"Clickity-clack up Cerro San Cristobal Floating over 2,500 feet above Santiago is the gleaming white statue of the Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción atop Cerro San Cristóbal, St. Christopher's Hill—the highest point in the capital that is not the Andes. One of the most fun, and easiest, ways to get to the top is via the old funicular train, constructed in 1925. As it steeply ascends the hill, the city and its valley spreads out below with sweeping views. Cerro San Cristóbal, Bellavista, Santiago Phone: 56 (2) 2730-1300 Park daily 8:30 am--9 pm. I had a full day of activities. I was doing it all and I thought why not I’m really glad that I did. The view was incredible and it brought me into another area of town that I would’ve had passed. It was definitely worth it. I WOULD RECOMMEND

Great value Tickets can be purchase online, recommended on busy days to skip the line. If not busy no need to worry. Round trip for funicular and cable car is $10k

Great excursion to take In Santiago. Excellent views and worth the effort to climb to the top. Several levels for panoramic views of Santiago for a very reasonable cost

Definitely buy the ticket online to save time (because you'll need it)! Scan the code even outside when you get there, and look at your options. I purchased the tickets in less than 5mins. Then the waiting starts for the funicular, the view is worth it. Then from there you gotta walk some 5 mins to get to the CableCar and AGAIN wait in line for that. I just wanted to go from the funicular to the end of the CableCar route and back... if you want to do this same deal, then don't get off at the end. Just continue on and stay in the cablecar to return back to the Funicular area. I made the mistake of getting off at the last stop of the cable car and had to wait AN HOUR to get back on the cable car. There were a variety of snacks and food and views were beautiful. I think I spent $40 on the tickets and eating for 2 people in total. Wasn't bad.

Worst experience of my life. Was unfortunate enough to come on a public holiday. Utter confusion, inefficient queue management, I waited more than an hour just to get on. Take the bus or walk on busy days, staff can't handle it at all. Amazing view but not sure worth the hassle if you can just walk it. Do better

Good for hiking, biking, walking. Great place to spend some easy time.

Pre book a ticket and the queue was about 20 mins. Nice views and enjoyable ride up. Much faster than the cable car queue and well priced

Yelp
This was fun. Our tour group of 34 piled into a cable car to climb up the steep grade to the top. There's a bench in a couple of the cars. But for the most part it's standing room only. You'll be able to see the skyline of Santiago as the car continues to climb. Likewise coming down. Once you get off the cable car you can continue taking the stairs or the roundabout terrace to see the Virgin Mary. There's also an open air chapel. We were given free time on our tour so hubby & I made the most of it. Not much more to do once you've climbed up to see the Virgin Mary and you've taken your scenic photos. Bathrooms, small gift shop, and a cafe. Our group queued up and went down the cable car to our tour bus.

Yelp
I love funiculars so it's hard for me to give this anything less than five stars. I started at the top of the mountain after riding up in the cable cars then took the funicular back down. Note that those two means of transport leave you in very different places at the bottom of the mountain. There were some nice cats to pet while waiting in line for about 10 minutes for the car to arrive. The views at the top are amazing so don't forget to look around while you're up at the peak. The ride was about as bumpy as you'd expect. We had a brief pause about halfway down and then we passed the other car that was making the ascent. The incline is fairly steep so each car gets excellent views without being blocked by someone's head in front of you. If you've been to Pittsburgh, this one is definitely a longer ride than either of the inclines there so enjoy the journey!

Yelp
It's easy to see that there can be long lines here and the tour guide mentioned that it can sometimes be an hour. But when I stopped by, it was a quick five minutes and I was able to wait it out in the shade. After paying for my ticket, I immediately boarded the funicular train. It's a quick ride of maybe four or five minutes but comfortable enough if you're able to stand for that long. The wait for the return was longer, maybe ten minutes and because I was an "uno" I was able to get ahead of two parties of four. Woot for solo travel. The train is a little clanky and I was a little bit concerned. I don't know about the engineering involved here so I stood by the side in case. Completely unnecessary, of course. Tip: Buy the round trip. You really don't want to walk down.

Yelp
As far as funiculars go this one is the bees knees. To be honest, I have only been on 4 different funiculars so there might be a cooler one out there that I don't even know about, but for me it provides the perfect mix of awesome views, culture and fear that I look for in a funicular. Fear?! Yes, I'm talking about the moment you get in and think "there is no way this somewhat old-looking funicular and its pulleys can carry all of this weight". Oh and that second moment...when you have finally gotten over the first, but then you see the funicular coming the other direction and you think "wait...is this a two-way street?!? I really don't think both funiculars can fit here at once...omg we are going to crash!!" But then the funicular gracefully passes and you breath again and finish taking pictures of the awesome view. On the way, if you are lucky, there is a folkloric Chilean musician who will get on board and play his guitar and sing. It really will get you pumped-up for exploring the cerro. Tip: If you have the energy and the time, I suggest walking up the cerro to the virgin (it takes about 45 minutes). Besides being a great form of exercise, you get to skip the super long funicular line. However, I do suggest going down on the funicular, the line is always pretty short and even if you do have to wait at least you get a beautiful view of the city.

Yelp
Even in the daytime, it can get chilly, so I recommend you wear layers, and make sure you're wearing comfortable shoes, as there are hundreds of steps. The views are pristine and breathtaking and the honeysuckle breezes will soothe your senses in the ride.
