An amazing dinner was had at the Salmon Bake. Make a reservation! The wait wasn't all that bad, but make a reservation. The food was excellent. I had the Gulf Captain's platter and my wife the King Crab. FANTASTIC. The corn bread was really good. The root beer and the cobbler, SOOO GOOD!! Sorry, but our waitress was just average. Not 5 stars and no 1 star. She was just average. Even with that, I would still go back.

We chose this place to eat from a recommendation given to us by a local worker at one of the adventure desks. The setting and the decor seemed so “ Alaskan” to us as we drove up and walked in. We went early (5:30ish) so we wouldn’t have to wait an hour or more like a couple places next to the docks. We were seated immediately, although it was full and busy when we left. Our server was bubbly and prompt and made our experience even better. I don’t typically care for salmon but was told fresh Alaskan salmon is unlike what we get back in Tennessee and Kentucky, so I gave it another try…WOW! How true..it was incredible and didn’t even need any sauce other than the seasoning from the kitchen. Then, equally as good if not better was the fresh halibut!!! Oh my! Possibly the best fish we have ever eaten, and we are a fish loving family! I highly recommend.

Overall decent experience here. Got the salmon bake, as it’s Seward and what they are apparently known for, and was disappointed. Definitely too dry and overall not very good salmon, especially for the price — it was fine and tasted good, but not what I was expecting in Alaska at this place! I would return but I would order something else — probably better at fried food or something here. Corn bread and chowder was great, atmosphere was cool, and service was good.

Google
Went here for dinner this evening and did not get disappointed. We had the baked salmon and the seafood pasta and both was amazing. Also, the service was really good and we were allowed to sit at any table besides what has been written in the reviews before. Maybe they considered the feedback. It was just a little cold in there, but they turned on the heating when we said something. Cost: 76 dollar without tip for 2 meals and one beer.

Google
I haven't had a meal like that in years. The atmosphere is the perfect blend of authentic alaska with a seafood restaurant twist. The service fast, friendly and fantastic. The seafood chowder was delicious as well as the crab cakes. The halibut fish and chips was the best ive ever had. The seafood pasta might be their best dish, my son loved it. The chocolate cake was unreal. The restaurants near the docks are ok if youre in a hurry, but Salmon Bake is minutes away and light years better. Thank you!

Google
I will put it on my must do when in Seward Alaska. Very eclectic very much are kind of jam. We ate all starters and the chowder and we were stuffed. We had the halibut bites, the crab cakes and each had a bowl of chowder and it was amazing.

Google
We ordered the fish and chips. But we got a baked potato and corn. The beer battered fish was over cooked and dry, the batter was not seasoned well. I had to salt and pepper my fish and add malt vinegar. For the price I was highly disappointed.

After three days of being disappointed with the quality of cooked fish along the Seward waterfront, we stumbled upon "The Salmon Bake" on our way to see the glaciers at Kenai Fjords National Park. This turned out to be the best seafood we had during our entire trip to Alaska. The baked salmon and halibut were cooked to perfection—juicy and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The customer service was excellent, adding to the overall great experience. Despite its unassuming exterior, the interior is surprisingly spacious, and they even have a full bar. Every penny we spent there was worth it. I’d give this place a 10 out of 5 if I could!

Yelp
Definitely not lousy!! I wish I got pictures of the food bc I enjoyed it sooo much! We got the Salmon Bake and Seafood Chowder. The Seafood Chowder soup was hearty, creamy, and warm. It was chunky with seafood. The Salmon Bake (honestly the BEST SALMON I'VE EVER HAD), had me mindblown with every single bite. I can't stop thinking about this fish. The taste, the freshness, everything about it! It was so delicious! There was lots of seating in this restaurant. We were served pretty quickly.

Yelp
Managed to get into Salmon Bake on Labor Day--their last open day of the season! I was with a group of five and they were able to seat us right away. The decor will give you something to talk about for sure...lots of interesting memorabilia. I ordered the broiled red snapper as I had had my fill of salmon and halibut this trip. It was a nice sized portion and well cooked. Hilariously they were running out of diverse side dishes (because it was their last night of the season), so I had beans and rice. Both were good. My friends enjoyed their dishes as well. Their draft beer list was good and I had their rotating tap which was a raspberry wheat. Very good, and a deal for Alaska at $6.50 a pint. Service was pleasant but a little slow. Definitely a place to eat in Seward.

Yelp
Restaurant was right across the street from our hotel in Seward. Stopped by for a drink in the bar and decided to stay for dinner. A couple of us got the fried halibut chunks and chips. Dish comes with slaw and tartar sauce. Halibut was lightly battered and perfectly fried. Others split the crab cake dinner with Brussels sprouts. Place is really unique. Looks like an old Alaska lodge with older stuff hung on the walls. Nice touch is the cornbread with the meal and a barrel of pickles to snack on. Our server was also the bartender and she did a great job.

Yelp
Just as the name implies - Salmon Bake - it's what's for dinner! This is a family friendly business as well as a great place for groups to eat. They are open from May to September during the busy tourist season. There's not a whole lot to do in Seward, but this is the exception. Give the Salmon Bake a try !!

Yelp
My son had butter pasta and salmon and ate it all. Very good. My husband had fish cakes which were good, a little bready. I ate salmon which was a large portion I could not finish. Skip the rice. It was not good. Also, I did not like the corn but my husband did. Neither of us finished the corn servings which were huge. The cornbread was tasty. The service was prompt/efficient. The ambiance is rustic. Not my style but they pull it off.

Yelp
Quirky place with mediocre food. In fact, their slogan is "cheap beer, lousy food", and I should have believed the food part. Cornbread (served before the meal) and pickle (comes with sandwiches/burgers, but you pick it out of a tub yourself) were the highlights. Seafood cakes were okay, but in coastal Alaska the expectations are higher than mediocre. The worst thing was the sides (weirdly seasoned corn, appeared like it had peppers in it?) and bland rice. The other sides options were baked beans and a baked potato- I really would have appreciated better options for sides. I got the sense that I might be in the southern US in this restaurant- country music, eclectic decor, and occasional cowboy boots. But the servers weren't particularly friendly, and it took 3 people debating about where to sit us in the half-empty restaurant to make a decision.

Yelp
Tasty seafood and friendly staff. The whole Ambience is great and fun. Had a very rustic feel

Yelp
This place is amazing and could not be in a more beautiful place. The food was great and plentiful. The people were friendly and helpful.

Yelp
The Salmon Bake serves far more than salmon! They have all kinds of seafood, and also steaks and burgers. It feels like true home cooking. Instead of "bar seafood" that is served fried and with French fries, this is prepared a bit more healthily and served with sides like corn, baked beans, baked potato, or rice. It was refreshing after all of the fried seafood we've been eating! I loved the seafood cakes--mixture of salmon, red snapper, and crab. The salmon was the best we have had on our Alaska trip, and we enjoyed the halibut too! Service was fairly quick, and the staff was friendly. It feels like a hole-in-the-wall, but those are the best kinds of places!

Yelp
Superb, fresh seafood that makes you feel like a true sailor on board ‍ We got the Captain's platter (sockeye salmon, red snapper, jumbo shrimp) and ordered halibut on the side. Plenty of food for two people with pretty high appetites. Food came out within 15-20 minutes and our waitress at the bar was delightful.

Yelp
Came here after a hike at Exit glacier. Rustic decor a bit overdone. Ordered the IPA and it was tasty. They serve cornbread with honey butter and it was a good starter. I had the namesake Salmon bake. It was a decent sized piece of salmon and had a nice glaze on it and was tasty. Decent service. We had a decent meal.

Yelp
SUCH A HUGE FAN OF THIS PLACE!! Out of all the salmon I had in Alaska, this place was my favorite! The salmon bake is AMAZING! The side selection is great. The halibut was also super light and delicious. The seafood pasta was another hit. The salmon salad was also delicious.

Derek L.

Yelp
The ambiance and service was great. The servers were attentive and very accommodating. The restaurant itself was inviting and cozy. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the food. Let's start off with the positives for the food. The crab cakes and the honey butter for the cornbread were good. The crab cakes had a nice, crunchy sear with a moist interior. Could use a bit more crab for what we paid, but it was acceptable. Though the cornbread was too dry and crumbly, the honey butter saved it. Moving on. For entrees, my family and I ordered the captains platter, the seafood pasta, and the caesar salad. Let's start with the captains platter. The fried halibut tasted like nothing. Also, both the batter and fish were tough. The fried shrimp was barely seasoned, but it did have a nice crunch. The salmon was completely devoid of salt, though the char was admittedly nice. Avoid the rice like the plague, as it was dry and undercooked. The beans were fine. Moving on to the pasta. The pasta itself was cooked fine, but the sauce lacked in flavor. I prefer store-bought jarred pasta sauce over this. The seafood was once again, devoid of salt. Saddest scallops I have had in my entire life. The caesar salad was fine. The sauce was a bit bland, but nowhere near as offensive as the other entrees. I feel genuinely robbed for the food quality we received, but again, the ambiance and service were the standouts. The food quality may have just been an anomaly and they could have just had a bad day, but it did not leave a good first impression.

Yelp
Summary: outstanding salmon bake dish lives up to its namesake, generally good value and quality food. Visit: 7/5/22 7:30 pm Pros: - Salmon bake dish is delicious with a lovely spice rub and grill marks. A little overcooked and dry for my liking but I think that's typical here. - Chocolate surprise (chocolate cake) dessert was good. - Captain's Platter was good value with salmon, battered shrimp, and battered halibut (pictured). - Seafood chowder was good. - Corn side had an interesting flavor with hints of pepper. - Cornbread was good. - Garlic butter rice side was good, al dente rice. - Service was decent and our party of 5 waited 20 min or so despite them being busy. Cons: - Coleslaw was a little too yogurt-y. Overall: - Food 4/5 some of the best salmon in Seward and other dishes are pretty good though nothing mind-blowing. - Service 3.5/5 average to above average friendliness and wait times - Value 3.5/5 probably one of the better value places in Seward, but it still is Seward.

Yelp
If you're visiting Seward, you need to come here for a culturally unique, fun and tasty meal. As Gayle and I were riding the shuttle bus from the Windsong Lodge to Downtown Seward, I spied the "Cheap Beer - Lousy Food" sign at the Salmon Bake Restaurant as we passed. I immediately recognized that this was a "Road Food" type of place that was a relatively easy walk from our Hotel and the only near alternative to the Resurrection Road House. So for our last dinner in Seward, we schlepped down the Salmon Bake. As it's a popular place and every restaurant anywhere was short staffed, we waited maybe 30 minutes for a table. Actually, we accepted a bar spot which sped things up. We really appreciated that they had both and indoor room and outdoor patio as a waiting area. That gave us the opportunity to go to the bar, order a few drinks, hang out, and chat with other guests. Since this is Alaska and we're in a restaurant named after a fish, of course any of our main selections would be from the sea. I went for the Salmon Bake Dinner, while Gayle choice Broiled Halibut. I mean really, who orders Ribs at a largely seafood restaurant? Both were delicious, well portioned, and nicely color balanced. So much for the "Lousy Food". The craft beer and wine were not "Cheap", and went really well with our wait and dinner. The rooms in Salmon Bake have a sort of a mismatched road house vibe, which felt both authentic and comfortable. Our bar area seat was also by the window facing the patio, which gave us a front row seat to some fascinating people watching. There's a really eclectic bunch who dine and work here, and half the fun was guessing people's stories. Best of all, it all felt like a great date night.

Yelp
We ended up coming here 3 times in our 3 days of stay at Seward, as they were one of the few places that still accommodated walk-ins (staff shortages forced a buncha restaurants to limit capacity and/or focus on take-out. The salmon, as expected, is excellent. But if you don't feel like eating their namesake, the halibut and crab options were also pretty great. Waits were super long and our servers have consistently felt scattered and overwhelmed, but that was the case all-around AK this season so I'll hand 'em 5/5 just for the food.

Yelp
Loved dining in this restaurant! Our server James was very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable and made our entire experience so much better. We went there around 7 pm on a Thursday (group of 6) and were quickly seated. The interior is very interesting, seems a little run down but I liked the vibe. We got the salmon bake dinner, broiled halibut, which came with 2 sides each- couple of portions of rice, and one of corn and beans and we then added a side of prawns and halibut steak too. Fish and prawns were soft and flavorful. We also got the vegetable of the day- a bowl of spinach, mushroom and tomato, it was so nice! Finally we got a very 'healthy' dessert - chocolate cake with ice cream, it was huge, we shared between the 6 of us! Chocolate cake was excellent. Food seemed a bit pricey but seemed worth it. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Visiting this area of Alaska and did not have a lot of time to explore. We just knew we wanted to try some fresh, local seafood and guess we got lucky because this hit the spot. The most flavorful, bold colored salmon I've ever tasted. Really delicious with the sides. Must visit again!!

Yelp
Hole in the wall delight!. Fried Halibut was outstanding! Lots of local ambiance. Great server. Nice little walk to get there but the glacier edge is quite a bit aways - not in backyard as implied. Wish I got the tshirt!

Yelp
It appears we got pretty lucky, because there was no wait when my party arrived on a Sunday night. Coming from New York, I felt like there weren't many food options in Seward, but my group really wanted to try Salmon Bake for the seafood options it had to offer. For 90$ (at that time), you can get a pound of king crab legs with sides of potatoes and sautéed corn. King crab leg was very salty, but with the butter it was perfectly seasoned. The king crab leg was also very meaty and the portion size is quite generous. The sides were very mediocre in my opinion. Certain meals such as a sandwich and/or come with a side of a pickle, which I believe they make in house. You can walk to a barrel in the restaurant and pick out the right pickle for you. Overall experience was probs one of the better and more worth it food experiences in Seward for me.

Yelp
Food was ok. Not much service to the place. Many people running around not helping the guests. .

Stephanie Z.

Yelp
Food was good. Very nicely decorated . young kids working were great. We had older waitress and asked her her recommendations she was very rude and stated why would I recommend anything. ordered Crab it was very good but not much at all only had 1 joint leg portion. when ordered it came with 2 sides got potato corn. she never refilled drink once. when got check questioned bill and she very rudely said you got appetizer not dinner. imagine my surprise at $68 meal . Husband was suppose to get a specialty pickle with his was told they were out after asking. thank goodness it was good because honestly the lady was one of the rudest we ever had wait on us.

Danelle R.

Yelp
The atmosphere was amazing, handcrafted by the owner and you can tell. The seafood is quality. Highly recommend this place!!

Yelp
We thought we'd try out a restaurant in Seward where perhaps the locals eat. So we ended up at the Exit Glacier The Salmon Bake where their motto is "Cheap Beer, Lousy Food." It's about a half mile from the Windsong Lodge. I ordered the baby back ribs and the Alaskan crab cakes. These ribs were the best I have ever eaten around the country. Not only are the ribs cut extra thick, but it has a wonderful layer of gristle and fat which lends to a fantastic mouth feel. The ribs fell off the bone with the slightest enticement. There wasn't much sauce, but it didn't need it. Not only did the chef brine the ribs, they also boiled it slowly, and then grilled it. My dining partner said the crab cakes were some of the best he's eaten. It tasted like crab and was moist. The entrees were generous and absolutely delicious!

Yelp
Surprised how good everything was!!! Staff were great food was great the salmon is top notch!

Yelp
Disappointing. I saw many recommendations for this place when planning my trip to Seward, but it didn't live up to the hype. Be warned the wait times are crazy due to staffing shortages (which seem to be affecting almost all restaurants in the area). Unfortunately they were out of their namesake salmon the two times we went (the first time we gave up due to insane wait times). My friend and I shared the seafood chowder, gulf captain's platter and halibut sandwich. There was an upcharge on the platter for their substitute of halibut for the salmon they were out of. The chowder was the best thing we ordered. The halibut and fried shrimp were good, but not amazing...The halibut was pretty bland and would've benefited from more salt and seasoning, which for one of their signature dishes was pretty disappointing. The halibut in the sandwich was the same way, and the bun tasted like it came straight out of a bag of store bought hamburger buns. For sides: the corn tasted like plain canned corn (??). The rice pilaf and fries on the other hand were actually quite tasty! Entrees also came with cornbread, which was too sweet for my taste (as a GA girl, I like my traditional unsweetened cornbread) though the corn kernels in it added some nice texture. They do have some great cheap beers on tap, but overall the prices of the food here aren't worth it when half the food is lacking in flavor.

Yelp
This was a fun place. After hiking to Exit Glacier, 4 kids and myself were tired and hungry. We got here a bit before they opened for dinner, so we checked out the creek and little bridge next door. We all loved the rustic, Alaskan decor and tons of flowers. At 5 o'clock sharp, the Salmon Bake opened and we were quickly seated, presented with the specials and given water and menus. The kids loved the maps on the table, and the Alaskan relics all around. We chose our meals and service was quick and friendly. We chose steamer clams (yum), Caesar salad (pretty good), seafood chowder (delicious, but not salty enough) and various kid delicacies. Overall a yummy dinner and great service. Perfect end to an outdoor, Alaskan day! P.S- delicious cornbread!

Yelp
Really getting that "Emperor has no clothes" feeling from this place. I was a bit reluctant to come here when I didn't see any reviews from Alaska Elites, which seemed odd. First, the good: the staff. They were fantastic! Friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Now the rest: - You'll see a lot of reviews mention free whole dill pickles from a pickle barrel. They are not whole. And they are not free. They were at one time apparently, but now they have an angry sign on them saying they aren't free and cost $1.75 - VOG (Vegetable of the Day): was the best thing we ordered. It was cabbage with bacon. However, it had a $2.00 upcharge that wasn't written or explained. - I got ribs: the ribs were sad. They were grey and tasted like they had been boiled, not even a whiff of smoke. The sauce was a clear glaze that tasted like corn syrup and not much else. There wasn't even a suggestion of tomatoes. Any BBQ sauce out of a bottle would've been better, I just don't understand why you'd boil meat and not even try to fix it with a tangy sauce? - My brother got halibut fish n' chips: they were good, but very over-battered for our tastes. - My mother got the halibut sandwich, and just ate the halibut. The bun was cold and enormous compared to the tiny piece of halibut - The beer selection: is mostly from Kenai River Brewing, one of my least favorite breweries in Alaska. We are all beer fans but we chose to get water instead. There was a 2+ hour wait, likely due to the labor shortage. But we were staying at the nearby Exit Glacier Lodge, so it wasn't all that bad!

Yelp
Really solid food spot in Seward - plus you can actually get a table here! We tried a ton of things here. The Good: - "steamer" clams (they're not steamers, just regular ol' clams) - broiled halibut - salmon bake - teriyaki burger The Meh: - king crab legs - seafood chowder - NY steak The Bad: - fried salmon chunks - chocolate cake (a little too dry for me) Our server was also the sweetest! Overall a great place to grab food if you're in the area.

Yelp
Great spot just outside Seward. The food is great (not lousy as the sign say) and yes the beer is cheap.
google avatar

Kolson F.

Yelp
Salmon bake is a quaint spot with a rustic, intimate environment. Servers were quite friendly and accommodating - since it was a busy day when we arrived (Tuesday dinnertime) we had to wait some time for them to take our order. We ordered the salmon sandwich and the NY steak. The salmon sandwich could have used a bit more seasoning (we had to ask for Mayo/Tartar separately). The NY steak was flavorful but nothing to write home about. Overall, a positive experience for a couple travelers looking for a quaint spot for solid grub. But don't expect to be blown away.

Yelp
ad dinner here on Wednesday Aug 4, 2021 with my dad, son, brother and nephew and we ALL loved our dinners. My son & I had the Gulf Captains Platters- broiled salmon, fried halibut chunks and fried prawns with baked beans & a baked potato as sides. The baked beans were the lowlight of the meal but everything else was delicious. My brother & nephew had the One Pound King Crab dinner and loved it. The crab legs were huge. My dad got the Broiled Seasoned Halibut Sandwich and he loved it. Come early, or at least before they open, or you will be waiting what could be hours...
google avatar

Leslie S.

Yelp
When in Rome...or Seward that is. So yes, I had the salmon bake. Delicious. Cooked perfectly. Flavor was light, freah and not fishy. Chowder was thick, creamy and hot. Delicious. Sides were odd. Not a fan. Our server was more interested in the local fishermen so a bit difficult to get her attention. All in all a pleasant meal.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Friendly service and great ambiance. There can be a wait, but there was a spot at the bar so we sat down right away. Got the seafood chowder and gulf captain's platter which was a great sampling. Would definitely go back again!

Yelp
After a long day of fishing and scouring yelp to find a place that was still open at 9pm thats serving burgers we hurried down the highway to arrive at Salmon Bake Restaurant. Excited and hungry we run to the door seeing patrons through the window enjoying their food. As we pull on the door it's stuck. No wait - it's locked! It's 9:28pm the door and hours say restaurant closes at 10pm. CHANGE YOUR HOURS OF OPERATION IF YOU DO NOT KEEP THE RESTAURANT OPEN TIL POSTED CLOSING TIME!

Sab G.

Yelp
The food here is better than another one we tried the night before. The portion is good, just enough. We took fish and chip (halibut), it is $36 for 5 small fish nuggets, a tiny coleslaw and French fries in addition to 2 cubes of corn breads. The corn bread is actually the highlight!

Yelp
This is hands down the BEST restaurant in all of Seward!!! Alaskan King Crab was great, Salmon was out of this world. My favorite was the Prawns, so good. Local Root Beer and the Blueberry Cobbler was so amazing!! The service was outstanding, the waitress was super nice and so attentive. If you come to Seward in the summer vacation time it is absolutely INSANE to find a table for dinner at any of the nice seafood restaurants, so get ready to wait. People start standing in line waiting at Ray's at like 3pm so who wants to eat dinner at 3pm (no one) also their staff at the entrance were rude. Chinooks is closed on Monday & Tuesday, then only open 4 hours a day on the other days. We arrived & put our name on the wait list at Salmon Bake which was 2 hours then went for a short hike & when we came back we were good to go. With that said, I promise you this is worth the wait!!
google avatar

Yelp
Very disappointed.... Fish & chips for $36 was served with 5 small nugget size pieces of fish. The seafood cakes were meh with horrible cocktail sauce. I guess they make their money off of one-time tourist business because I can't imagine anyone coming back here a second time.
google avatar

Aelita P.

Yelp
Some great stuff some meh stuff and some not so great stuff. My SO and I came hungry after a long hike. We ordered the king crab, clam appetizer, and the platter with salmon, halibut, fried shrimp + mushed potatoes and cornbread. I was very much into the crab and clams (the bread it came with was fine). If I only ate those things I'd give this place a five. Unfortunately everything on the platter was just medium: either dry or just not very tasty. There was also a TON of batter on the shrimp and the halibut which we weren't into but I could see how others might be. That being said, I'd recommend coming and making a meal out of the crab and clams. They were awesome and the place itself is pretty cool as well (halogen lamps hanging from the ceiling, nets and fishing gear on the walls as decor, nice wait staff).

Yelp
The food here was wonderful!! You could taste the life and freshness of the fish. The sockeye salmon bake is great and has wonderful flavoring. Their root beer is great and made there. I am not a huge fan of pickles but eating a fresh pickel from the barrel was great!!

Yelp
We stopped here for dinner after driving in from Anchorage that afternoon. The server was super friendly and the highlight of our visit. At the end of our meal, we asked her for recommendations for brunch the following day. Even though they were super closed and we were one of the last groups in the restaurant, she gave us an honest answer and we were happy with her tips (which we tried). I had the salmon and was a little disappointed with the quality, which I would have expected to be better. BUT the restaurant's motto is 'Home of CHEAP BEER & LOUSY FOOD' so maybe they are full disclosure and I should have known what to expect? We were all about the order the same beer so we got the pitcher which ended up being a better deal. I appreciated the friendly service and the cozy cabin feeling of being surrounded by wood. My friends shared the seafood platter which was more delicious than the salmon.

Kelly R.

Yelp
Fabulous decision to ignore some of the previous reviews. We lucked out and grabbed a seat at the bar. They had local brews on tap which was a bonus. We split the Captains platter broiled sockeye salmon, fried halibut bites, Alaska prawn served with baked potato corn and cornbread. Good portions for $40.00. We each had a cup of seafood chowder which is by far the best I have ever had. Great dinner after a nice hike to Exit Glacier. Definitely enjoyed this little quaint stop in Steward, Alaska!

Yelp
Really delicious, home made. Seating and ambience is cozy and homey. We enjoyed the chowder as well: The salmon was grilled very well. The fried halibut and jumbo shrimp were great. I personally also loved the cornbread with honey butter. Very satisfying after a long hiking day.

Yelp
The sign on the outside says lousy food and cheap beer, its an apt description for this place. We went there for dinner today and they were out of Salmon(so maybe they need a name change too :) ), note that the area is not out of salmon but they just choose to not restock as its easier that way. Also they charge a markup on the halibut which is the replacement. We had to wait around an hour to get our table at 6pm which should tell you that this place is amazingly popular. The food is however nothing to write home about. With an average entree cost of around $30 one would expect spectacular food with the best flavors, instead one is treated to bland, insipid fare which you wouldn't serve to your in-laws. We ordered the Gulf Captain's platter(note they added a $3 surcharge since they were out of salmon), the halibut burger and the clam chowder. The clam chowder was ok, the platter had mostly fried fish with a tiny halibut filet($39), the sandwich had a decent chunk of halibut for a lot cheaper. From a taste point of view, the kitchen seemed to have a shortage of salt and any other seasoning. The sandwich didn't even have the bread grilled on both sides and had raw onions. The bread also tasted mostly raw. Overall one of the most expensive and worst meals i have had on vacation.

Yelp
** Solid place for good seafood with friendly service. Only open afternoon to night starting 5:00 pm. My family and I came here upon recommendation from locals, and overall the experience was solid. The waitress was really friendly and did a good job answering all our questions. My Dad ordered the Halibut, which I believe was actually better than the salmon in my opinion. It was very tender and overall fresh tasting, just a little smaller than the salmon (which is huge). The salmon comes as a very big piece with a few sides you can pick from. The first few bites in were really good, but I have to say that it wasn't super thoroughly cooked in the middle, and the raw taste kind of grew on me a lot. I would prefer it to be a bit more well done, but perhaps that's the style they were going for. Conveniently located near exit glacier so it's a good place to eat on the way there since there's not too much past that point.

Yelp
Poorly managed. I get that they are short staffed, but they ended up closing at 9:30p with 3 parties on the wait list that had been waiting for over an hour not yet seated. The manager could have at least had the decency to apologize, but she instead made up a fake story that we weren't at the restaurant before 9p. All 3 of our parties had been there since 8:15p, a couple of us since 8p and were all waiting at the restaurant before 9p. Thank you to the poor waitress that was sent up front to speak on behalf of the manager. That was a hard spot to be in. The hours they have posted are incorrect. They don't do takeout even though their site says they do. You'd probably be doing them a favor by eating elsewhere.

Yelp
Bring a bit of patience and you will have a great meal here. We were fine being seated at the bar so the wait was just under 30 minutes. All the workers were very patient and friendly working with all the hungry customers. We wanted to try the famous salmon baked dinner but they were already out of the large pieces of sockeye salmon by about 8pm. Our waitress suggested getting the Gulf Captain's Platter which has a smaller piece of salmon PLUS beer battered halibut chunks, and deep fried prawns. This turned out to be the best part of our meal because we got to try a little bit of everything. Our other entree was the broiled halibut which was fresh and tasty and the side of 1/2 lb crab leg was amazing and meaty! The only thing is when the bill came, everything was a bit more than the menu price. I assumed they have not update their their menu due to the new season? It was worth it for the price we paid but just confirm if you want to make sure.

Yelp
Good beers and good vibes. The broiled halibut was tasty and the cornbread was a sleeper hit. Large, filling portions justified the price-point, in my opinion. Like many other restaurants this shoulder season, Salmon Bake isn't immune to staffing shortages, so expect a wait, but the staff was cheerful and they gave great, personal service in spite of it.
