Flight Shaming: Is Flying Bad for the Environment?

"On the Paris–London route I found that a round‑trip flight produces about 246 lbs (111.5 kg) of carbon per person while taking the Eurostar produces only about 49 lbs (22.2 kg), making the train a far lower‑emission option for that journey." - Matthew Kepnes

We did premium class and were very satisfied! Now, we do not recommend the food! Buy something before you board and bring that with you!

This is a great station for the Eurostar service to Paris. The station is lovely with some funky art and links to the underground. There are plenty of shops and bathrooms. The line through security was short and smoothly operated. Coming back the process was simple except the new micro chip passport readers which are new were having issues. A great service

On Friday evening, we felt it was crowded with nowhere to sit. We were allowed to take through our coffee takeaway drinks through border control checks. There was nowhere to sit in the waiting area. According to a member of staff who I spoke to, this wasn't busy as it can be rammed full of people standing everywhere. There were 2 coffee/eateries and one small souvenir duty-free shop. We also saw mice behind the glass door leading onto the platform, which we found quite entertaining given that there was not much else to do.

There were long queues when I visited so I recommend getting there in good time. If you get there early though you can go through quite quickly, I was through in 15 mins from when I turned up. Much smoother boarder control and bagging check process than when flying. WiFi on the Eurostar itself was a bit patchy throughout the journey, so I suggest bringing a book or another way to entertain yourself. You can charge phones etc using EU or UK chargers when travelling. My onward train had changed platforms which they announced while I was on the train which made my change smoother.

Eurostar offers a great service to travel between France, Belgium, UK and The Netherlands. We travelled Eurostar Plus in first class. Service was nice, there was enough space, decent food and drinks and also electricity, WiFi, charging USB, etc. Be there at least 40 minutes before departure because going through customs takes some time.

Both journeys outbound and return... No driver, so delayed significantly. Regardless of this it's still my preferred transport method Paris-London. Delays for staffing issues are frustrating, hopefully they can iron out this kink. As I would have said it was a one off it wasn't both directions the same issue. I went for the extra fee of +class... Super impressed with the meal offering and the friendliness of staff. Along with the no restrictions on liquids or weight of luggage, its preferable over flying; often not the cheapest option but the more relaxing one.

With nothing to do and nowhere to sit they make you arrive 90mins before your journey time; why? With 3x train's worth of people and their luggage waiting it's a thoroughly unpleasant experience. And there's no excuse at all for the vastly overpriced food (a £tenner for a packet mac-cheese? Really?)

The trip from St Pancras was great. When we arrived at Brussels midi, we were informed by email about a person hit by the train and the train from Brussels to Amsterdam Central would be affected. Of course that is understandable. However, there was no further information from Eurostar while a platform full of passengers waited for over 3 hours until midnight. No one from Eurostar was available to speak with and no information about getting the train the next day. That day was a "planned strike" and no one could say if we would get into a train the following day. Poor customer service all around.
