Estatua de Woody Allen

It is a statue dedicated to the famous American film director Woody Allen, installed in Oviedo in honor of his connection to the city. In 2008, part of his film Vicky Cristina Barcelona was filmed in Oviedo, and he praised the beauty of the city.

During a vacation in Bilbao, we felt it's the right choice to visit the statue of Woody ( whose movies we love).. its a well made statue and it's the closest I will meet Woody 😂 Not sure if the visit was worth it as the rest of the city didn't really impress me. Nonetheless the scenery between Bilbao and Oviedo was so beautiful!

People keep saying he had a great bond with the city. As good as the bond he had with his step daughter? The one he married?

If you are a fan of Woody Allen you need to have a photo with him in Oviedo! Woody Allen Statue appeared in Oviedo not suddenly. It was a present to the director and a sign of gratitude of citizens of Asturias. A life-size statue of Woody was inaugurated in 2005 after the famous film director dedicated compliments to the city of Oviedo upon receiving the Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Artes. In the same year Allen came to Spain and reached an agreement to film his movie “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” in Avilés, Barcelona and Oviedo.

Intriguing to find Woody Allen in the streets of Oviedo. The statue could use a bit of maintanence but neverthless captured Woody's essence and his trademark sad frowning face. Be sure to find that film Woody made for Oviedo!

A very popular statue, right in the middle of a vibrant, busy city.

Life size Woody Allen statue, a must if you visit Oviedo. Woody has a great bond with this city, and a picture here is a great memory. Besides, be sure to check out more statues in Oviedo, you will have fun!

Was surprised to see a statue for Woody Allen. Its a very good likeness. We enjoyed looking for the many other statues around the city

I am not a big fan of Woody Allen but it was nice to see a statue of a well known American celebrity in Oviedo. The Monument to Woody Allen is a life-size bronze sculpture of the American actor and director. The statue was installed in 2003. The Spanish newspaper El País remarked that "It looks like he is walking with a sad face and his mind somewhere else, not in Oviedo right now, although if you put yourself to his side and start a conversation with him it is so realistic that it looks as if he would answer you". Allen had travelled to the city in 2002 to accept a Prince of Asturias Award. His 2008 film Vicky Cristina Barcelona was partially set here. In front of the statue there is a plaque with Allen's description of Oviedo, reading in Spanish "Oviedo is a delicious city, exotic, beautiful, clean, pleasant, calm and pedestrianised, like it does not belong to this world, as if it didn't exist... Oviedo is like a fairy tale". Oviedo has been noted for its statues, with the city containing over a hundred and fifty outdoor sculptures.

The Plaza where the Woody Allen statue is really pretty at night. It's got a lovely warm glow, that is especially pretty when the streets are wet. The statue itself definitely looks like Woody. I don't get why someone felt compelled to make a statue of this weird little man to begin with though. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to see the statue, but since it's in the Casco Antigu0, which is the most beautiful and interesting part of Oviedo, it is inevitable that you will come across this odd sculpture.
