It's a long story of how we ended up at the Evergreen Lodge this past week (heat wave, power outages, friends cancelling, etc!), but I can't express how grateful I am that we did! First, major props to the staff, who were absolutely amazing. On this trip we stayed at 3 different places, and the staff at Evergreen was far and away the more hospitable, helpful, friendly, and generous. It's clear they love being at this place and welcoming guests. Shout out to Brian W at the desk, Mike at the pool bar, the GM whose name I forgot (married to Kristin), and Kristin the guest chef :-)
We stayed in the "custom camping" area where there was a tent already set up with provided mattresses, sleeping bags, pillow + pillow case, towels, and extra blanket. They also gave us a lantern, and there was a bear box to store our food (though no cooking allowed - we just had snacks). The bathrooms in the camping area were really nice and clean (much nicer than Curry Village or typical camping bathrooms). The mattresses were surprisingly comfortable for sleeping on the ground! The sleeping bags were a bit scratchy but everything was really clean. My kids liked the camping experience and I was grateful we didn't have to figure out setting up a tent or all the other work of camping, haha. It was much more affordable than the cabins, and you are still a part of the lodge area as a whole, with access to pool, game rooms, dining, etc. There is excellent wifi throughout the property, and A/C in at least one of the buildings where we could hang out (it was 90* when we were there). Apparently their power grid + generators has prevented them from experiencing power outages that the nearby town had.
The location is fairly remote - closer to Hetch Hetchy than Yosemite Valley, but the drive over to the valley was nice and you can't really get much closer from this side of the park. It would be a long day to go into the valley and back, but I would totally come to Evergreen just to stay at Evergreen! The prices are a bit high, especially for food, but the quality was good, so I guess you get what you pay for!
