The doctor was very friendly but I left the appointment frustrated and skeptical of her diagnosis:
-She told me that I've been wearing too strong a prescription for several years
-She told me that I've been wearing the wrong type of contacts for my eyes, uncoincidentally suggesting I order much more expensive contacts through her office. She gave me a trial pair of the new ones, saying that I'd feel the difference right away. So I went into the bathroom and put them in -- absolutely no difference. When I told her they felt the same, she dismissed it and still insisted that they're better than the ones I currently wear. When I expressed concern over the price of the new contacts, she told me they'd be the same price (Hint: they aren't! The ones she wants me to wear are about ~$500 more per year.)
-She told me that she couldn't do dilation because my eyes were too dry for the drops (?)
I've been to several different eye doctors (including opthalmologists, not just optometrists), and never have I once heard any of these things from any other doctor.
Additionally, she told me that I should not be wearing Warby Parker glasses, and that I should ONLY be wearing lenses from a doctor's office. I understand that WP is not the best quality, but I only wear my glasses at night. It's absolutely ridiculous to suggest that I spend $700 on a pair of eyeglasses that I wear for literally one waking hour per day. The whole thing felt like a huge sales pitch.
After I told the front staff that I was not going to order contacts or glasses through their office, they sent me on my merry way -- and I realized when I got home that they never gave me my prescription (which, btw, is totally illegal). I called back this morning and asked them to email it to me. My request was met with attitude, and - shocker! - I still have not received the email with my prescription.
As others have mentioned, the storefront/office space is very disorganized and messy, boxes everywhere, etc. I was shuffled back and forth between three different employees to be able to schedule the follow-up for dilation, which I've since canceled. I'll instead be seeking a second opinion from an office that won't try to sell me $1300 worth of stuff that I (probably) don't need.
