Beautiful historic synagogue that has been restored to former look. It has a rich heritage that has been preserved by the local community. Very welcoming of visitors as well.

When in Chania just step in to feel the magic of this place and take a time to contemplate icons and interior itself. A quite place in a busy center of Chania city.

Lovely old synagogue tucked away in the side streets of the old town. What it lacks in visual appeal (currently under renovation), it makes up for in lovely, caring staff. They went out of their way to make me feel at home and brought the history to life.

Ancient synagogue, egalitarian, whatever. The only remaining synagogue in Crete. Guide says they make some funky Friday night Shabbat service with guitar. Oy, not for frum people. They let me immerse in the old mikve. Nice visit, Jewish style.

A place we'll worth a visit for those interested in Jewish history. Very friendly staff. I have missed a wider choice of high quality synagogue-related souvenirs, which could remind me of the visit and attract some more money to maintain the place.

Truly memorable. I'm not a synagogue visitor type, but this one and its story are special. The docents are so forthcoming and earnestly into the spirit of it, and their earnestness is contagious. You won't regret visiting Etz Hayyim.
