Esqina Cosmopolitan Lodge

As many have pointed out, the hotel has a great location in the heart of Lisbon’s central district. Most restaurants and sights are walkable or with a pedicab from the nearby square two blocks to the north. There are in fact several great restaurants on the same street – Rua dos Sapateiros (shoemakers street). As has also been said, the staff are great too and the price is fair for what it is.| By European standards, the rooms are quite large, at least, the upgraded ones, which I recommend. The accoutrements are basic, again, the same as most of Europe for typical rooms. I got a street view room which was good and the windows are decently sound-proofed. I recommend against the ‘interior view’ which looks at a dim light well.| My challenges with this hotel are twofold: 1. The shower is most vexatious, with an open corner (see photo) which I found impossible to contain, and 2. The abundance of drug dealers nearby and throughout central Lisbon.| The second issue is admittedly beyond the hotel’s control but I hope they lodge a complaint with the police, who are mostly absent in the core. There were a couple of dealers in particular on the nearest corner and who were trying to sell pot and what they said was ‘crack cocaine’. At one point, a trio of them started to harass my companion and I and I had to turn around and tell them to back the f##k up, then their ‘supervisor’ came over to hush them. Lisbon is one of the best places I’ve ever been (and I’ve been to a lot) and I know Lisbon is a liberal European city but this is unacceptable on many levels and there’s an epidemic of these scum and which needs to be dealt with.| I might also add that the Baixa (central) subway station is only two blocks away so if you’re reasonably capable, you don’t need a driver from the airport, as the time difference is minimal (30-40 mins). That said, avoid rush hour.| Aside from those things, I’m happy to recommend Esqina as a solid value, clean and pleasant ‘lodge’.

It’s a great place, central to old town of Lisbon. Easily accessible to all the important tourist places.

I think this was the best hotel experience I’ve had so far! It was a last-minute reservation and I had no expectations, but wow—I absolutely loved it. The room was spotless and beautifully decorated. The view was amazing. And special thanks to the lovely Lara for her warmth and great recommendations, and to the wonderful Bruno for making the best cocktails I’ve ever had. If I ever return to Lisbon, this will be the only place I’d want to stay!

Location is excellent. Close to everything. Reception service was excellent, but honestly, what you are paying for is location, definitely not amenities or room. Very simple, basic, no closet, metal shelves in place of a dresser or a closet. The room was small, a metal desk fit for a childs room. If you expect luxury and 5 star, this is not the place. Dont get me wrong, the bed (mattress) was super comfortable and plush, nice pillows, nice blanket/comforter but as far as the room itself, I felt like I was in a college dorm room, very simplistic, metal desk, no closet and no frills, no duvet, o comforter. Definitely not luxury accomodations/furniture or amenities. Bathroom was spacious. Hotel common areas were very pretty. Some nice views from the city view rooms, although not spectacular. Its a nice hotel because of its location, but definitely not for the rooms. When you consider the price vs ratio to amenities, quality of room, location, restaurant, bar, views. The reception service was 5 star, but the room was like living in my college dorm, a bed a desk, metal shelves and a mini fridge. Not what I expected for the price. Would I stay here again? No.

Overall it was a great stay! Friendly staff and Great location. Pretty much everything is walking distance. The room was good to sleep, but considering the facility, it was more like a decent three star hotel.

Location is excellent. Walking distance to a lot of restaurants around. Close to a grocery store too. Also a massage place close by and close to shopping area too. About a block away you can go to living tours where you can book day tours from Lisbon. Staff is very helpful. Lara and Nina answered all my questions patiently. They will be able to arrange a transport for you to and from the hotel which is very convenient and safe. Rooms was spacious. Has refrigerator and safe. A lot of electrical outlets too. I highly recommend this hotel if you go to Lisbon.

We really enjoyed the location of this hotel—it’s close to the action without being in the action. The property sits at the top of a hill, so you’ll be tackling an incline coming and going. That said, there are convenient elevators nearby: a few doors down, one takes you straight to Chiado, and directly across the street, another carries you up toward Alfama and São Jorge Castle. As a bonus, the famous Bifanas do Afonso is just steps away—you can even see the line from the window of some rooms! The staff was warm and welcoming throughout our stay. One note: the building doesn’t require a key card or badge to enter, which could be a consideration for those prioritizing security. We stayed in the Artist Room, which was cozy and efficiently designed. While space is limited (just enough to lay out two carry-on bags on the floor), it does include a private bathroom and shower. There’s no extra seating or chairs, but housekeeping provides a fresh, sealed bottle of water daily, and you can get free refills at the bar if you need more. For those booking a city-view room, I’d recommend requesting the 2nd floor or higher—otherwise your view will be more of the terrace and rooftops than the skyline. Overall, a charming stay with a fantastic location and thoughtful touches.

From the moment I stepped through the door, I felt I was among friends that I had known for a long time. I was made to feel so welcome. All the staff are so amazing and such lovely people. The room was amazing and I loved sitting on the balcony watching the planes. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was amazing with alot of choice, compliments to the chef.|The bar food was also fantastic and so was the Esquina Cocktail which I had a few times :) |Special mention has to go to Bruno and his wife, such lovely people and I really enjoyed our chats when I stopped in for food and I miss you guys already. I'm already thinking of coming back to Lisbon and I definitely will be staying in this hotel again. If you are solo, I highly recommend it. It's also in an ideal spot, quiet but within 10 mins walk downhill to Praca da Commercial and the river area.
