Ethos Hotel & Caffè

We stayed in the Ethos hotel for three nights as part of a long weekend break. Firstly, the location is great, and only a short walk from Westgate shopping centre and all the tourist attractions of central Oxford. The experience with the hotel rooms was rather mixed. On the first night, our room had an interconnecting door (albeit locked) to another hotel room which was occupied by people we do not know. Unfortunately, through the door, we could hear almost everything going on in their room, even though they were not being at all loud. This is disruptive for sleep, but also made us feel uncomfortable even having a conversation at normal volume in our room. We noted this to the hotel staff, and to be fair they were able to offer us an upgrade to a much nicer room with no shared doors. The rooms themselves were okay for the reasonable price. On one of the days our room was cleaned, the bin bag was simply removed from our bin, tied up, and left next to the bin, which was a bit puzzling, but otherwise everything was generally clean. Breakfast was also average, although the hot food we ordered was served quite cold. Overall, a bit disappointing and I think the interior noise really started our trip off badly, but to be fair the location is excellent and the staff did play a role in improving our experience for nights two and three.

We stayed for a few nights over the Xmas period. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was pleasant and clean. It would have been nice to have had more bedding as it was rather cold. It was useful to be able to eat at the hotel when we arrived fairly late in the evening.

We booked apartment 4 and also booked a VIP car park space for the weekend. We booked directly with the hotel and were offered free breakfast that we only used on one of the two nights that we booked. The lovely lady, Prerna, who worked tirelessly behind the bar helped make our stay our stay work seamlessly; nothing was too much trouble. Access to the serviced apartment was via digital number door locks - that came in very handy as we didn’t need a physical key. Lots of TV screens and good internet. Superb location with a very close proximity to the city centre - only 10/15 min walk. We really enjoyed the stay - we’ll be back!

The place was old but well maintained and it's got a modern feel to it. Continental breakfast was included, within walking distance to Oxford city.

I booked Ethos as it’s less than 5 minutes away from my daughter’s university accommodation, but it’s less than 10 minutes walk into the city centre so it’s a great location. The room and bathroom were clean. There was a fridge and microwave in the room which I thought was brilliant. Had the breakfast which was very good. Complementary water and crisps were a nice touch. I also got the free breakfast for two and as I stayed on my own they let my daughter have the other breakfast which she was very greatful for. Not all Oxford students are minted! 😂 I only have one issue this needs a mention as it could leave you out of pocket if you’re on a limited budget. They take £150.00 off your card when you check in. You get it back when you leave but it could be an issues if you don’t have a credit card only a debit it needs mentioning as you don’t get told until you check in. Would I stay again.. Yes definitely better than a premier inn!!! Can’t comment on parking as I got the train!

We stayed 1 night for a concert on weds 11th November. On arrival the receptionist male was very polite. Unexpected holding fee off £150 even though I had paid in full, parking £29.50 however you had £20 credit to use on food/drink. Shown to our room 105, spacious warm but had lots of lightbulb outages 4 in total. Room average for cleanliness rather dusty. We ate there that evening feta cheese salad plentiful and tasty, chicken pizza lovely. G&t very reasonable , bottled ginger beer reasonable. Went to show arrived back at 10.30pm we had been told bar open until 11pm we went in lady was cashing up couldnt have a drink.. bit naughty. Breakfast next day, very pleasant waitress, full english was tasty and filling I had the scrambled egg on sour dough with parmasen very nice. Can not grumble about the food and staff.. just need to keep on top of accommodation and the times stated

The Ethos Hotel was wonderfully located just south of Christ Church in a quiet neighborhood. The apartment was perfect for my large family of six and well suited for our time in Oxford. Highly recommend! The staff was courteous and helpful.

Flavoursome food with friendly service We recently had an excellent meal at Ethos cafe, the Italian inspired menu had a nice variety of food choices, our Pizza was delicious, rustic, flavoursome & authentic, the staff were super friendly with Bushra a standout star, professional, attentive & charming. The cafe looked a bit tired & needs upgrading befitting its four star, “boutique” Hotel rating. It’s great to see a local independent running so expertly. I highly recommend it. Local resident.
