This was our second year visiting the Eventide with family and friends. We started this tradition after the heartbreaking loss of our young son, using this time to step away from home and be close to the National Seashore, where we find peace and reflection.
Unfortunately, this will be our last year staying here, as we no longer feel welcome.
During our stay, another guest was unable to maneuver out of a parking spot next to our truck, which was parked correctly. Instead of calmly addressing the issue, they came to the pool area to confront us about moving the vehicle. At the time, we couldn’t locate the keys immediately, and instead of being patient, the guest became agitated and began making a scene, calling our vehicle—just a standard full-size Chevy—“obnoxious.” Words were exchanged between two adults, and the guest then chose to call the owner.
The owner approached us the next day and asked what had happened. We calmly explained that the other guest was upset because he couldn’t figure out how to back out of a space and created a scene. The owner walked away without further comment, and we assumed the issue was over.
However, about 20 minutes later, just as we were packed in the truck with our children and ready to head to the beach on the anniversary of our son’s death, the owner stormed over and berated my husband in front of our family. He spoke to him like he was a teenager rather than a paying adult guest. The confrontation was loud, unprofessional, and entirely one-sided—despite the fact that we were not in the wrong.
As professional career people ourselves, we were extremely disappointed in how the situation was handled. A private conversation would have been far more appropriate, especially given the presence of our children. Disagreements happen—this is life—but how you handle them as a professional makes all the difference.
This place once brought us comfort, but we will be finding a new destination going forward.
