Etnia Casa Hotel (Trancoso, Bahia) 2 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Up north in Bahia is where you’ll find the wilder, rougher side of Brazil — which for anyone bored of the beach scene in Rio is not a warning but a positive enticement. Trancoso was one of the prototypical fishing-villages-turned-hideaways, and there’s still plenty of that mellow bohemian vibe about it. Which Etnia Casa Hotel trades upon quite liberally." - Tablet Hotels

Etnia Casa Hotel, Trancoso, Near Porto Seguro, Bahia, Brazil - Explore & Book

"Trancoso, on the coast of Southern Bahia, epitomises boho-chic. Lulled by its tranquil charm and beautiful beaches, hippies discovered this fishing village in the 70s. Recent years have seen the arrival of more cosmopolitan visitors, but its low-key character and distinct bohemian feel remains intact. Etnia's simple contemporary design and natural setting sits well amidst this new vibe. Dotted around woodland, the 7 villas each present a different world style, from Africa to the Orient. Created by the charismatic owners Andre Zanonato and Corrado Tini (from the world of Italian fashion and design), it gels with immaculate taste, attention to detail and a personal touch. Imagine white cushions, rattan armchairs on pale polished concrete floors, a light breeze wafting through white drapes, and the blue pool before you. There's a certain understated sophistication to Etnia (or Etnia Casa Hotel as they have now dubbed it). No wonder it's a favourite for fashion shoots, design journals and people who want something a bit different. Highs The cool open-air lounge serves a delicious breakfastIt's affordable and stylish; interesting design features abound The owners are warm, gregarious and highly knowledgeable Trancoso's charming "Quadrado" - a grassy rectangle lined with boutiques and friendly laid-back restaurants - is just round the corner Lows The beach is a 10-20-minute walk awayThe shaded forest setting means there are some mosquitoes, but nets are provided in the roomsIt requires a bit of effort to get to Trancoso - a domestic flight to Porto Seguro and then a taxi-ride or a bus and ferry (it's best combined with a stay in Rio or Salvador)" - Nikki Tinto

My husband and I visited for three nights and our stay could not have been better. The villa had everything we needed and was spacious and comfortable. We loved having the privacy of our own patio and upper deck to relax and listen to the birds.|Filipe the manger was very attentive and helpful. He took great care of us! A table by the pool was set out for us every morning for a delicious breakfast. Filipe had good suggestions for dining in town and also arranged a spot for us at a local beach club for the afternoon.|We did a couple of adventures-biking and UTV-and Filipe helped arrange both of those. |The town was a short walk away and is lovely and there were so many restaurants it was hard to choose! Lots of shopping and also a nightly local market on the square.|I would love to go back again sometime!

Beautiful piece of paradise. The villas are spacious, clean and equipped with everything you need. We were four couples, split in two villas and there were bedrooms to spare. The location is not on the beach (which appears to be typical of many hotels in Trancoso), but the pool is very nice. It is a very short walking distance (5 minutes) to the center of town and all the fabulous restaurants, bars and shops. ||Beach clubs are the way to go and there are plenty to choose from - close by (20minute walk/10 minute cab) and far away (1 hr cab). ||Filipe, the manager and concierge, is AMAZING. He takes care of everything - bookings, taxis, recommendations, etc and his response time is immediate. The staff are all friendly, kind and accommodating. ||The included breakfast is very good - different offerings each day and also a set menu of local food and traditional breakfast options. ||If you are headed to Trancoso, definitely consider staying at Etnia!

Etnia is a wonderful Pousada and boutique hotel in the middle of Trancoso. It’s perfectly situated right outside the Quadrado so you can walk to any restaurant. You also have the option of visiting multiple different beach clubs during the day instead of being tied to a single beach club. The rooms were extremely spacious, essentially you have a whole house to yourself. The staff was incredibly attentive and our rooms were kept very clean. The best part of it though is Felipe who helped us book every experience, restaurant, or beach club that we desired. Felipe is a wonderful host and made our experience, enjoyable and easy.

Lovely place just off the Quadrado. Owner and staff very attentive and very friendly. Full of recommendations to make our stay in the area the best it could be. Breakfast very nice with the best home made cheesy balls in Brazil! (And I’ve had a lot of cheesy balls since being here!). Beach is a decent walk so we opted for a few nights here (where we chilled out around the pool area and went into the square every night) then in other pousada on the beach.||Great stay, Trancoso is stunning, lively and friendly, although not a cheap venue.|

This hotel is in fact an addition of small houses that are owned separately and ultimately managed by 2 guys that live in Italy.||I was the only guest in any of the7 (?) houses. Although the occupancy was very low, the rate was high and was even higher the day I left (outside weekend) with just one guest checking in on that day. One would think that they would lower the rates to fill-up the property, but this is not the case, although the staff has to be present even for one guest.||||Do not expect to walk to the beach from this property. ||||The breakfast was the best part as I was very treated by a very nice staff.||||The concierge was also very helpful. He is really an asset to this property.||||If you like coffee, bring your own Nespresso capsules. They charge R$20 (about 5 USD) per capsule in the room or at the restaurant, if you order an espresso or a cappuccino (without prior warning). I guess that some guests are not careful and think the capsules are complimentary like in other luxury properties.||||The restaurants are expensive in this small village, but the vibe is nice, although things to do are very limited.

We had a wonderful stay here. The villas are beautiful and the staff is exceptionally attentive, especially Vitor the concierge. It's very safe and they have security patrolling through the night. Very close to the town square and short walk to beach. The breakfast is fantastic. We were sad to leave. I don't know if we'll have the chance to return to Trancoso, but if we do, we'll stay at Etnia again!

We wanted a quiet, romantic pousada to celebrate our anniversary and this was the perfect place. The owners and concierge were wonderful. We opted for dinner at the on site restaurant and lived the Rio do Barra. We would definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay at Etnia. Staff are helpful, room was spacious (although be careful which room you get as not all are within reach of WiFi) and the pool is perfect for a morning dip. The only let down was the food. We paid 45 real for a microwaved mini quiche and a couple of lettuce leaves. But you’d be mad to eat there anyway when you have some of the finest restaurants right outside.
