The Best Hotels in Iceland, From Rural Lodges to Reykjavik Boutiques

"Somewhat hidden behind a popular burger spot, Exeter is an inconspicuous property that blooms into a textbook example of how cozy Scandinavian interiors can be. Its location in the Old Harbor is within walking distance of the downtown shops, restaurants, and bars, but offers a quieter place to retreat to at night. The rooms are outfitted in the same earthy tones as the rest of the property, with leather accents and spacious beds. One standout: The Harbour Suite is situated within sight of Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and the view is well worth it. Two of Reykjavik’s most popular spaces share a roof with Exeter. Prepare for a line out the door every morning as locals and visitors head to Deig, a go-to for breakfast sandwiches and doughnuts. The same area is shared with Le Kock, a burger joint with a delicious take on french fries. Booking through the property’s website will get you the best deal, especially if you plan on staying multiple nights."

We had a great experience. Our family was spread across 3 rooms. The rooms were comfortable and the staff was consistently excellent. The only negatives were outside noise (much better when windows were closed, it was just hot and there isn’t air conditioning virtually anywhere in Iceland) and a lack of lighting in the rooms. Beds were comfortable and showers were good. We booked directly with the hotel so the buffet breakfast was included which was great. Excellent location! Download the easy park app and find P2 parking nearby.

I absolutely love this hotel! The bed was very comfortable and the room was very spacious. The rooms were also very quiet and the staff were incredibly nice. The morning breakfast had a very wide range nutritious food which was very delectable. The sauna was great and the gym had a lot of equipment for usage. I would totally recommend going there. This has been my greatest hotel experience ever as everything was excellent. I will definitely come again!

Exeter Hotel is located in a prime spot, within walking distance to all the major downtown attractions. The breakfast at Le Kock is incredible and I also love the Deig doughnut shop. We stayed in both an economy room as well as a standard double. The economy room had an arguably nicer bathroom but the street-level window only opened slightly. The room was very, very warm. Our standard double had a Juliette balcony of sorts and the door swung wide open, allowing a much more pleasant temperature in the space. The staff was friendly and attentive, the hotel was very clean and we enjoyed the different spaces (gym, sauna, rooftop deck, greenhouse). Up the alleyway and behind the hotel are the cutest city streets to walk on. There are plenty of amazing restaurants nearby, shopping and whatever else you could want. We love this hotel.

What an amazing place to stay in Reukjavik! The hotel and rooms are fresh looking & impeccably clean. The staff is super helpful. The location is central with views of the harbor and an easy walk to all the local attractions and museums. The area is quiet and safe. The linens are good quality and the bed and pillows are supremely comfortable. The food is outstanding at both Le Kock & the breakfast counter. Exeter is THE PLACE to stay.

Front desk staff made the place. Very helpful and friendly people who attended to all of our needs. Our room was decorated beautifully for my birthday. The rooms were clean and small, but we only slept there. Great onsite restaurant and bakery. Food was delicious and helped us relax (since we didn’t have to go out and find food after a long night of flying). We enjoyed chatting with our breakfast hostess (from Poland) who seemed very genuine and friendly. Very close to downtown area. We’ll definitely return. Miss you already :(

We stayed two nights at the Exeter upon first arriving in Reykjavik. Parking a few blocks away wasn't horrible, and cost about $20 a day. The hotel is modern and stylish. The rooms were a tad dark, but were comfortable and had everything we needed! The morning breakfast was excellent, and we loved starting our mornings in the sunny cafe. We found the area to be walkable, though a bit on the edge of the action. I think for the cost, The Exeter is a great value!

Lovely hotel throughout. 5 star bakery, and very nice restaurant/bar. We opted for the breakfast with our room, highly recommend! Iceland is not cheap compared to UK prices so this was a good start to the day to fill up before heading out. Room was excellent. 5th floor has an awesome view of the harbour and mountain back drop. All staff were brilliant, very friendly and helpful. Thomas and David (on reception) deserve a separate mention. Really helpful, kind people. Our flight got cancelled and they extended our stay and swapped us into a new room when most of the rooms where unavailable due to multiple flight cancellations.

Nice hotel next to the harbor and close to downtown. Short taxi drive to the cruise port. Rooms were small but had what we needed for a short stay. Our bathroom had a terrible food smell odor which we reported but it never went away. Lobby and outdoor space was modern and comfortable. We loved the large breakfast and the attached cafe.
