I generally only write very positive reviews as there is far too much negativity on most review sites. With this resort hotel however, some of the reviews on Trip Advisor seem very far from my experience. This review is mixed, but hopefully fair.||||Let me say first, that we ended up at the Estancia del Carman for 3 days on a last minute special, where the actual resort’s name was not revealed until after payment and the description suggested a luxury resort. The location was a negative surprise, as was the rustic character of the place. While my wife and I were at first put off with the general appearance of the resort and the fact that the lake is a 45 minute walk on busy, dusty roads, we really enjoyed our 3 day stay.||||All 19 hotel rooms offer an unobstructed view of Lago Gutierrez and the Cathedral Mountains. Some of the dozen or so cabins offer views; others are set back a bit. The grounds are spacious and treed with a large play area for children.||||The resort staff was welcoming, helpful and spoke enough English to make it easy. As we had no car, we depended on the onsite restaurant that gets some bad reviews on this site. We found the breakfasts tasty and plentiful with bread, croissants, limited cereal choices, cheese and sliced ham as well as rather weak coffee. We ate 3 dinners and one big lunch in the restaurant. Food was at times slow in coming as it is all fresh cooked and generally of good quality. (The “tabla” – a mixed plate for 2 was wonderful for value, taste and presentation.)||||The swimming pool is inside and like most of the resort could use some maintenance and TLC, but it was usable and had a view.||||The spa consists of one small room off the pool with a single table, but my wife and I felt the deep tissue massage we ordered was professional and inexpensive. ||||The resort is 10 km from Bariloche and requires a taxi. The city bus service only runs about every 2 hours. There is no hotel transfer alluded to in an earlier review.||||The hotel rooms are spacious with great views. They do need to be updated and the general maintenance of the grounds could use some additional care. This is an Argentinean family resort. At about $100 USD a night it is good value, if you have a car and want to be away from the hectic pace of Bariloche town. I would not reommend the location without a car.
