10 Best Things to Do in Rome with Kids

"Explora Museum makes science and history fun through games, workshops, puzzles, and hands-on exhibitions; plus, it’s suitable for toddlers all the way up to 12-year-olds. The modern glass-and-steel structure keeps it pleasingly light inside, and the open-plan design means kids can race from the well-stocked mini supermarket, for example, complete with a working cashier, to the open water area. Older kids can take command of the drivable life-size train or head upstairs to the computer rooms, where they "work" and earn "money" to spend at other games." - Maresa Manara

Love how these places are developed to completely capture the attention of children and develop their interest in science in a playful manner. This museum has a small but interesting playground with a zip line and slides built around the learning process of how water flows and understanding of weight. As soon as we enter the museum, there are 2 levels and I would suggest to take the upper level first as they close 15 minutes earlier than the lower level. Topics related to budget, how to choose interesting careers, how to spend wisely, gender equality and such topics are covered beautifully in this level. The lower levels have interesting games related to kinetic energy, shopping for healthy foods, control the Frecciarossa toy train, play with water to produce music, how farmers grow their food and so much more. It's such a creative and amazing place labeled as for children upto 12 years of age. They also have separate area for babies. Each session is 1 hour 45 minutes and we wished to have more time as there is so much to explore. But how much ever time would have been short as it wouldn't be enough. It's that interesting.

We've been to this museum five times now with our grandchildren. It is an excellent place for our toddlers as well as older school aged kids. There are plenty of interactive activities that the kids enjoy. Most activities also have more complex and interesting aspects for the older children. There is a special area for really young kids and an excellent activities area with limitless things to build. Each session is two hours.

The museum itself is innovative and fantastic fun and decently priced. What let's it down is that they allow so many people in at one time and its overcrowded and incredibly overwhelming for children and adults alike. They also have a policy that if you go outside to play on the outdoor toys you cannot go back in. Our children struggled to regulate for at least the first 20-30 minutes. If we had been able to take them outside they might have been able to calm down and come back in. Alas it wasn't allowed. If your children struggle with noise or crowds dont waste your money, But If your children can cope with noise then its definitely worth the money. Perhaps it was worse due to school holidays but I can imagine a museum like this is busy during the year too.

It was a nice experience for the kids especially as tourists, loved all of the educational activities! I think we definitely needed more time. But would definitely spend another day here

We had an amazing time!!! Highly recommended!! You can stay inside 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has many activities for all ages. Our kid was 3 and had a lot of fun. Very clean place. I loved double toilets when parents can go inside with kids. It has playground and outside. You can visit after the ending of the museum. I think on week days is less crowded, if you can visit it.,Better pre-order your ticket. We were lucky and found the 3 last tickets!!

Google
Excellent educational and play experience for kids up to about 11 / 12. Lots of activities to fill the 1 3/4 hr time slot, maybe it's not long enough to get around everything. We tried most things and they really enjoyed their time there. Glad we went and made a change from the usual sightseeing and history viewing in Rome. The staff were also friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great afternoon.

Yelp
We took our 2 year old here for some energy burning activity. There is certainly fun activity for a 2 year old but older children have much more options. There is a play kitchen area, a play garden, an art area for drawing and collage, some water play and wind machine on the ground floor. Most are probably more age appropriate for 3-4 year old kids upwards. My main recommendation would be to eat before you get here. The pizza restaurant on hand is very slow and lacks choice. It took us 1 1/2 hours to get one pizza! This meant our daughter only had 40 minutes of a play session afterwards. To be fair, the age appropriate activity there probably is just about enough for that time. There is a playground on site but we did not get to use that.

Yelp
I brought my 8 year old son here after 3 days of sightseeing and he had a great time. The signs are in Italian, however, they do have English translations on most things. Lots of things to touch and play with. The only drawback is that there are only certain times they allow you to come in... so you must go during one of those times. But it is a quick walk from the Spanish Steps and a great place for kids.

Yelp
This is a wonderful interactive museum for kids of all ages. I took my 2 year old here and let her roam, choosing things she wanted to play with, which is encouraged from Explora's website. However, I felt that we were being followed and periodically had a staff member standing right next to us! I wished we had the opportunity to enjoy the stations as we pleased. I understand that my toddler was playing in stations that were for kids older than her, but as a parent I was being cautious of their property and didn't allow her touch things that could potentially hurt her or damage things. I didn't pay 13 euros to only let her play in the 0-3 years area, that was encouraged by the receptionist.

Yelp
My 2 kids of 1 and 5 loved this museum, lots of things to do and the language barrier (they both are Dutch) was hardly an issue. I really recommend this!

Yelp
Great place for children! Our family went to Italy and on our last day we spent here and let our little one run around. We dragged her around doing the sightseeing so coming here was for her. She loved the play garden and the trains and firetruck they had. It was so nice seeing a place like this for kids. Would definitely come here again and/or stay near here for her sake to let her explora!
