the room, filtered water, comfy beds, AC, organic bath products, and morning coffee (7–11 and delicious). • The animals: Their sweet dog Pebble is a perfect mascot, and the wild horses everywhere made our kids light up with joy. We picked mangoes from the trees with the fruit picker hanging on the wall—yes, really. • The spaces: Each room is unique and beautifully appointed, and the common areas are perfect for relaxing—board games, a dipping pool, shaded hammocks, and cozy corners for families to reconnect. • The hosts: Tyler and Suzanne feel like friends by the end. They are true pros, and their love for this island shows in every detail. Tips from our too-short trip: • Stay longer than one night. You’ll regret it otherwise. • Rent a Jeep from Maritza’s—they’ll pick you up right from the ferry terminal. • Plan around the restaurant schedules. Many close on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. • Book a Bio Bay tour, and check the moon cycle before you go—aim for the darkest night for the brightest show. (We took the clear-bottom boat with Taino Aqua Adventures—epic.) This was hands down one of the most welcoming places we’ve ever stayed. It felt personal, genuine, and magical—like being folded into the rhythm of island life, even if only for a day. . Thank you, Suzanne and Tyler, for making it so hard to leave.

Yelp
Tyler the owner is truly awesome, his recommendations helped us plan our whole trip on Vieques. He then provided extra accommodations when we needed a place to wash up and change after we have checked out. The location is convenient, room is clean and cool. Can't go wrong here if you want that personal approach and need recommendations for activities.

Yelp
Perfect slice of Paradise!! Starting from the ease of booking, communication was excellent, the personal attention to detail, ease and conveniently close to restaurants! The hosts, Suzann and Tyler knew we were arriving early to Vieques and made sure all of our needs were met. They offered to store our luggage for a 3pm check in. We booked the "Love Shack" it's almost like a cute tiny home.As we were getting off the ferry, Suzann who was traveling out of town, called to let us know she put a rush to housekeeping to make our room ready earlier. Then called right back to say it was ready! The room was very clean and tidy. According to Tyler, Suzann prides herself in offering quality toiletries...and they were, in the room there was a small cooler with towels we could take to the beach, the common area included a fully stocked kitchen, the fridge housed items for all guests to use on the top shelf, dining room, lounging room with games. There is a pool but we didn't have time to use it. Tyler and his yorkie, Pebbles greeted us at the door. Tyler is extremely friendly and helpful! He went out of his way to highlight things to see, restaurants to try and the beware of the wild horses as they may be walking in the street. Best is the fact that they are a part of an organization Hooves on the Ground which ensures horses have access to water. And as we walked out the front door to explore there were four friendly wild horses drinking from their trough! Everything was clean, safe and friendly. The keep the gate closed policy is to keep the horses from coming to the backyard as they would eat up there beautiful landscaping and plants! Well worth the experience! I wish we could have stayed longer but we had other commitments.

Yelp
wish we could give this place 20 stars. the entire experience was amazing and yes we loved Pebbles. clean, bright, cool, friendly, helpful, on and on I can go.

Yelp
Fantastic house and stay. We booked this a day before our last minute trip and I'm glad we chose this house. The owners are an American couple and keep up the place very well. They have about a dozen cats but they never bothered us. The room we got was very cozy, dark and cool. The living room has many dvds in case u want to watch something, plenty of books available. The kitchen is shared by others, so just keep that in mind in case you are in a rush. They have snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, ice chests you can borrow. They have an extra bathroom for those who decide to go to the beach after checking out and need a quick shower before leaving island. Overall we had a fantastic experience here.

Yelp
This Inn was an incredible place to stay. We ended up on the island looking for accommodations at the last minute. Suzanne made space for us and was welcoming and gracious beyond anything we could have expected. The room was clean and well equipped, the property was beautiful, and the location perfect for our trip. The space is relaxing, beach supplies were provided, breakfast hit the spot, and she saved us when our taxi didn't show up to take us back to the ferry. Totally above and beyond in terms of service and reasonably priced as well. Could not recommend more strongly.

Yelp
This place was quaint and very nice change from our typical hotel stays. The owners were very hospitable and made sure everything that we would need for the area was covered. They had chairs, beach toys, fins, and even carts to take everything. Was pleasantly surprised about the amount of food available for breakfast for a small place. They really set themselves apart from everyone making sure you feel at home at their place. The owner is also a boat captain of amity charters so if you're looking for a charter, there's one available. Only stayed for a night (was there for the bio tour), but we felt home right from when we got there. We will look to spend more nights here when we go back. Definitely a change from the hustle and bustle of a touristy town.

Yelp
On our last visit to Puerto Rico, we ended up chartering a flight to Vieques on a whim. With no real idea of where to stay upon arrival, we stumbled upon the Esperanza Inn, located just off the main strip in Malecon. Jay (one of the innkeepers) was a friendly face, having moved to Vieques and opened the inn with his wife after a stint in Key West. He cut us a great deal on a 2-3 person room for the night ($98). The rooms were all unique and had strong Southwest influences in the décor (think New Mexican pueblo). Our room was equipped with AC and had an adjoining bathroom/shower. The room and common areas were exceptionally clean and thoughtfully arranged. The common area had couches, satellite TV and a giant DVD collection - ideal for unwinding after a long day of snorkeling and kayaking. There was also a pool, grill, and hammocks for relaxing in the backyard area. Fresh brewed coffee and fresh baked island bread awaited us in the kitchen in the morning. They even had a box of donated shampoo/soaps/sunscreen from guests who stayed previously. Jay was very hospitable. He lent us snorkel equipment and boogie boards at no cost, along with a cooler and some beach game supplies. He knows every inch of the island, revealing to us the best snorkel spots, beaches, and places to fuel up and get groceries/beer. He also rented us their Jeep Grand Cherokee for $45/day - a steal considering the cost of renting bikes from the Fun Brothers or cars from the one rental place on the island. There was also complimentary washer/dryer use. We could not have asked for a more wonderful experience. I would strongly recommend to anyone visiting the island to stay at the Esperanza Inn.

Yelp
The Esperanza Inn was amazing. We stayed two nights. It's a short walk from the Malecon, the main street in Vieques... with plenty of good places to eat & things to do. The Inn has great common areas -- a kitchen, tv with couches, hammocks, a pool & grill. There's also a bunch of snorkeling gear & boogie boards donated from past visitors that you can borrow. They foster a ton of animals too so hopefully you're an animal lover. :) Vieques is beautiful so it's hard to go wrong but Esperanza Inn definitely does right. Hopefully we'll be back soon!

Yelp
The Esperanza Inn is nice hotel with nice accommodations and friendly staff. We booked a room here last minute and were very pleasantly surprised. It's run by an American couple, Lisa and Jay. We only interacted with Lisa and another guy, Brian, but they were both very helpful in recommending activities and restaurants and even helped book a cab to the airport for us. The hotel has a nice, homey feel to it. Our room was stocked with colorful and beachy furniture, in keeping with the vibe of the island. They give you tons of towels, all of which have different colors and patterns. One I used had "Carlos" embroidered on it. I liked that--it very much reminded me of staying at a friend or family member's house and them giving you whatever they had. They also had a washer and drier that you could use for free. Also like a friend or family member's house, there were animals here. There was a cute and very lazy foster dog named Lucy, who I had the joy of petting. There were also a ton of cats running around and lounging. Actually, there were probably about 10 cats. In fact it smelled like animals in the kitchen and living room area, which to me was fine--again, another reminder of home. You were welcomed to make yourself at home with all of the amenities, which included a kitchen, a pool, and a living room with TV, books, movies, and local activity pamphlets and flyers. Also, they had a checkout time of 11:00, but if you had activities planned into the afternoon, you could leave your stuff there and come back and use the living room, kitchen, and even a shower they opened for you. Now, my biggest complaint is the mosquitoes. They were everywhere. I got bit a ton, despite the fact that I sprayed down with deet literally every time I came of went. This is concerning to me, especially because there's an outbreak of a crazy mosquito-borne disease called Chikungunya going on right now. Here's the thing--I understand that the presence of mosquitoes can be explained by the fact that it's a tropical island, but they did a few things to worsen the problem. They keep bowls of standing fresh water outside for the animals. Mosquitoes breed in standing fresh water. This was especially a problem for us because the bowl was literally right outside our room. Also, they were everywhere in the kitchen and living room area. It's like I would spray down and then the mosquitoes would navigate around the deet. Nowhere was safe at the hotel. We had to go to the beach or a restaurant to be secure. Also, can't you put up some mosquito coils or something? All in all, it was still a great place to stay. I was told by several locals that the mosquitoes have never been this bad as the time I stayed there, but alas, I left with bites numbering in the double digits and a lingering worry that I might get Chikungunya. I would still recommend this place because it was an awesome time and because I have hope that the mosquito problem will be resolved soon.

Yelp
It was enjoyful stay, inn staff was friendly, the rooms were comfy and the pool was nice. Extremely short distance from the beach. Would love to stay again on my next visit!

Yelp
Awesome place....great location....lots to compliment...BUT...seriously...ZERO HOT WATER. Should be noted, this is often a problem on the island of Vieques. But, still, it was quite a daunting reality in an otherwise wonderful place to stay.

Dan S.

Yelp
This place was great. We enjoyed all the pets they have on the premise, and the grounds are well maintained with plenty of places to relax. The rooms are clean, well furnished and quiet (except for the neighbor's roosters in the morning). The proprietors were very kind and informative and offered all sorts of helpful advice regarding Vieques. There are plenty of restaurants and a grocery store within walking distance, and Sun Bay is about a 10-15 minute walk from the property. We will certainly be back.

Katherine S.

Yelp
This place is alright if you don't mind the raging smell of animal urine. This means that you'll get about twenty bug bites in an equal amount of minutes. Nice room, but I wish that I'd had more head's up that my best friend and I were staying in the "love shack," which had no shower door. Totally out-in-the-open, totally awkward.

Yelp
I am really torn about this place: there were some great features, and some stuff that could be better. Overall, I would recommend to other travelers looking for budget-friendly hotel options. The place runs like an animal sanctuary, and if you are not an animal lover, then I would not recommend as much; however, they do an excellent job of keeping the place super clean. Pros: Reasonable price. Jay and Lisa are very sweet, and if you have any questions, need recommendations, or help, they are accessible and wonderful. The place has great outdoor space, lots of tables and chairs over the property to enjoy the back yard. Every morning we enjoyed breakfast on the patio, and in the evening, we made a drink and sat outside; this is what vacations are made of! he kitchen space meant we could make drinks in the evening, and prep snacks as needed. There is a lot of fridge space. This would also be an incredible place to rent out for family reunions, or larger groups. The continental breakfast in the morning was a surprise, and let us start our day earlier (since most restaurants don't open until 9am during the week, if at all). There was a good selection of magazines and books for extra reading material when I finished my beach read early. There is a small pool, but with so many great beaches, we never used it. The open-air shower was awesome. They have a section of beach chairs, and some other beach equipment, which was great; we used all sorts of stuff, and it meant we didn't need daily rentals, and we could pack a little bit lighter. The hotel is right around the corner from the Malecon, where there are many restaurant options. It was safe, all entrances were locked at all times. I never worried about my stuff. Cons: The coffee was rough; almost undrinkable. It was part of the free breakfast, so I won't belabor the point, but there is much better Puerto Rican coffee out there. The room we had was pretty loud. Even with the windows shut we heard every noise (and I sleep with ear plugs). The street noise (stereo blasting periodically) and roosters are just part of being near the Malecon, but the dog barking was very disruptive. There was a foster dog during our stay (super, super sweet), but when Jay and Lisa would leave at night, the dog would bark, and bark often (i.e. every time the gate opened). This happened all night as guests came back from late dinners, or drinks out; it woke us up 3-4 times per night, every night of our stay, which meant for a very broken sleep. Since it is a foster dog, this may not impact other travelers, especially once the dog is fostered out. There are a LOT of cats (like 10+); I am a huge animal lover, but this would probably be something to consider if you are not. There are pockets on the property with tons of mosquitos; this is an island problem, so bring bug spray! Bed linens were sparse (a sheet and waffle-throw on the bed); I slept with a sweatshirt and towels to keep warm most nights. We plan to come back to Vieques, but I would check other places first before booking this again.

Meagan B.

Yelp
My two daughters and I stayed there for 5 days and loved it. Very clean and spacious.we had a kitchen and bought groceries on island and cooked a lot and enjoyed the large balcony. We felt safe. They did have cats and a rescue dog named Lucy so cute and I love that. We had great coffee in morning and and went about on our day. We walked to restaurants and beaches for kayaking and snorkeling. There are mango trees outlining the property and a pool if you like. Very peaceful. Roosters and chickens are next door and across street so if you are a lite sleeper bring earplugs because the roosters like to crow early in morning but you can drown the noise out by turning on air conditioner. We loved it there and hopefully will be able to visit again and stay here. Horses, dogs and cats roam the island freely. It's a beautiful place to visit.
