While the hotel had some updates, the overall experience left much to be desired. The room had been renovated, but the work was done poorly. The bathtub appeared to have been painted, but there were visible residues left behind. Paint drips were noticeable on the new laminate flooring, and the craftsmanship throughout the bathroom was sloppy—grout was missing in chunks, paint was smeared on metal trim pieces, and the bathtub installation was especially rough. The toilet was difficult to flush, which added to the frustration. The air-conditioning did work well, but the room felt constantly moist and had a strong, musty odor—almost like urine. It made the stay uncomfortable despite the updated surfaces. Another concern was the elevator, which didn’t seem to function properly. The next day it was under repair, confirming my suspicion that something was wrong. It was unsettling to know that it could have been unsafe. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and I want to be clear that they were not the issue. Unfortunately, the condition of the room and the overall musty, outdated feel of the hotel made it hard to justify the cost. In my opinion, the value simply wasn't there.

Everything was excellent! The rooms, the staff, and the location. I would definitely come back! I would like to know if you could provide me with a WhatsApp number or an email address (I’m from another country and I can’t make a phone call). I left a charger in one of the rooms I stayed in. Thank you!

Booked this hotel for the first time after having stayed right on ocean drive which both times was expensive and not worth the money . This hotel had clean rooms and really great service . Our check in was easy and we did pay about 78$ for 2 days worth resort fees. For that money they offer coffee and pastries, water bottles, welcome drinks and beach towels . I would definitely call my fee worth . We were just one block from Miami clock tower and 2 blocks from the beach . The staff was friendly and helped us stow our luggage for the day after checkout while we explored the streets of south beach before catching our flight .

We stayed there a couple weekends ago to kick off our cruise trip! Could not ask for a better experience. Dimitries who works the front desk is wonderful They share some amenities with Cleavelender! Michelle who works the front desk over at cleavlander was absolutely wonderful as well. I recommend calling after you book and ask for Dimitries. He was able to explain cool spots to check out, different services the hotel offers and much more. He just helped make our stay that much more enjoyable! English is his first language and I was able to communicate with him easily. He gave us the ins and outs. When I asked he had answers. We wanted bikes and Michelle over at the cleavelender offered us smiles and even drinks after our long ride with the bikes. Things to note.. the cool amenities that the essex house offers are_ beach towels, lounge chairs for the beach (beach I believe section 15, you are closest to 10) croissants and coffee and bike service! The hotel is close to a free trolley. Be patient with ALL staff many of front desk associates and other works of the hotel (NOT INCLUDING THE Restaurant) speak little to no English. Room was cool in temperature and clean!

I stayed there in April 2025. It was noisy but I guess it cannot be helped given the location. The room was fine and clean. I booked ahead of time. When I got back, not only was I billed twice for my stay, I called several times to try to resolve the issue. I finally got someone on the line to start a refund process. After a month I called about an update and now they tell me they cannot find my reservation! I would never return.

I will share 2 experiences of my stay. My first experience was not good. I was charged $50 cash for early check in by front desk person named Demetrius. I have stayed at this hotel for over 8 years and HE SCAMMED ME AND OTHERS. DO NOT PAY CASH FOR EARLY CHECK IN. My next experiences with BeauCe and Charlene were WONDERFUL!!! BOTH BeauCe and Charlene are welcoming, professional, and caring. They made each stay worth coming back. I hope you get to experience their great personalities when you stay at this hotel. Demetrius should be FIRED FOR taking money from guests. JoJo

According to the little notice on the front door, it says please avoid our dust. ||They are rebuilding the hotel. I got a remodeled room and I think it's the cleanest hotel room I've ever stayed in. ||||The staff is friendly and quite attentive. At the front desk, Demetrius addressed a few of my minor concerns and I walked away happy||||I ate in the hotel restaurant "bacon bitch" a few times and this is the only toss-up during my stay here. ||||They don't have a pool at this hotel, but right next door is the clevelander hotel that they partner with. They have a whole corner of the city block with high tops, several pool bars and a lovely pool. There is also a DJ in the afternoon and the evening and karaoke during the week. The outdoor speakers are horribly loud but then again this is South Beach with a party atmosphere so I understand and give it a pass. ||||This is my fourth trip to miami. My first two trips I stayed in Surfside which is too far from the action. The last two trips I stayed at the national which is closer to Lincoln road. Actually, everything I need is in within two blocks of this hotel. Fabulous fabulous $5 tacos and $9 Margaritas at happy hour at azteca. If I want to quick slice of pizza it's on 11th Street. Ice cream there too. There is a reasonably priced souvenir shop called surf style. There is a mini Mart on 12th Street two blocks away that has everything you'll need for your stay and they have fabulous prepackaged sushi to go for $9 per serving which would be $18 in a restaurant easily.||||The front desk staff is friendly and attentive. I talked to Demetrius about a couple of minor concerns and he was very involved. ||||I think there's nothing better than opening your curtains in the morning and having a palm tree right beside your window. ||||Yes, I will be coming back to the Essex

Yelp
INCREDIBLE STAFF!! The manager and his staff did a phenomenal job while my stay at the ESSEX! The rooms were extremely clean and smelled AMAZING. The Essex staff really go above and beyond for you.Anything we needed we were attended right away. Staff were so helpful to recommend us places to visit and food spots. Never have i felt so welcomed at a hotel like i did here. 10/10 recommend staying here .

Chanda M.

Yelp
Pros: Comfy beds. The staff were wonderful! Especially Charlene. She was so great to chat with and was extremely helpful. Cons: the halls & room had a strange Oder and the bathroom was not as clean as it could've been. The elevator was a bit dirty as well.

Yelp
You pay for what you get.... The location of this hotel is perfect! It is about a 5-20 minute walk to bars, restaurants and clothing stores. Bacon Bitch is right next door and if you stay here you receive complimentary coffee and a pastry. The photos on their website of the rooms is pretty accurate. The bathroom is tiny and very little "renovation" has been made to the bathroom. No countertop space and the toilet looks like they pulled it out of a public restroom...super weird. Housekeeping should do a better job about cleaning the bathroom...there was some ladies eyelashes stuck on the shower curtain lol...super gross. They charge Resort Fees, $39/night!! Wayyyyyyyyyy too much for a very outdated hotel without premium amenities. I booked this place on Expedia so I was fully unaware of this. Valet is $53+tax for overnight parking!!! No free parking...not even a discount...WILD $300 deposit is needed at check-in, the $300 will go towards the resort fee and overnight parking. This hotel advertises the Clevelander free pool party but do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Got there at 11am and the DJ wasn't even there...he showed up around 1pm. We left because it was dead and it just wasn't a vibe. Passed by around 5ish and it was still dead. Would I book here again? Definitely NOT!

Yelp
The condition of the hotel reminded me of an old building in Philly of NYC. The bathroom was at a slant. The water from the tub was yellow/brown. So the place is a turd but it is polished. The room was decent. The price for the location was decent. The guy at the front desk was cool. The first room I went to smelled awful. So musty. I couldn't so he did switch me rooms. If you're not looking for a super nice place this is your spot. Again the price was right and there were no bugs so I was fine with it. It was spacious enough. Nothing amazing and won't stay again but location location location. And they did polish it up.

Yelp
This restaurant in this place is call Bacon Bitch ! Totally overrated! Trendy because of its location... I was very disappointed the drinks were weak and the food was dry .. I'll pass next time !

Yelp
I struggled with whether to leave my review with either a two star or a three star, but in the end, two correlates more with my experience. My boyfriend and I arrived about an hour before check-in but they had our room ready, heck yeah! Once we got up there, the room was almost comical. For starters, it was huge but the space was so empty. No dresser and the smallest desk ever made. There was literally eight feet between the end of the bed and the bathroom and closet. I joked that I needed monoculars to see the television because it was so far away. The closet was bare as can be. Only a few hangers and a suitcase stand. With no dresser, only having about 7 hangers was difficult. The bathroom was also weird. The only counter space was limited to a small shelf right above the toilet. You had to be careful not to knock things over because they would fall right in if the seat was up. Towels were also limited in our room and in the lobby (beach towels were supposed to be included in the room). Oh, and there wasn't ice available unless you ask the staff downstairs. We asked several times and while they said it was on its way, we never got it. On the plus side, our room came with a complimentary coffee/juice and croissant from the restaurant connected to the hotel from the outside (Bacon Bitch). That perk was for everyday of our stay. We also got a welcome drink to the Clevelander next door. Lastly, the location was perfect if you were looking to be right in the heart of South Beach. Clubs, restaurants, and the beach, all within two blocks of each other. Not sure the pros and cons balance each other out but you can make your own decisions on that one. We'll stay somewhere else in the future.

Yelp
Probably the worst hotel I have stayed in. You can tell the hotel tried to renovate what they could but were careless. My room with 2 queen beds had white paint specs all over the floor, bathroom and room floors. The bathroom door was painted and not fully dried before someone pushed the door into the toilet tissue holder - the door had toilet tissue stuck to the door. The room and bathroom door did not have a functioning lock. Actually the bathroom door was able to close all the way to even lock. The toilet had a handle that you would use like a public bathroom, lift your foot and push down on the handle to flush. Glad it was just a one night stay. The renovation was careless and the front desk was non existent. Would not stay here again.
google avatar

Susan F.

Yelp
Eh. It is okay. Two and a half stars. Our room overall was clean and comfortable but a little on the small side. We booked two Queen beds but I am pretty sure they are just doubles. No fridge or microwave in the room. Shower pressure was good however the bathroom could use an update. The light fixture was rusting out, toilet is like one where there is a flush handle like in the school bathrooms. There was also no bathroom fan so it steamed up fast. The stairs and hallways are super dirty. Carpet on stairs and hall are stained and look like it has been a while since it has been vacuumed. This is next to the Clevelander hotel which has a party going on pretty much all the time. The only pool is next door at the Clevelander and is adult access only which was no fun when traveling with kids. There is complimentary coffee and pastry from 8-10 am.

Yelp
Could not stay here. They tried to move us to the Clevelander, their other building and a nightclub, because our room was "out of order." Based on other reviews this is common practice. The room looks worse than a college dorm from the 1950s. It sounds like a college dorm too. Does not seem clean, safe, or comfortable. I'd rather lose the booking fee than spend a night here.

Yelp
This hotel is one of the worse that there is in Miami Beach. If you're planning on staying here, please look somewhere else. We were told check-in was at 2:00 pm, so my family and I get there around 1:30 pm to then be told that check-in was at 3:00-4:00 pm. We had an event planned at 3:00 pm and we needed a place to get ready which this hotel did not provide. After we come back to check-in around 9:00 pm which was the time the event ended and gave the hotel enough time for our both rooms to be ready. We get there to find out there was hidden fees that came with our rooms. 100$ deposit for each room and I would get back a 3/4 of it back but that wasn't the case when they stayed with the majority of the deposits. Then we were told that valet parking was an additional 52$ and that it didn't come with the rooms when we specifically asked if it did earlier in which the man with the dark red hair told us very clearly that it was included. Overall Super bad hotel, stinks of mold inside of the rooms. The room floors had a weird stick to it. Do not recommend this overly price hotel.

Yelp
My disabled American Army Veteran friend needed shelter for one night so I booked one night guaranteed reservation with www.reservationcounter.com for Essex House 1001 Collins Ave, Miami Beach. Rooms. By Clevelander. My friend did not have a 100 dollar deposite so had to sleep in his truck and I still had to pay for the room: www.reservationcounter.com Essex House By Clevelander Ad 1001 Collins Ave, Miami Beach. Yelp
If your traveling with little kids, I recommend look elsewhere . We expected more from this hotel. This hotel was bundled with a vacation package so we ultimately had no say in which hotel we could choose. Upon reading the info provided on their website. They claim "fridge and microwave available upon request". They should at least mention " first come first serve because we only carry one of each". Also they mention having a pool, but it's always closed off an made into a pool party for adults all day and night. Only parking is form of valet where they charge you $55 per night. You get access to beach towels and bicycles but upon requesting bikes they always seem to be out. The style of the hotel is okay I guess. Not very much to look at. The decor is mid . Only thing I liked about it was the smell of the hotel.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
The location is the best part of the hotel. You get to use the clevlander pool/bar. There is beach access. Amenities such as bikes, beach towels, and chairs. The rooms are clean. There were hotel activities going on all day and the music never stopped. Not the hotels fault but the traffic is horrible. Can take up to 10 minutes to drive just one block. Which made the valet service take a while as well.

Yelp
DON'T STAY HERE! They won't send you or print you receipts and they overcharged my credit card. They don't respond to emails and after 3 phone calls I'm told the manager is 'not there'. The front desk admitted to seeing the error but they take no steps to correct it. This on top of an old, tired and overpriced hotel is just not worth it. Go anywhere else.

Yelp
Room is very depressing. Has zero character like the other hotels. Pool is for partying, not relaxing. Umbrellas included with room are on 15th street, 5 blocks away. No fridge, no microwave. Phone didn't work, ac didn't work. Tv didn't work. Ice machine didn't work. Bathroom is extremely small. It's a very average room & maybe below average. I can find a cheaper room on ocean drive that's much better.

Jenae N.

Yelp
This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The room was spacious but very cheap looking. I was only staying for one night so whatever.. BUT..when I went to take a shower ( that had a window with no shades in the actual shower) the water was cold. So I let the water sit for a good 10-15 minutes because it's an older facility so maybe it needed time.. NO.. the water was still cold. There were guys that were trying to sell drugs in the stairways and lobby. The person working the desk in the lobby got into an argument with one of the guys because he wouldn't leave. The manager was able to switch us to the room next door which did have hot water but overall this place is not where you'd want to stay. Not even for one night.

Rosa O.

Yelp
even 1 status too much for this dirty hotel. I booked this hotel through Agouda for aug 31- sep 4th. this not even a 1 star Motel. there was smell of smelling weed everywhere in our hallway. our room was dirty. our shower was dirty. I took a towel to take a shower and there was two big black hair on the towel. they put the towel on a chair instead of placing it on the bathrooms a this place wasn't hygenjc at all to stay at!! I went downstairs to get new towel but there was NO BODY at the reception area! there were also other travelers with their languages trying to check in and there was no body at the reception desk! I waited for 30 minutes hoping somebody might come to the reception and help us and there was No BODY! I called Agouda and asked for refund, they said they can't get a hold of the hotel manager cause no body is picking up the phone! the next day and they charged my credit card for extra 39$!!!!!! I am beyond disappointed! they gave us the dirtiest room, no service, no towel, no reception pessib and charged me extra too? I would stay away from this hotel at all cost cause they are scam.

Yelp
My worst hotel experience of all time, by far. Do not stay here. I booked a room with a king bed at the Essex House, and when I arrived, they told me that I booked a room at their sister hotel, The Clevelander. I called my travel agent and she confirmed that I indeed booked a room at the Essex House. They "oversold" their hotel, and whoever showed up later was sent to the Clevelander instead. If you don't know, The Clevelander is a very old, dirty hotel with an outdoor night club in the courtyard. All you hear is bass thumping through the walls and vibrating your bed until 2am+ while also being in a dirty room with public school floors and amenities from the 1980's, the last time it was actually renovated. To make it worse, they didn't even give me the same type of room I booked. I got two full beds instead of one king. Unacceptable and rude service. When I complained, they offered me a $30 discount on the "resort fee". Don't ruin your vacation, stay literally anywhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped here for a drink but mostly to park my jeep. The valet quoted $60 and fine. But when I came back he said since my ticket is in the dash board and I took longer than 3 hours it was double. He wouldn't give me my keys back. It took 10 minutes + me recording and calling the police to retrieve my keys back, and this is after $60 valet! Shame on hiring a scam artist to park cars

Michelle A.

Yelp
TOURIST DO NOT GO HERE! YOU DO NOT WANT TO EXPERIENCE MIAMI STAYING HERE. Everyone is rude rude rude...(EXCEPT the front manager and housekeeping) No vibes no music no welcoming when you arrive just horrible!!!!

Yelp
A gem of the Art Deco Era. When one steps into the lobby the feeling of encountering all those visitors of years gone by is very palpable. I've seen a few ghosts about the lobby and corridors. There is a huge fireplace in the lobby crowned by a LePan mural, "Everglades" Absolutely stunning and lovely. The Essex House is ran by the Clevenlander, a party crazy establishment going east on 10th Street. It's a block from Ocean Dr and the sea. Service was spotty when we arrived under a deluge downpour. We couldn't get a bus-boy to help with our luggage. However, as soon as I requested from the front desk a tub mat for Mom's safety, a hotel staffer brought it to our room. Very attentive. I also requested a couple of room chairs so we can watch the Olympics without having to seat on the high bed. Rooms are well appointed. The Bathroom is a small size marble enclosure. The terrace where you can seat and just people watch, meet your friends or just read quietly, is the length of the left side of the hotel. A very nice complimentary breakfast is provided. Juices, coffee, hot tea, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit cocktail, assortment of breads & muffins to choose from. There is a restaurant on premises. A small pool is on the ground floor.

Frances M.

Yelp
basic amenities missing....no stationary in the room, shampoo, conditioner, soap...anything a guest expected at any hotel let alone for the prices charged!

Yelp
Great spot right on a oceans Drive! Katie was our server and was very helpful and attentive even though it was super packed. We all got something different and enjoyed our food. The food overall, especially the fries could have been hotter. Overall suggest this sit. Get here fairly early and know the menu changes.

Yelp
Great location, staff is incredibly friendly, complimentary croissant and coffee for the next door breakfast spot. Bedroom was beautiful and simple. Extra large mirrors

Yelp
I don't enjoy leaving bad reviews but with so many places to choose from, do yourself a favor...stay elsewhere. I wasn't expecting much from a boutique hotel near the beach, I paid for location I get that. But here were the issues 1. No refrigerator (ok can deal with that, asked for ice multiple times, still waiting for it and I'm home a week later) 2. Speaking of waiting...room service? Rang for 10 min so I called the front desk who told me try again they are there, this time it rang 30 min, so I left it ringing while I went to the Diner on 11th street, ate, came back and it was still ringing. What a joke that was. 3. The rooms are attached by a door to other rooms, so if you want a free high get ready for weed to fill your room on weekends for sure. Good luck sleeping at any reasonable time like 4am because your partying with the neighbor like it or not. 4. Service? What service? 5. Safety...now this was my favorite, people fighting in the hallways, asking me for $ as I try to get to my room, love when homeless people are in my hotel hitting me up for change. As I said, I hate leaving bad reviews but for $250-$400 a night you and I can stay at a chain hotel, lose a little in location but be safe, have a fridge, ice, don't have to party w the neighbors and ensure at least average customer service. The pros: location, water pressure except the sink, you could spit in your hand faster, AC worked.

Yelp
I booked my hotel room through hotel tonight, a fantastic app that allows to you book hotels last minute (as in Help! I need a hotel TONIGHT!) The app has never let me down in terms of the quality and pricing of hotel availability. I was kinda iffy, because I know how hotels in Miami Beach can be, especially the closer you get to Collins Ave, Ocean Drive, and the Beach.. it's almost as if they know that people are so desperate to get close to the action, they are willing to let the quality of their rooms slack, particularly if you aren't spending big money on a deluxe room, penthouse, or suite.. (think thin walls, peeling paint, horrible dated decor and furnishings, and beds that have gone soft from overuse and are overdue to be replaced... like they haven't updated the room since the early 90s). Even then they are expensive. And what are you going to do? Find another hotel last minute in Miami Beach? They know they've got you and your money and there's nothing you can do! Well, I have to say I am *pleasantly surprised* by this hotel. The room I received was as advertised. I got a "Standard" room, and it was clean, decently appointed, and just what we needed. Everything functioned as expected. Room was clean, bright, with decent decor, and decent closet space (for a standard room in Miami Beach). Staff seemed very happy, and they were all very helpful. But the perks of the room!?! Fantastic. As the sister hotel to the Clevelander, you get complimentary instant entry to the Clevelander's patio party. You also get complimentary and priority access to the Clevelander's nightly rooftop party, and access to their rooftop pool. It's literally a 2 minute walk away. Essex House give you 2 Complimentary bottles of water (front desk offers you more all the time), a card for complimentary beach towels and loungers, continental breakfast, free WiFi at both the Clevelander and Essex House. Guests get 20% off their bill at the restaurant at the hotel. And it's walking distance to Puerto Sagua, Wet Willies, The Clevelander, Mangoes, and the beach. Lobby smells good and at night the ambiance is so relaxing. To be so close to the action, it was quiet!! Shower was good, bed was comfortable, firm but not hard. My only complaint is that upon closer inspection, I did notice A LOT of unsightly rust on the towel rack in the shower, I noticed tiny specks of mold on the ceiling in the closet, and the back corner ceiling has peeling paint. The hallway was very very dark, a little too dark, and smelled mildly weird (I didn't notice it after a few minutes). So they lost a star. Other than that, this is perfect little spot to stay! (Oh, here's my booking coupon code for the Hotel Tonight app, it'll save you $25 of your first booking with them : KKING197)

Yelp
This was our first time in Miami and we stayed at the Essex house by Clevelander. The staff was all right. They weren't the best but they also weren't the worst. The room had two beds in it and you could basically see into the bathroom even when the door was closed. The bathroom door was not straight at all. There was no refrigerator in the room and we could not find an ice machine. You could tell it was an older building but it is a good place to stay if you are not going to be in the room very much for decently cheap compared to the other places. It is in a good location to walk to many places. It is one block off the strip. I will most likely spend more money on a hotel next time to get something nicer.

Yelp
We booked two rooms, very expensive and a true disappointment. Room was very dirty. Very treacherous bathtub. Requested maid service 3 times for towels and cleaning - save your $300 plus a night and go somewhere else.

Yelp
I've had the pleasure of staying in some very nice places, unfortunately this isn't one of them. Basically from lobby to room it's a bit deceiving. Nice lobby with a very attentive front desk person. And unfortunately that was the highlight of our entry. As we entered our room on the second floor, we found it to be nice but spartan. No microwave no mini fridge and electrical outlets were sparse, two in the bedroom and one (not working) in the bathroom. And now the fun begins. I honestly don't expect complete peace and quiet at any hotel, since it's always about guests and times of attendance throughout the year. But what I don't expect is guests assaulting one another next door or the police being called to try and settle the situation. The worst part, calling the front desk three times and having no response. Decided to go down and ask the new front desk manager what was up. The young man couldn't have been nicer and assured us that those "guests" would be evicted. Yet that's not the point , is it? It's about security and prompt action to maintain that security and that just didn't happen. All this and it was just our first day with 3 more to go. As you can read, im not even pointing out any of the amenities. A hotel could have every amenity one would want but it doesn't mean a thing if you don't feel secure in your property or person. Damn shame too, not the best way to start a vacation. My recommendation, I guess you can make up your own mind based on what I wrote. Oh by the way, they also charge an extra $100 as a resort fee, resort, really, laughable

Yelp
Domingo took great care of us with a terrific suite and food reccos. We never saw him not busy due to short staffing and the NYE influx but he managed it all with grace and gave guests a lot of attention. Thanks!

Yelp
Let me start by dropping off these 2 stars.... South Beach "boutique" hotels drive me crazy! These literally are overpriced motels that are in good locations...so we suck it up and stay knowing full damn well if we weren't on S. Beach we wouldn't be caught dead in these Thangs! Period. The pics on Essex House looks nothing like the rooms! The only thing that does is the lobby. Trust your co-yelpers! The good: Staff- all staff that we encountered were warm, courteous & friendly. Location- one of the best things about Essex Lobby- clean Patio- clean and good place to people watch Pool- small but clean & shaded Continental breakfast- it's free ;) Valet- nice, got our car in a timely manner when asked. The not so good: Elevator button kept not working so we would take the stairs. (It is the original elevator) Free cocktail at Clevelander but it might as well been a free smoothie bc I didn't taste a lick of alcohol. Room- first room we were given (2nd floor)was dark and mildewy....We quickly realized why..when we walked on the side of the bed closest to the window the air condition was leaking & it was literally a puddle in the carpet that sloshed under our feet! we called down and were given another room immediately. The next room was much bigger, corner room on 3td floor...I guess this would be considered a suite. There is no way in hell I'd pay extra for a suite here. There was a hoyer-lift of some kind out our window that was very loud!! The people next door..we could clearly hear their entire conversation and join in (walls made of paper!!). I had to call and ask for new bed linen bc there were stains. The bathroom had a dirty q-tip in it our entire stay & behind the bathroom door was dirty. Looked like a tampon applicator. The only thing we could think of is be drunk enough so we don't care and get some rest. I will never stay back here. Basic standards were NOT met. If you read this and decide to stay here...suit yourself! I can't do it. Bye lil dusty

Yelp
Check-in and check-out was very easy. The room had everything we needed other than windows that opened. The room had a certain stench to it but it wasn't the worst thing. The hallways are nicely air conditioned so it is never stuffy. They offer breakfast until 11 AM but today they cleaned it up by 10:30AM. I was able to get breakfast once (yogurt, cereal, pastries, coffee, tea, juice, bagels and toast). They offer happy hour with a free wine from 4:30-5:30 but I was never able to go to this. I am giving this place an extra star because of the location. It is right by the beach and is walking distance to everything in South Beach. There aren't many outlets in the room but they do offer lots of extra towels. I would definitely stay here again. I think it was a good value for the location.

Yelp
Popcorn, vino and cool ocean breezes..a large screen showing classic flicks..white curtains...popcorn in a classic container...mixed crowd, including a couple of Yelpers...dim lighting....Gotta love Miami summer nights! Free WiFi too! (If only Scarface were one of the movies shown, they'd get the fifth star :) but "We'll always have Hialeah"

Yelp
I did not stay overnight here but want to check out the classic Art Deco decoration- and it did not disappoint. I loved the mid 20th century style. It looked nice but I am not sure if I will choose this place the next time I come. I prefer new hotel or ones that are renovated recently. This definitely does not have that look!

Yelp
Deserves no stars. The pics on their site are deceiving. The worst experience ever. Me and my friends booked a suite. First the suite is located on the 2nd floor. No working elevator. This place is so dated and badly needs to be remodeled. No dresser to store clothing. The refrigerator was a joke. The freezer needed to be defrosted the ice build up was huge. Nothing but a block of ice. No microwave. Only plus. The lemonade near the front desk is delicious.

Yelp
I put my out of town relatives up at the Essex House during Memorial Day Weekend. They loved it. In the middle of EVERYTHING. The air and sea show was in town and all the military guys were staying there. (My cousin almost fainted with glee.) My family said the management was stellar and the front desk staff was superb. The prices were fair on a busy weekend on South Beach. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough!

Yelp
This is a boutique hotel so if you're a chain person beware. It's different. It smells nice. The room was decent. We found some curly hairs in the bath room but the rest was clean. Free breakfast of pastries and fruit. No protein of any sort. You gain free access to the Clevelander ($10 value per person). We got two free drinks as well. ($15 value). The beach is 150 yards away. Plenty of dining and drinking options nearby. Try Mac's Club Deuce for cheap beer. I'd stay again if in area but I'm aging out of this scene. It's Party central and very pricey. For the money I've spent here I could have stayed elsewhere closer to town and got more bang for my buck. This is the nicest place in this area though. Very very nice workers.

Yelp
This place has all the charm of an old Art Deco hotel. The location is only a block away from the beach and excitement of Ocean Blvd but being a block away allows it to be more low key. The Essex is a sister hotel of the party-all-night Clevelander so you get to use all their amenities. Couple of nice added bonus are free breakfast and free drink happy hour. As being an older hotel, the rooms are on the small side and the interior could use some updating...though that is the charm of an old hotel. Their overnight parking is pretty expensive. Drive down two blocks and park at the public indoor garage for half the price. Check them out!

Yelp
We booked through hotel tonight, making sure we were staying at the Essex house hotel. We got send to a dirty hotel and noise. Down the block "sister" hotel. While the person in front made it sound like a sweet deal saying we have a suite room. This is false advertising. They're selling rooms even tho they are oversold and sending people or just leaving them stranded. Attaching the pictures with our confirmation of the hotel we were supposed to stay. This is the biggest scam ever

Yelp
Checked in today 8-26-17 immediately following the arrival of my cruise. The price and location is great. The hotel itself is definitely not what is seen in the pictures. The room has a stench to it that makes my chest hurt, dead bugs in the ceiling light bulb cover, rusted towel racks in the bathroom, loose paint chips in the ceilings, and dirty carpets and curtains. I really am not happy with this hotel but it was paid for in advance and I'm only here over night. And with process of getting my refund which takes several days I'm forced to stay here over night. For this area to be a large tourist area this hotel and the others around it needs some serious updating. They don't even have king size beds. Myself and my husband are in a queen size but looks more like a full size bed. Im literally creeped out about staying here tonight. So today august 30, 2017 my husband checks his bank account to find that his full 100.00 incidental fee for this raggedy hotel was not refunded. Only 79.48 was refunded. Once I called they had the balls to tell me that there is a resort fee. Resort resort where? This establishment is far from a resort and they should be ashamed to call themselves such.

Yelp
Can't beat the location right at Collins Ave and 10th if South Beach is your thing. Rooms are tight and dated, and the elevator was once used as a guillotine during the French Revolution, so...keep those limbs clear. Good value though, and continental breakfast is included. Beach a block away, and you are right on the strip for whatever adventure beckons. Public parking garage at 12th and Washington for $20/day is fair so bring your ride.

Yelp
Great hotel in a great location! Super cute art deco hotel right in the middle of the bars, restaurants and a block from the beach. We got an awesome deal through Travelocity so it was also super cheap. Our bathroom was very clean and so was our bedding. Can't ask for anything more! Great hotel for the money!

Yelp
We had to postpone our trip by two weeks due to the polar vortex (pipes burst). United, Hertz and another hotel were super customer friendly and changed the reservations at no charge to two weekends later. Essex refused... all the way... Super annoying, esp since we wanted to stay with them just needed to do it later. Customer service fail 100!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay at Essex House. It was close to everything, had a wonderful and accommodating staff, and the room was nice (and had a huge jacuzzi tub-- a bonus after a long day of walking around South Beach). We would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
This Hotel Deserves This One Star Because I Was Able To Sleep Comfortably That Was About It I Had To Wait 3 Hrs In The Lobby For The Manager To Change My Reservations From Two Nights To One Night Due To The MisLeading Pricing On The Site..Was Told My Total Was $520 For Two Nights & Wen I Got There They Added An Additional $100 For Each Night Plus A Resort Fee..There Hotel Has No Hotel Parking So Ur Gonna End Up Spending $40 to $45 Per Night Just So Ur Vehicle Can Be Parked ...There Rooms Are Small Very Old Fashion Looking ..Bathroom Looks Out Dated Paint Was Chipped Up In The Tub...& The Elevators Lord U Gotta Pray When You Don't Get Stuck In Them They Feel As If There Off Track & Like There As Old As The Building.. Pool Closes At 6pm So Basically U Have Barley Any Pool Time...This Hotel Was Very Misleading And Over Priced Because Of The Location

Yelp
Great customer service and clean property Quiet Very small rooms and expensive. Only 1 trash can in the entire room. Had to turn on the hot water in the sink at the same time as the shower in order to get a "warm" shower Wanted to charge additional $50 for an extra hour extension on checkout. Small pool Tiny elevator

Yelp
This hotel is in a great location, it has a very nice atmosphere. The parking is a little difficult to maneuver... but there are deals to be found. The rooms are hit or miss .. if it's a smaller standard queen it might be very great, if you upgrade to a larger queen it will be a little better... but remember in south beach... location, location, location!

Yelp
From the moment we checked in on Friday night the staff at the hotel were just amazing. The complimentary breakfast was basic but good, the pool is a calming oasis in the craziness of South Beach. The hotel is also connected to the larger party hotel behind and you can use your room key to go up to the private deck. I will definitely be back - we were in Suite 1 on the ground floor, the room was massive only down side was being on the street level so we had to remember to draw the curtains. Having said that no noise and a restful couple of nights.
