Evil Genius

So many vegetarian options on the menu. The share platters we tried were delicious. The plated cocktail I had was delicious, will definitely be coming back.

We recently had our midwinter Coworking lunch here, 23 of us with a mixture of dietary requirements. The set menu was great, cocktails on point and the service were superb. The expansion into the larger event space has really made the space amazing, love all the hanging plants!

We visited this location for the first time, loved the atmosphere and the venue looked like it would be great for a wedding or special event. Our waitress was lovely, I didn't catch her name but she was very helpful and knowledgeable. The food was good, perhaps not great - we had the Pork Belly Fried Rice and the EFC (Evil Fried Chicken). These were both "large" (perhaps standard is a more suitable description), and at $26 and $28 respectively. The chicken was lovely and hot, but the salt seasoning, I think the Chef went too heavy and there were a few pieces where my mouth burned as the salt was too strong. Unfortunately, there were a few "out of" meals so our choices were limited for the "large" options. Unsure at this stage if we would re-visit, given there are many other asian-fusion options throughout Christchurch which offer "wow" factors

Been a few years since visited as not had great.experiences previously. This week was totally opposite. Brilliant food and service...cocktails and wine...water glasses were tiny but they left the bottle! Great asset to where we.live and will be back. Magic comes from that tiny kitchen. Fried chicken and curry were outstanding and dumplings were pretty amazing too

Even though the fried chicken wasn’t the best as other customers mentioned, it was still good overall. The sauce for the fried chicken was great. The cocktail was excellent

I invited a few of my closest friends over for some delicious drinks and bites—and that’s exactly what we got! Most of my mates have never been to Evil Genius and it was such a treat to all of us to simply relax, chat, and enjoy amazing food and service. Before we knew it, we were the last ones left in the restaurant—and the team graciously let us enjoy our evening without any pressure to leave. The hospitality was truly outstanding! *Also, as a bit of a Bloody Mary enthusiast, I have to say—that was one bloody good Mary!

Unfortunately, it was too good to be true. What started off as the best fried chicken both my fiancé and I have ever eaten. With the rest of the food tasting equally divine, we were unfortunately let down by the service. With our reservation at 6:30pm, and order in by 6:45pm. I unfortunately after an hour and a half (8:10pm) decided that it was too late to carry on waiting and went to sort the bill and leave. When I got to the counter I told them in a polite manner that I’d been waiting an hour and a half for the food and that we are just going to leave instead. They said it’s coming now, I said I’ll just get it take away. They packed it in a take away bag and I paid for the complete order, I did mention to the reception staff (after paying) that I was temped to not even pay for that part of the meal, to which they replied I probably good have taken that off the bill. Which I then replied well I guess it’s too late now. And proceeded to leave. Unfortunately underwhelming.
