On This Under-the-Radar Island Off Sicily’s Northwest Coast, Turquoise Waters Meet Tuna Fishing Traditions | Vogue

"Built by the Florio family in 1859, the vast tuna-processing complex that transformed the tiny island into a major Mediterranean hub—once among the largest commercial centers in the region—closed in the 1980s; today, the former factory houses a museum dedicated to the enduring legacy of Favignana’s tuna industry." - Lindsay Cohn

Great visit, the place is beautiful and loaded with historical and cultural relevance. I loved the art installations as much as the insights provided by my amazing guide Lorella.

Great local history museum and an asset to the local community. The tuna fishery is still within living memory and you can sense that in the town. Some exhibits need a bit of refurb, but generally its well-maintained and of very high standards. I also was fascinated to see artefacts from the famous Punic War naval battle between the Romans and Carthaginians that took place off the shores of these islands which were found by scuba divers in the waters nearby.

Interesting museum centered around a former tuna fish processing factory. The whole island of Favignana was at one point owned by the Florio family, which owned the tuna processing facility and industry on the island. The Florio villa gives one a good idea of the wealth of the family at one time. All in all, the island, with its beautiful beaches and the ex Stabilimento Florio, is well worth a trip from Trapani via hydrofoil or regular ferry.

Amazing museum, formerly a factory packaging tuna. Warmly suggested to do the guided visit, as the guides are very well prepared on the factory working and history of the island!

Interesting buildings to wander around. Most information in Italian, so you may need Google Lens, etc. to translate. Some interesting archaeological items, quite a lot of information on the historical tuna business.

Amazing, worth the visit. It cost 10€ or 12€ with the combined ticket with the palace (only worth with this combined ticket... Not alone) Amazing, huge, lots of info... Super recommended

Amazing place! We enjoyed a 2hrs guided tour of the old factory without no extra cost (ticket was 6€), it was really cool! The guide explained us not only how the tuna cans were produced but also gave us some interesting hints about the Florio family! Definitely something worth the time while you’re in favignana

Nice information about the historical Tonnara in Favignana in it's canning factory. It's a pitty that all information is mostly in Italian language. At least English could be a valuable addition.
