"Ewarts is in the middle of Gillett Square in Dalston, where the blasting of reggae and the cracking of tinnies are the perma-soundtrack. Ewart’s smoking drum is the fragrance. This is east London’s most legit jerk chicken. It’s rubbed dry, cooked fresh, and has that smokiness and crisp char that can’t be replicated. You’ll want the jerk chicken, wings, and the pork belly chunks for sure. Order, get a drink from the shop, and settle into a spot in the square." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley
"Like pubs, fish and chips, and fried breakfasts, many Londoners’ favourite Caribbean is based around geography. But there’s something special about Ewarts. It’s best to come to this Dalston hut early-ish, when the pork belly fat is rendered perfectly and the chicken legs are smoking fresh, and your meal is soundtracked by the reggaeton playing from Gillett Square." - daisy meager, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

"Ewarts is in the middle of Gillett Square in Dalston, where the blasting of reggae and the cracking of tinnies are the perma-soundtrack and Ewart’s smoking drum an always-deliciously welcoming smell. This is east London’s most legit jerk chicken. It’s rubbed dry, cooked fresh, and has that smokiness and crisp char that can’t be replicated. You’ll want the jerk chicken, wings, and the pork belly chunks for sure. When the fat’s rendered perfectly those chunks are the business. You won’t need or want anything else. The whole set-up is out of a shipping container so it’s takeaway only, but there are plenty of places to sit in the square and shops around to grab a drink." - jake missing
"Everything is a seat and/or potential dining table in the summer. A patch of grass, an unused market stall, a perfectly sized wall for leaning and nibbling on. You want to bear this in mind when you’re picking up jerk and patties and whatever else from Ewarts. Because what this Caribbean spot lacks in actual seating it more than makes up for in flavour. Bits to order: Jerk pork belly, wings, plantain" - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
