On the Grid : Ethnographic Museum

"The Ethnographic Museum is located in a quiet part of the Palace, near where the emperor’s chambers used to be. The secluded area is actually one of my favorite parts of the Palace, because it feels so peaceful and has a beautiful view of the tower as well as the Riva. The museum showcases the history of Croatian people through everyday objects like clothing, jewelry, pottery, furniture and weapons. Right next to the front desk of the museum is a table with handmade glasswork. If you’re lucky, you might catch someone crafting a beautiful glass pendant. A really mesmerizing process." - Leslie Yeh

Ethnographic Museum offers an immersive experience of going back in time whether it is through its detailed displays and video content or through organizing workshops for both children and adults. The permanent exhibition is delightfully set up and their current collection is one small treasure. Visit the Ethnographic museum if you find yourself in Belgrade. Their goal of nurturing tradition and preserving culture is also reflected in limited differently themed events that occasionally take place in the same building. One of those was held on International Museum Day - "Vampire in the Ethnographic Museum" and was organized in collaboration with the Blood Transfusion Institute of Serbia. This special exhibit featured a display inspired by modern and traditional beliefs around vampires showcasing various items used for protection or present in local burial customs significant in folklore. The organizers prepared a range of activities including a dance recital, a discussion about the impact and role of vampires in pop culture vs folklore, a "find a hidden object" game for visitors, drinking smoking cocktails, a program for children and playing an iconic national horror movie "Leptirica". For a small entry fee, you get to see a small piece of history and possibly bring a part of it home. Check out the museum shop for skillfully crafted handmade souvenirs from our local people.

Good choice if you want to know more about serbian culture. Little shop inside I can also recommend to buy some local things as a gift. Very good with books.

The permanent exhibition of the Ethnographic Museum showcases a vast collection of everyday objects gathered from various locations across Serbia. Each artifact tells a unique story, offering a deep insight into the country’s rich cultural heritage. The exhibition is well-organized, allowing visitors to explore traditional Serbian life through beautifully preserved clothing, tools, and household items. The attention to detail in the displays makes the experience both educational and visually captivating. A must-visit for anyone interested in history, tradition, and Serbian folk culture!

Unfortunately, in May there were some works in the museum, so exhibition was limited to the ground floor and third floor. However, quite interesting, and almost empty. Ticket price 400 rsd, spent app an hour.

Amazing exhibition showing everyday life of Serbian people from all over the country. From word robes, tools, carpets, household items to old house models from different parts of Serbia and real life sets of living rooms people had and lived in throughout Serbia in 19th century and older. Really nice museum to visit if you are nearby, and I am sure most tourists will be nearby considering other must-see locations in the area :) Entry was around a 1€ per person. Time spent: about an hour.

Worth visiting. It's very appealing and educative both for children and adults. Souvenirs are great, though a bit pricey (especially if you live and work in Serbia).

We hadn't have time to visit too many museums in our short visit but I'm glad we could experience this one! I liked how they brought together different elements of Serbian folk culture. I fell in love with the beauty of the traditional clothes especially. You should definitely give a chance to this nice museum if you are around the city
