National Museum of Ethnography and Folklore

Excellent throughout! We learned about the Aymara practices of harvesting animal fibers from the camelids, development of garments by the indigenous peoples, the wildlife, and more. Curation is all Spanish, but translation apps help.

Enjoyable museum that is well curated and easily navigable. Allow around 90 minutes to see it all. The masks section a highlight, although you pay extra to photograph this area.

This whole museum was amazing! Well-curated in seven rooms, and it looks like there are plans to expand. The foreigner admission price is cheap compared to museums in the US. It is now Bs$35, and I didn’t see any upcharge for taking pictures (as others have mentioned.) I spent 90 minutes and learned a lot. There were QR code links for more information at many of the exhibits. The entry is in a colonial mansion, and there is a new, modern addition. Neither side was wheelchair-friendly.

Beautiful and well presented museum in the heart of La Paz. The exhibits are a combination of old and modern pieces and explains the history of the region through visual aids very well. The museum is all in Spanish which makes it difficult for someone who doesn’t speak the language to read the texts, but it’s not entirely necessary to understand what is going on. Downloading a translate app with the camera function could be helpful before visiting!

The museum sports an excellent collection of carneval masks, a small but interesting photo collection, a textile collection as well as pottery and coins. The museum is well worth a visit. A downside is, though, that the explanatory texts are exclusively in Spanish. I feel that translating at least some introductory texts into English would render the experience more accessible to foreign tourists as well.

The displays looked nice and were well curated, but since foreigners pay 7x the price of admission as locals do I would have thought that there might be some foreign language interpretation as I’ve seen in other South American museums. I don’t mind paying more than locals But there was little info I was able to digest. The internet inside didn’t work very well and a few of the displays had QR codes but most of those didn’t scan or simply led to a Google search of the label I was looking at.

Excellent museum with rooms on different aspects of Bolivia culture. Really well set out . All in Spanish so take a translation app. Apparently they had WiFi

I loved the displays in this place, an extra language on the displays would be nice.
