This hotel is located in the Granary district. As an out of state visitor, I'm not sure what that means but it's good to know. There's lots of industrial styled cafes, bars, restaurants, even photography studios nearby. It's also very close to the highway, which was one of the things that attracted us. It was also only a ten minute drive from the place we visited so that was another perk.
Many reviews mentioned the lack of parking but we didn't find that to be an issue. Coming from California we're used to street parking in busy areas. When we arrived it was after 10pm. People were leaving and we had no problem getting parking almost directly in front of the hotel entrance.
**They do ask for a $100 damage and incidentals deposit. If you don't have anything charged to your room and don't take the in room water, it is returned at checkout.**
Check in time was 3pm but we called in advance to mention we'd be arriving late. They said it wasn't a problem. The check-in process was smooth and after asking a few questions, we borrowed the luggage cart and unloaded the car.
I believe all of the rooms are on the second floor so we used the elevator. We passed an open lounge area where people were on their devices in comfy looking chairs and easily found our room.
The plaque next to the door had our room number very large font and braille, which was cool. There was also mention of the artist that painted the art in our room. This was a pleasant surprise and appreciation of art, which we loved.
The room itself had a really cool feature...the lights wouldn't come on until you placed your key card in the card holder. A great energy saving technique! The room was a good size. It fit two beds, a nightstand, a TV, landline phone, chair, coffee table and more. Unfortunately, our room did not have a microwave or refrigerator. (When I initially asked the front desk, on the phone prior to our arrival, they said some rooms had microwaves and fridges but not all).
Not having a microwave was tough since we didn't plan on eating out the entire trip and brought a cooler. Fortunately the front desk told us about the community microwave next to the vending machine, which we used.
Our cooler quickly thawed it's ice packs and prepackaged ice during our long drive from California. Unfortunately there was not an individual ice machine specifically for guests, but the front desk told me about requesting ice from the bar and the cafe, which we did.
The bathroom and room was clean. There was also shampoo, conditioner and body wash available.
Considering the amount of people using the connected bouldering gym, it was pretty quiet. Not loud or rowdy. We loved the decorations throughout the hotel and the photo booth downstairs near the check-in desk.
Overall, it's a very chill place. We made the reservation through a third party website. The hotel is very community friendly, and definitely has a lot of activities for outdoors, which SLC is known for. Based on the pictures on Expedia, I knew I wanted to try the climbing wall but it was not free. I received a text regarding a 25% discount. Honestly, we were busy most of our trip and when we returned to the hotel we were too exhausted to do the activities.
If you don't need a microwave or refrigerator in your room I'd say it's a good fit. Oh, they also have coolers available if you need one and they have bikes and equipment to rent. When it's busy in the bouldering gym it can smell pretty sweaty, so that was a little yuck. Also, there's no smoking allowed in the hotel but some people do smoke outside, in front of the hotel. Everyone was very kind. Thank you Mazi for checking us in. Thank you to the two girls who gave us ice and the guy who completed our checkout and gave us tokens for the photo booth. It was a nice visit.
