We stayed in the Ethos hotel for three nights as part of a long weekend break. Firstly, the location is great, and only a short walk from Westgate shopping centre and all the tourist attractions of central Oxford.
The experience with the hotel rooms was rather mixed. On the first night, our room had an interconnecting door (albeit locked) to another hotel room which was occupied by people we do not know. Unfortunately, through the door, we could hear almost everything going on in their room, even though they were not being at all loud. This is disruptive for sleep, but also made us feel uncomfortable even having a conversation at normal volume in our room.
We noted this to the hotel staff, and to be fair they were able to offer us an upgrade to a much nicer room with no shared doors. The rooms themselves were okay for the reasonable price. On one of the days our room was cleaned, the bin bag was simply removed from our bin, tied up, and left next to the bin, which was a bit puzzling, but otherwise everything was generally clean.
Breakfast was also average, although the hot food we ordered was served quite cold.
Overall, a bit disappointing and I think the interior noise really started our trip off badly, but to be fair the location is excellent and the staff did play a role in improving our experience for nights two and three.
