"In and of itself, kayaking is a perfectly lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon. But when you factor in caves, sea lions, dolphins, sea turtles, gray whales, a famous fault line, and masses of docile leopard sharks, “perfectly lovely” becomes “awe-inspiring,” as you’ll discover during a tour of the La Jolla Ecological Reserve with guides from local shop Everyday California. Mind you, not all the animals are guaranteed to show: You’re likeliest to see La Jolla’s famed leopard shark aggregations in the second half of the year, and the gray whale migration from mid-December through April. Still, on any given outing, dolphins could be swimming under you as a sea turtle bobs alongside you and a sea lion pops onto your bow. You’ll also visit the fabled seven sea caves, which include the Clam (the one you can paddle through) and Sunny Jim’s (where the local lore involves everyone from bootleggers to L. Frank Baum). Just east of the White Lady—a cave named for an ill-fated 19th-century honeymooner—you’ll see another La Jolla phenomenon: the Rose Canyon Fault line, exposed in a beachside cliff. Tack snorkeling on to your trip, and you’ll swim with marigold-hued garibaldi, shovel nose guitar fish, and many other colorful characters. Pro tip: Private tours aren’t advertised, but full buyouts are available if you’d rather sail solo—or with your own exclusive crew."

We went in the kayak cave tour and had an amazing time. Our guide, Cat, was extremely knowledgeable about the various sea life in the area, underwater ecosystems, history of the caves, and topography of the area. We felt safe with her guiding along the trip. Our group varied in age from teen to grandparents no one struggled to paddle into and out of the ocean. Cat had several stopping points along the way. The stops were perfectly planned and provided a brief rest from paddling and moments to enjoy the peacefulness of the sea. The cave was beautiful! Definitely the highlight of the trip! We want to come back again for a snorkeling trip!

We were expecting a good time, but this tour went way beyond that. The kayaking was such a cool experience — exploring the caves, spotting sea lions up close, and seeing all kinds of marine life under the water. It was all just really fun from start to finish. Sophia and Alex were awesome guides! They were very kind, helpful, and full of great info. Can’t wait to do it again!

Wow! What a lovely experience doin the kayaking and snorkeling through these guys. So that area in La Jolla is FILLED with snorkeling/kayaking shops. I had a chance to look into all of them and I thought that this place was the best. The other ones seemed very touristy and over crowded. This place was cute because its also a surf shop that has great clothing and the vibes/staff are much more laid back, which I prefer. The kayaking and snorkeling part was amazing. I was lucky to get two great guides, COLBY and PHIA. I recommend them! I was doing the experience solo and Colby asked if he could jump on my kayak and I said absolutely. He made the experience so lovely, funny and interesting! Both Colby & Phia were also VERY knowledgeable about local wild life as well. They are apparently the only shop in town that is required to also learn about the wild life, next to their first aid+ I very much recommend taking this experience, renting a wetsuit (trust me) and if you want to take your phone, carry it in a fanny pack (pro tip) - you can buckle it onto alot of things. Overall, 10/10 - Such a fun time to kayak and see all the fishies and sea lions by the cove!

Google
5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had the best experience on the Everyday California kayak tour! Our guides, Liza and Sophia, were incredible, super knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely fun to be around. They made the whole group feel comfortable, whether it was your first time in a kayak or not. They gave clear instructions, shared cool facts about the marine life and caves, and kept things lighthearted the whole time. We felt safe but also like we were on an adventure. You could tell they both love what they do, and their energy made the tour even better. The views were unreal, the water was perfect, and the sea lions definitely stole the show. If you’re thinking about booking, do it and hope you get Liza and Sophia. They made the whole thing unforgettable.

Bestie and I (2 ladies) did the Sea Cave Kayak tour in late May in a tandem kayak. Lockers available (wish we had known this beforehand, $12 for the day) First off, ocean kayaking is not like lake kayaking. No ramp or easy entry, you will get wet up to your waist. The paddle to the cave isn't terrible, totally doable even with 1 mediocre paddler or just 1 and a beginner. Cave can be tricky if swells come through. Your cave visit is very limited and the wait can be a bit as there are 3 other companies doing it. But this leaves you time to see the basking seals, sea lions and pelicans. The paddle back was trickier for us and then getting back to shore you a very likely to get flipped, but it's waist deep and can be very refreshing. Overall was a great adventure, tour guides were informative and fun. I would go with a towel to share and a complete change of clothes.

Google
Fantastic tour today with Kaya & Veronica - sun and crystal clear water - dolphins, sea lions, gariboldi fish, leopard sharks and a great visit to the sea caves.

Google
We had booked a reservation online- then there was an earthquake- so I called to make sure we were still good- we were- we had two of the best guides Jono and Josiah- very fun guides we did the kayaking La Jolla caves- we saw dolphins and which was really cool - it’s a lot of paddling so be prepared to be exhausted after- also understand they bring you in one cave which is on the video not a bunch of caves overall it was a great experience

Google
Mac was such a wonderful and supportive guide for our snorkeling tour this morning! I’d definitely recommend her and Everyday California for snorkeling or kayaking tours around La Jolla. All the staff was wonderful, helpful, and kind and made it such a great experience (even with the water being around 60 degrees)!

Yelp
Went on a kayaking tour on christmas eve with my family and had a great time! (Shoutout katalinas cormorant mating dance)

Yelp
Amazing Experience I've always wanted to try kayaking in the caves. So I was beyond excited when I found Groupon tickets for this ! I've never kayaked before and am so grateful they offer tours with guides to help you along the way. We had the awesome Kaston and Sophia. They remained calm, confident, helpful and cracked a few jokes during our tour. They explained everything clearly and were overall so cool. We got to tour the caves and it was so beautiful. Even learned a few new facts about the area. Sophia helped a few of the people from our group when they flipped over and she celebrated everybody at the end saying "we all survived!! Great job everybody" . It was way more of a workout than I anticipated and I also didn't realize how nervous I would be But I would totally do it again and bring my family next time! It was easy to book online and see availability. They also offer snorkeling and paddle board too. I like that they even offer 20% off for anyone that returns which is pretty cool Great deal on Groupon I'm not sure their exact rates.

Yelp
Born and raised in So Cal, had no idea the caves, and kayak tours, was a thing here. We booked a 2 hour kayak tour through Everyday California, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lauren was our guide, and took good care of us. She was knowledgable and gave us some unknown history about the area, the ocean and species. We saw some stingrays and fish, and got to go into the caves and experience lots of sea lions. Overall the tour is pretty is easy, even for the most beginner of kayakers. The difficulty is pretty low as well. Single kayaks seem to be the way to go, we opted for three singles instead of a single and one double. Everyone can go at their own pace. Would highly recommend the tour, and Everyday California.

Yelp
Came here with my best friend and son and had a blast kayaking and snorkeling. We saw leopard sharks in the water while we were kayaking out to the snorkel spot but didn't see any once snorkeling which was kind of a bummer but the kelp forest and bright orange fish we did see made it for a fun time. After kayaking getting back in the boat is a bit tricky but manageable especially if you are a single rider. My son and I were in a double kayak which was fun but a bit difficult getting propulsion as rowing should be synchronized between the two rowers. Got a blister on my finger from rowing but it was fine. The water is definitely colder than other places we've been but this is California Pacific and that is to be expected. Along with admission, expect to pay additional money for wetsuits and snorkel gear rental. The tour guides are friendly and request but do not require tips. Overall, the experience was either a 4 or 5 but the service was great so it's a 5! .

Yelp
Great experience for a great price. The tour was a great length but didn't feel too long so had an amazing time. Our instructor, Trevor, made the experience even for enjoyable and super knowledgeable about La Jolla and its history. 10/10 will do again.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying that the amazing customer service from leadership begins at the top and is shown consistently all the way down to the storefront staff. I cannot sing their praise enough. From booking the tour, to check in, and the tour itself. Everything was extremely high quality, and they definitely prioritized the safety of our group which was important because we had kids. We felt safe and looked after by Lauren and Reed the whole time on the water. Besides the tour itself, interacting with Devin in the shop really made an impact on our experience. She was thrilled to have us doing the tour and made sure all of the kids in our group were well taken care of. She went above and beyond. We had a slight hiccup with a couple of waivers and her front staff immediately got on it assisting us in the best way possible so that we could streamline the process in a more efficient manner. And they had no problem doing it! It was really amazing to see the teamwork not only among them, but with their customers as well. Also, i want to point out that the owner is really involved in the community working with nonprofits around San Diego, doing his part to provide access to water sports for underserved communities, which not a lot of business' can say. So cool. Highly highly recommend them and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Me and the girls had an awesome time kayaking with this crew. Originally I was looking through another platform, but the shop reached out to me and made the booking process seamless. Great customer service! They do an awesome job explaining the ecology and educating on the importance of us taking care of our environment. Our group got to see dolphins, fish, and sea lions. We checked out the caves, and the level of professionalism was stellar, even in instances when collaborating with other kayak tours in the area. My friends felt safe and attended to for the entire trip. For anyone considering booking, this is the company to go with! Thank you!

Yelp
I had such an amazing experience kayaking in the ocean for the first time. It was harder than expected due to the unpredictable waves. Be aware that you will get wet during this activity, I suggest renting the wetsuits they offer, because I regretted the drive back home due to being cold and soaked. Although I would definitely do this again. It was very fun and the views were amazing. We had two really good guides, Trevor and Danielle. They provided many interesting facts and made many jokes throughout the trip. They made the experience even better with their amazing personalities. Book your next kayaking trip with Everyday California!

Yelp
We found this company on Groupon offering a great deal for two hours of kayaking, so we decided to give it a try. However, we didn't read the fine print, which stated that we could only use the Groupon during the 9, 10, and 11 AM slots, while we had planned to go at noon. To make matters a bit trickier, they only allowed three Groupons per hour, so our big group couldn't all go out together. Despite these hiccups, we had a wonderful time! The kayaks, paddles, life jackets, and helmets were all in great shape, and lockers were available on-site. Our group of ten double kayaks had two guides, but since we were spread out on the water, it was hard to hear what they were saying without a PA system. Still, we made the most of it, enjoying the water, the beautiful scenery, and for the price, it turned out to be a solid deal!

Yelp
This tour was amazing! Robbie helped my mom back to shore when she wasn't feeling well! Robbie helped me reconnect with the rest of the group. And after that Darby kept his cool after an adult male harbor seal strutted his stuff near my kayak and one other while Darby was in the water! These are professionals!

Giselle S.

Yelp
Kaya was our tour leader and she is great! I was nervous heading into the water but she reassured me and the group that she is a pro at her job and will do everything in her power to keep us safe while having fun. You can tell she is very passionate about her job and loves the ocean. Her enthusiasm and joy radiates and was greatly received by everyone in the group. Me and my partner paid for wet suits in fear of getting our clothes wet or flipping over into the water but it wasnt really needed. The price is worth the experience as your payment is donated to help preserve sea life and so on. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Yelp
We used a Groupon for the sea kayaking tour. Jack and Robbie were great guides and it was a super organized outfit. We elected to get wetsuits and that made for a very comfortable trip. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great Kayaking trip and the 2 tour guides were awesome!!! Thank you Kenzie and Danielle for making this a fun experience

Yelp
Did the kayak sea cave tour and it was so fun! Shout out to our tour guides Trevor and Reed who were amazing and incredibly informed. Wish we got to go into more caves (we went into 1 and it was super cool! Great 90 minute history lesson + workout all in one! My favorite part was seeing the sea lions. After taking the tour you also get discounts on rentals, future tours, and anything in their gift shop! Really good value for what you pay for - would recommend to anyone to do.

Yelp
I went on a whale watching kayak tour with Everyday California and it was worth it! They have all the gear you need to be comfortable and provide great information on the tour. I learned so much about the wildlife and area in general. The tour guides also had so much personality! While I didn't get to see any migrating whales, we were greeted by so many common dolphins! It was so awesome to see them up close! I would definitely take another tour with this group - it was well worth the money for a two hour tour! Thank you!

Yelp
Catalina & dan were our tour guides for the kayaking and snorting ! and they were so amazing ! i'm 7 months pregnant and they were kind caring and compassionate! super helpful and when we got done snorkeling dan helped me back into my kayak! i enjoyed the kayaking and snorkeling, i got to see a turtle which isn't something everyone gets to see! the end was a bit funny when our kayak flipped on our way back to shore. 10/10 enjoyed this experience! definitely worth the money since we did do it for our anniversary

Yelp
First time surfing and booked the Surfing School Group Lesson with my daughter. Had the best day ever. Mariano was our instructor. You need to ask for him directly. He took care of us on our first time. We each caught some waves. I highly recommend this school. Check groupon for cheap and affordable deals at everydag CA surf school group lessons.

Yelp
Super fun tour of La Jolla with great guides. Trevor and Kaitlin were very knowledgeable about the area. We even saw dolphins!
google avatar

Yelp
As San Diego natives we decided to play tourist go check out every day California's La Jolla Cave kayak tour. We had such an amazing experience our tour guides. Spencer and Lauren were super knowledgeable and very friendly. we were lucky enough to find a Groupon ticket so we got a great price on our tour. And with all of the other adventures and tours that they offer I think we'll definitely come back.
google avatar

Bing L.

Yelp
My family took their sea cave kayak tour with Danielle and Charlie. They were both very knowledgeable about the various micro ecosystems in the area. The location was amazing with very calm almost waveless water. We saw dolphin, sea lions, and a harbor seal. A great experience

Kam S.

Yelp
So deceiving!!! January 2025. Even though it says it's a Sea Cave tour, they haven't actually been in the sea caves in a while. The water is always "too rough". Guide did not explain what the plan was, where we would be going. You basically pay a bunch of money, get on these wet slimy wetsuits, walk several blocks down to the water. Get in the kayaks, go out and have the guide talk to you about random facts. We thought we were going to see the Sea Lions on the rocks, but can't get close enough to see them. Did see a few in the water. Paddle back and you get to walk back freezing cold in your wetsuit. No warm showers or anything. Do not recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
We purchased the Kayak tour and was worth the money. The two ladies that was our tour guides provided good information related to La Jolla coves and caves. We will come back to Everyday California for our next another adventure. Thanks

Yelp
I love this place Brendon Kenzie and Kaitlin really were so helpful they were so kind and got me out of depression I would come back again

Yelp
We were gifted an "Airbnb experience" for this place and it turned out to be a great outing for us! One of our first time kayaking and it was beautiful. The tour with Brody was fun and quite insightful as well. Well definitely recommend this to others and come back soon ourselves as well!

Yelp
Awesome place!!! Great gear. Wonderful customer service !! Definitely would come back!!!

Yelp
Went on a kayak tour last weekend and it was fun to play tourist! What I mean is normally I would rent my own kayak and explore, but instead I handed over the control (and responsibility) to Everyday California Kayaks. My friend and I took the cave tour in La Jolla along with 16 other tourists. Guided by Ana and Brody, we made it to the caves with an easy paddle. I'm glad we didn't guide ourselves because it was foggy and I had no idea which direction to go. They made getting in & out of the surf so easy. Along the way we took breaks and they talked about the different oceanic ecosystems found in the cove. They also told stories about the cove's history, (a bootlegging operation out of one of the cave, a house falling to the sea) I haven't fact checked those yet but they were at least entertaining! When one novice kayak flipped the boat 5 minutes in to the paddle, they were patient and helpful to get them back on board. We felt a bit like herded sheep when we reached the cave. There are multiple tours operating, so you have to take turns. They seem pretty good at shuffling everyone in and out safely, without damaging the natural areas. Lots of wildlife; sea lions, bright orange garibaldi you could see from the surface, molted lobster skins, and tips for how to find other creatures like leopard sharks! Overall a very fun time. Make sure you bring pants you can get soaked. Also a waterproof case for your phone, or else they'll get you with the $25 one in store (like they did with me!) The guides have a lot to do already, so we got pictures of ourselves in the boat by trading airdropped photos with another member of the tour ;)

Yelp
Was there on 5/25/24, and was with a group of 9. Everything we had to do from check-in to check-out was a breeze as the staff helps you thru the process. Our tour guides were Garrett & Katelyn and they were nothing but kind, helpful and professional. Safety is the name of the game and they were all over it. The tour is fun, the work is a 6 1/2 on a scale of 1-10. The challenge is to get past the beach waves without getting tossed off, and the same for getting back to shore. Rest assured, you will get wet but it's all worth it. Leave EVERYTHING in your locker or it will become property of the ocean. If you have sunglass straps , you should be fine. This was my first try kayaking, and I felt safe throughout the tour. I ate it coming back to shore and, even that was fun. There are plenty of staff around to assist you. Try it, it's a blast!
google avatar

Kendall M.

Yelp
My husband and I booked a double kayak through Groupon (only $39!) and had a BLAST! The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the views were superb. Our highlight was getting to see the sea lions and seals up close-- some even swam around our kayak! The only other wildlife we saw were fish, but we still just loved being on the water. We went first thing in the morning so the water was very calm-- I could even bring my phone without much risk. Would definitely recommend going at that time! We also loved just being on our own rather than being with a tour group; we couldn't go in the caves, but loved having the freedom to to our own thing:) Would def recommend doing this!
google avatar

Joel T.

Yelp
Being a beach local, I didn't think I would enjoy a tour, but I was totally wrong. We had a great time, and the staff was terrific. Everything was well planned out, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone.
google avatar

Helen B.

Yelp
Great local spot in La Jolla for kayaking. I've gone two years in a row and they're pretty awesome. The only recommendation I'd make is that they do a safety talk beforehand as a couple fell in who were in a double kayak and the employee / guide didn't get out of her kayak to help but instead I helped since I was closer and am very comfortable in the water. Not a huge deal but went white water rafting in Breckenridge recently and they do a full safety talk beforehand and I think this place should as well. Waters are pretty calm but it's easy to tip over if you're not paying attention! We had a great time regardless.
google avatar

Nadeaja S.

Yelp
We've now gone on two excursions with Everyday California and both were so stellar! The kayaking tour is a good balance of fun and learning experiences in the moment. Out in that open water with the sea life below you as you kayak towards the caves is such a beautiful break from the rest of the world. Our tour guides did a phenomenal job of maintaining safety, exploring curiosities of the group, and brightening up the tour with their kindness and enthusiasm. The surf lesson with Robbie was epic! His patience, excitement, and willingness to create an encouraging learning space is top notch. All around great energy! The lesson was the perfect amount of guidance with motions on land and then straight into the water to practice. Thank you Everyday California for creating such a dope Team of folx!
google avatar

Reyna P.

Yelp
I recently took a surf lesson with Everyday California and had an absolute blast! The whole experience, from booking to catching waves, was fantastic. My instructor, Chris H., deserves a huge shoutout. He was incredibly helpful throughout the entire lesson. It was tough, but Chris's patience kept me going! His clear instructions and positive attitude encouraged me to keep trying (after every fall, lol). If you're looking to learn to surf in San Diego, I can't recommend Everyday California enough!
google avatar

Jim H.

Yelp
Really great kayak tour out to the caves with Cat and Jack. We had a great time. Then stopped back for some awesome merch!! We'll be back!

Mi H.

Yelp
We had a fun time. We had Brody & Jono as our guides & they were great to us. We felt safe being out there with them even the waves were big. I didn't know how to swim and I was nervous, wanted to back out as first, but didn't want to let my kayak partner down so I went for it. I'm glad I did & I had so much fun. Will definitely try again

Victor V.

Yelp
Great all around experience. Ours guides were amazing! I believe their names were Dalton and Catalina. This was my brother and my third time going, first and second times for the others in our group. Weather was perfect while we were out. I will definitely be back for a forth trip at some point. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Chad C.

Yelp
Kenzie and Veronika did an amazing job guiding us on our snorkeling adventure. They taught us everything we needed to know about safe snorkeling. Told us some fun facts about the animals and made sure we saw everything we wanted to see such as: the orange CA state fish, guitar fish, lobsters, and even some leopard sharks! Highly recommend this adventure and would totally go again.
google avatar

Clay C.

Yelp
Everyone was so pleasant. Even though we were part of a group we felt like we were getting personal attention. Our guides Brodie and Reed were awesome.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
We had so much fun. Great instructors! Trevor and Chris made it fun and made surfing accessible. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Really, really couldn't recommend them more!
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
Sophia & Alex were awesome tour guides! We were able to experience seals swimming around our kayak while we explored the caves! Beautiful encounter!
google avatar

Marie D.

Yelp
We came in looking for rash guards for our kayaking tour and everyone we met from the moment we walked in was super helpful and friendly.
google avatar

Mike J.

Yelp
If you love the ocean and appreciate nature this is a must adventure. Great experience. Fun exciting and Mia and Makenzie were very friendly and helpful. All of their staff were patient and nice for us first timers. Parking in the area not good give yourself extra time to park. Equipment was good I felt safe with the helmet and life jackets. Kayak was well taken care of. I went with my kids 9/11/15/17. My 17 year old and myself tipped over. My 11 and 13 year old made it in and out without tipping over in the Kayak. So be ready to get wet. Don't take anything you wouldn't mind losing or getting wet. I had fun.
google avatar

Maya K.

Yelp
Such an amazing experience!! We did the sea cave kayak tour and our guides, Brody & Bianca, were so knowledgeable and made the experience really fun. If you are nervous at all, know that you'll be in great hands and that the crew takes your safety seriously. If you are contemplating booking your own kayak vs a tour, I highly recommend taking a tour. Well worth the price! Can't get better than Everyday California, especially if you get lucky enough to take your tour with Brody & Bianca!

Samantha H.

Yelp
Great kayak tour! Super fun and they get you everything you need! Will do again! Jono was the GREATEST!!
google avatar

Matty J.

Yelp
Great service, friendly staff. Tremendous tour of the La Jolla sea caverns and local wildlife. Who knew La Jolla boasted the largest population of leopard sharks. Relax, they are bottom feeders with mouths the size of quarters. Easy paddle out and in. Great swag at the shop in case you forgot anything, you can rent a locker as well. Right along the same street for good eats and dranks.
google avatar

Kim M.

Yelp
SO MUCH FUN! My husband and I went on a kayak tour today and we loved it. Jack and Darby were fantastic guides. I had no idea we would learn so much about the history and ecology of the area. Great experience. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Cynthia L.

Yelp
I just went on the kayak sea caves tour today! Our reservation was at 10am. It is best to come 30 minutes before your reservation to check in, get your gear rentals, and wait for your tour guide. We just opted in getting the life jacket and helmet. It was still pretty cold out/ cloudy so wet suits are recommended. Our tour guides were Robbie and Brody! They are two amazing tour guides and are super helpful navigators. We were super lucky on this tour and saw a bunch of wildlife! We saw a leopard shark, neon orange fish, and dolphins!! It is super rare to see dolphins and we were very fortunate!!

Dale S.

Yelp
Great time kayaking with Trevor! Although we were not able to enter the caves, he ensured we all enjoyed ourselves.
