"Just west of Denver, you'll find Evergreen Lake, a forty-acre body of water that offers plenty of space for free skaters, hockey enthusiasts, or broomball players (with rentals available), all surrounded by pine-covered mountains. It's recommended to call before you go to check the latest weather conditions." - Travel + Leisure Editors

At a higher altitude of 7054 ft I was amazed that there was actually snow on the top of the surrounding mountains even in mid-summer. I went on the walking trail which was a short walk around the lake of 1,25 miles. Along the way there were ablutions and picnic facilities. Fishing is popular at the lake with trout available for fishing if you have a licence, seasonal boating and ice-skating are also popular activities.

Beautiful lake! You'll get great views from every part of the trail. Tons of people paddleboarding. There's construction going on, so take the upper lot exit and take a right. If you take the wrong turn you'll have to drive back another 10 minutes back to where you started.

Amazing day at the lake! People are mostly kind and considerate And the views are spectacular. Parks and rec Offers shuttle parking if the lot is full. You can rent paddle boards or kayaks and life vests. Only downside is there is no swim area.

A small lake in the Rocky Mountains valley. The view around this place is mind blowing. They have a nice trail around this lake and plenty of open space for your kids to enjoy and play around. If you like fishing i would definitely recommend this place. It’s a easy drive from Denver highly recommend. The only issue could be nice restaurants around this place, though they have one or two around but not too many options to go for. They have 18 hole golf course just beside the lake for golfers

We have been here in the winter for ice-skating on the lake, which we absolutely loved! They have skate rentals, and they even had things for us to hold if we didn’t want to fall. We also love coming in the summer because you can rent a canoe or a kayak. The double kayak is $40 an hour. Their staff is always so friendly and willing to help. And it’s just a beautiful view!

I like this lake. I have visited it many times. Every time it is special wonderful. You can fish here, go kayaking, have a picnic, hiking... In winter you can go ice skating.

Wow, this lake is stunningly beautiful. It has that perfect winter lake hockey vibe, the community can meet up here and hang out and play around with the good ol' frozen biscuit. Highly recommend, best lake to play hockey!

Such a serene mountain lake to skate at during the winter (or just sip coffee indoors and enjoy the view). Really well maintained, with just the right amount of preserved wilderness and rustic charm It may be only 20 minutes from the chaos and smog of Denver, yet you feel worlds away

Yelp
Nice lake, trail goes around the whole lake. Takes about half to an hour to walk the whole trail. There's a small rental shop for paddle boards and kayak. Parking lot available for guests.

Yelp
Easy, beautiful waterfall, lake and trail. 1.4 miles total of flat trail, partially paved, partially packed dirt. At the bottom of the dam there is a shallow stream, some bridges and a community garden. Would be great to bike, walk or explore with kids or pets. The views are so pretty!

Yelp
A walk in the park. Wanting to see the beauty of Colorado, Sammy took us to Evergreen Lake for an afternoon walk. What we didn't anticipate was this place being a hotspot for local residents and tourists to check out (not that we weren't also lumped into those categories). By some stroke of luck, Sammy scoped out a parking spot and we got to experience something more than a walk around a lake. We headed towards the main house and there was a bunch of people milling about due to being pulled out of the water due to potential lightning strikes. On top of that, the house on the lake was closed for a special event. That may explain the amount of people in the park. Anywho, we were there for a walk and that's what we headed out to do. The trail around the lake is 1.25 miles and every step was just breathtaking scenery after breathtaking scenery. At about the halfway point, we started to head into an area with a bridge and a waterfall. This place was extra breathtaking due to the waterfall being an unexpected welcome on a lake. As we headed further on the trail, we heard music and decided to investigate. We wound up at a bar called Cactus Jack's Saloon & Grill. I don't plan on reviewing that place but we did stop in for a few beers and some of the most delicious nachos I had in a long time. While we sat, there was a lovely creek running along the bar that made sitting outside a preferred place than inside. Once we got done eating, we hit the rest of the trail and it's just more and more of beautiful views and lush greenery. I could've gone for another stroll around the trail/lake if time allowed but we had a beer festival to attend later this day so we hit the road again to prepare for that. I've done a lot of outdoors stuff and seen a lot of what mother nature has to offer but it never gets old taking in her beauty. If you've never experienced Colorado or the moutains... do yourself a favor and add it to your Bucket List.

Yelp
Nice scenery. Easy walk trail along the lake but we couldn't do it because it was too cold for us (yes it's summer but cold by the lake). We didn't dress properly.

Yelp
What an amazing "add to our bucket list day" the journey started out on hwy 70 to Evergreen as we neared, traffic came to a complete stop. A heard of Elk, Deer we casually strolling across the Hwy. a pack of about 40. We knew this was a good choice for our journey. We arrived at the park/lake **all were dog on leash friendly. There are a few trails to choose. The best take you to a waterfall. Folks were playing with their dogs, kids were playing and laugh. When it warms up, there are water activities to do on the lake. Imagine: Just 20 minutes from our home, are these cabins, parks, lake **And the best part: Evergreen Golf Course, we had been told is was amazing. Elk, Deer just walk through the course. Watching the players enjoy themselves, I know we will be back. Just a wonderful family kinda day.

Yelp
Loved it! The park by lake house has a parking lot and then you can walk either side. The only bummer is that there's a disconnect and you have to walk a part in the street.

Alisa J.

Yelp
Pretty trail around the lake! It was a easy and pleasant walk. We got to see the lake and views from all sides and the walk into town was nice too! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Lesson learned, we visited the lake yesterday on a Sunday and Father's Day. It was extremely crowded. Usually, it is a relaxing walk around the lake, however, this was not possible due to part of the path being blocked, due to the protection of wildlife which is ok. Cons: Not allowed to park in the main lot or allowed to look for a spot. A teenager was redirecting traffic with no explanation and no signage stating why. Public restrooms were locked and outhouses were filthy and overflowing. I looked into paddle boarding, but there is a fee. Informed it is 10 per vessel Monday through Thursday and 15 for Friday through Sunday, and this is if you bring your board. I observed for about 30 minutes that the majority of those paddleboarding simply walked past the fee station and did not pay, so it is not enforced. Might visit this lake again as usually there is a lot of wildlife and it is an easy and relaxing walk, but not on the weekend. Or maybe Colorado is starting to burst with the newbies moving here.

Yelp
Had such a wonderful walk around the lake today. Sadly 1/2 of it was not accessible for construction but we talk a dog here for a long walk and it was great. Super breezy by the lake so next time I'd advise a jacket since it gets cold. Can't wait to come back here and walk around again. It was so beautiful. The earlier the better for less crowds.

Rich S.

Yelp
Beautiful, small lake just off the highway. Plethora of wildlife to admire. For the birdwatchers, they keep a daily/monthly log of all the various species seen and in what number. Pretty cool. Well maintained paths and wooden walkways make for a very easy and enjoyable walk around the entirety of the lake (and it's only a 20 yd detour to the town, halfway through your walk!). Fun. Cheers! RS

Yelp
I was excited to walk around the lake one night when we returned early from dinner in Boulder only to find that half the trail is closed down and blocked off now for some improvements to it. The trail is very pretty otherwise but the main parts of it are closed off.

Yelp
This is a scenic, peaceful lake that makes for a gorgeous stop on a fun drive from Morrison, CO up through a curvy road that reaches Evergreen, CO (where you'll see the lake trail on the left side after you pass the "downtown" area). You can resume your loop trip by driving north toward I-70, which will bring you east to Denver. If you're in Denver for a business trip and do not have enough time to explore the wilderness areas of Colorado, this short loop drive will give you a taste of natural splendor less than 1 hour from Denver.

Emily C.

Yelp
This is a beautiful, easy little trail. I head up here with the dog for a loop while my clothes are on the dryer cycle at Cozy Cleaners down the street. The dam is gorgeous, and the little park area they installed there makes it so welcoming and fun to hang out in. The trail around the lake is pretty flat, and there are garbage cans everywhere--use 'em! I love the trees at the south and west ends of the lake. So many fishing lures stuck in the trees. Blows for the environment, but it makes it look like Christmas year round! This lake is an active place all times of the year, and you are almost sure to see some cool bird or some elk here. Love it.

Camille B.

Yelp
For me it is one of the best trail I ever been. Every morning we'd go there and it has the perfect view of the lake, mountains & lake house. When you are lucky you may encounter wild animals as well which I had many times. The only bathroom is only the one at the lake though.

Jeanie N.

Yelp
Loved it, gorgeous! I miss the lakes in and around Chicago. This was such a pretty lake & trail. Pretty easy to walk & enjoy the scenery. Great for walks alone, with your dogs or significant other. Just a pretty and serene area. Picnic tables in the area, if you would like to pack a lunch or snacks.

Bridget B.

Yelp
Oh my, this entire place is just beautiful. We did not walk the trail due to having little ones with us and it was pretty cool ( low 60's) compared to the last few weeks. Will be back to accomplish that pretty soon though. There's a ton of small shops and restaurants in the area to replenish the lost calories :). Beautiful place, will be even better in the warm sunshine. Enjoyed the drive there from Denver as well. Get out the city and recharge your batteries. You won't be sorry.

Holly B.

Yelp
Great walk. Ice skating and ice hockey when the lake is frozen over. Lots of elk out here. Hard to come And not see them. Also saw my First eagle while walking around the lake. If you're anywhere near the area, surely come through here before or after wandering the downtown area. Lots of hidden gems.

Aisha B.

Yelp
Visited this beautiful spot and loved the trail. Calm and serene. We stopped in early evening and it was quite empty, but we were still able to walk and enjoy the views.

Yelp
A short and picturesque drive from Denver is Evergreen Lake. Renting of paddle boats and bringing boogie boards here for some water fun is taken advantage of by those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Denver. There is a well kept trail that circles the entire lake where kids, furry friends, and adults enjoy the mountain views and sunny days. The walk is easily done and is flip flop friendly as the BF says. A few places to picnic or sit down along the path is an added convenience. You can easily complete the path in about an hour or a little longer depending how leisurely you like to stroll. I love having place like Evergreen so close to Denver. Little day trips to the surrounding areas are a lot of fun and can add some spice to a Holiday weekend.

Yelp
When I need a breath of fresh air I love to come walk by the Evergreen Lake Trail. This time as I walked by the damn a small herd of Elk were in the water hanging out. There are sculptures and gardens near the damn. They even have a pink porte potty on the lake trail. I haven't seen that one before. It's a great place to come for a walk. The Evergreen lake has fishing, paddleboat, canoe rentals and paddleboard rentals in the summer. It's a wonderful place to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the views. It's beautiful and I always love a peaceful walk around the beautiful Evergreen lake. (The part of the trail near the road is still damaged and closed due to the flood damage as of October 1st, 2013. Hopefully it reopens soon.

Yelp
what a beautfiul experience. This is what true nature is. out in the open west like it is.

Katie P.

Yelp
Love it ! We have a family go there multiple times a month . Such a clean air and sometimes we get to see animals crossing down to the lake

Evan M.

Yelp
Nice path though half of it has been closed for a while. There's no swimming in the lake for people or dogs. It's usually pretty busy as well and it can be hard to find parking
