Google
Fantastic place for breakfast. Seated quickly, server was polite and friendly. Order at the bar with your table number. We had a classic English breakfast and it was magnificent! Tye scrambled eggs were amazing! Lovely coffee too. Not the cheapest but good value for money. Certain tables are "no laptop" tables which makes for a good atmosphere and means you're not surrounded and distracted by bright screens. Will definitely come again when visiting Manchester.

Google
The food is of good quality and the restaurant and its interior is done really nicely. The "seating regime" is quite strict - upon arrival you get seated by the staff and we were told to stay for max. 90 minutes, despite the fact of a half empty location.

Josh Rosen

Google
Lovely little spot we found for brekkie. Service was great, very friendly and reasonably quick. Especially good coffee. However, you have to pay an extra £3 to add hash browns to an English breakfast, which is fine as long as they're good hash browns. I got three discs of what seemed like yesterday's leftover mash shoved under a medium-low grill for a whole ten seconds. Have to lose two stars for that.

Laura Jacques

Google
Really nice breakfast spot! We were surprised at how busy it was with a queue to get in! Staff were lovely and helpful but due to the busyness food was a little slow to come out. Well worth the wait though! Absolutely great place for breakfast!

Dan Lawton

Google
Really tasty breakfast dishes, good coffees and a nice selection of cakes/coffees. Best to arrive early to get a table without waiting too long. My only criticism was that there wasn't enough bread to go with the eggs, ham, whatnot...

Noura Elshebbah

Google
It was a wonderful experience, the staff were nice, the food was delicious, especially the sourdough toast. The most amazing thing was the service was fast. I thought it would take a long time, but the food was prepared in less than five minutes. It will not be the last visit and I will always come because I was happy with you 🥰🥰

Google
Eating here is…fine. It’s definitely lost a lot of the atmosphere and what made it great in the early days. The food is tasty, but there are big queues no matter when you arrive and you’ll often have to wait 15-20 minutes for a table. Is it worth it? Borderline now. Service friendly and food is good, but feels like it’s lost its original charm and is now just any other brunch place. There’s better out there but it’s worth a try.

Google
We walked in on a Sunday morning and was promptly seated by a friendly server. I had the E n G breakfast bowl and it was the right mix of temperature and texture: firm avocado, slightly salted, warm, fluffy eggs, and tomatoes. Kids had the eggs benedict with smoked salmon and the sourdough with scrambled eggs. All good. Pet friendly with dog bowls under self service water. Ample space for seating. High tables, normal ones; some with plastic separators for sharing tables. Despite it being busy at 9.30am, everyone looked comfortably seated. Slight queue to order but good came promptly.

Yelp
I've seen this place a few times in my search for brunch and food around the city. Today was the first time I've actually been able to go in. Went around 10am on a Friday and it was busy .. but there were lots of seats free so got seated. The decor was lovely ... very cozy looking and feeling place with merch and own branded foods around .. it was nice and felt cozy. Was told that I would have to be done in 90mins as it's a busy place and the seat I was at was a laptop free one so people clearly come in to work there so that's always a good sign. The menu had a good range but I decided on the French toast, with a side of sourdough toast. Had to go up and order at the till so no table service .. but that was fine ... had a little wait there but it was manageable. The food was made really quick ... like .. REALLY quick .. and omg it's one of the best French toasts I've had in Manchester!! Was sweet, had an amazing crisp and cinnamon taste to it as it was rolled in cinnamon sugar ... it was amazing. Didn't come with a side of maple syrup tho so you only got what they gave you. The sourdough was toasted perfectly and the butter was very nice. Pieces were a bit small from what I'm used to but it was nice. Would deffo return.

Yelp
Lots of options, good service, and the food was great. Not over complicated, tends to get busy and they have a good system going, stopped by with a small group and were well accommodated.

Andrew M.

Yelp
Tried the brunch here and they were pretty basic. Quite crowded for brunch and had to wait some time but not worth the wait. Coffees are okay too nothing exceptional basically not into my liking. I wouldnt recommend who loves brunch if you are around to come here. But definitely better than maui poke (complete rubbish). The place was chill and good though. Didnt ask how my egg wants to be cooked up to. Cheers! Hope this helps!

Julie L.

Yelp
Lovely brunch at Ezra & Gil. I ate the smashed pumpkin on toast and my son had the French toast. Both were delicious! So beautifully presented, too. Loved the combination of colors and flavors.

Veronica J.

Yelp
Spacious cafe in the heart of NQ with friendly atmosphere and outstanding food & coffee. Great selection of brunch menu - both traditional and funky modern offers with a twist, such as pumpkin on toast. You get a table, and then order food at the counter; collect your drink and food is brought to your table. The service is prompt and the food presented like art! You can also buy fresh organic fruit &veg, as well as hen and duck eggs. The place is dog friendly - free treats are for canine customers!

Adam S.

Yelp
Well designed and welcoming cafe / coffee shop. Order at the counter and they expedite the food out to you at your table. I had brioche French toast and decided to accompany it with two poached eggs and a glass of fresh orange juice. Though I'd have preferred apple juice, the juice was squeezed in front of you at the counter. Within minutes my meal came and was not only great presentation but even better flavor and quality. Eggs were done quite well though order runnier personally. Want to come back again during my trip and try their flatbread.

Karman W.

Yelp
The portion sizes were decent, the coffee was beautifully made and the staff were friendly and approachable. The vegetarian breakfast was unique. I personally never really had hummus with English breakfast so if you're a fan of both hummus and a meatless English breakfast then this would be your go-to.

Natalie W.

Yelp
I ended up here when looking for Foundation Coffee House and it's kind of similar in its modern design. Staff weren't exactly welcoming and my friend was somewhat mystified by the operation of what looked like a French press but dropped itself (I have no idea what that is or whether that matters). He said it was strong, didn't say it was good. Soft drink wise, there was a reasonably-priced smoothie which sounded good apart from the involvement of spinach, however owing to said disinterested staff I didn't investigate further. Lots of people were working even on a Saturday afternoon - there's good space for groups and laptops. Seating ranges from chairs that look like the uncomfortable wooden chairs you had at primary school to stools that look like the ones at my childhood church hall. Aesthetically, it works.

Aris L.

Yelp
I went here for breakfast. I ordered the classic e&g breakfast..taste good! The french toast was also awesome! Staff were friendly! CONCLUSION = RECOMMENDED

Yelp
So, the combination of warm weather and the Stone Roses playing a string of gigs leads to absolute madness in Manchester - especially when you add it to the already bustling Friday night crowd. Looking for somewhere relaxed and quick before jumping on the train to the Lake District for the weekend, we were short of options. Then we walked past Ezra & Gil. The large industrial space contains plenty of seating and I can see why so many people were still here with their laptops after 6pm on a Friday; you could easily settle in here for a solid working session across a number of hours. The display area is slightly more rustic, with a fridge for cold drinks and display of food & drink items to take away, then the kitchen / serving area. Everything on the menu looks amazing, especially the french toast & other breakfast items, but we decided to split some sandwiches (something a little bit heavier before those traditional train beers!) instead. Between us we had the BBQ chicken melt on a flatbread and aubergine pesto & sweet potato on toasted sourdough, then a caramel shortbread slice for 'dessert'. The presentation and quality of the food is excellent, and not too harsh on the wallet either. Chicken, cheese and BBQ sauce is always a great combination, especially when you add a flatbread and sprinkling of red chilli. The sweet potato & pesto was a great combination and felt virtually virtuous, though I think I'd prefer it on a flatbread next time - the sourdough was just a little bit too crusty to get a knife through, meaning the toppings slid off whilst attempting to eat by hand! The caramel shortbread was a lovely end, with really rich chocolate and buttery shortbread, and they have plenty of other sweet options including vegan slices and bars. When it comes to coffee shops in Manchester, we're not exactly short on options, but I think we'll be seeing more of Ezra & Gil in the future. Much more.

Laura C.

Yelp
Huge cafe space with lots of tables and window seats. Serves all-day brunch, offering plenty of Instagram material (eggs, avocado, yeeeah). You go up and order at the counter, giving you the opportunity to eye up many delightful cakes and other sweet treats. Quick, friendly service. Can see why it's such a hit (packed on a Saturday avo). Worth stopping by for a bite and a slurp.

Aude J.

Yelp
Great spot in Manchester, the food is very good just as the drinks. It could be a bit noisy when it's crowded but what do you want ? It's the sign of the greatest!

Matt F.

Yelp
I mean you're not spoilt for choice are you when it comes to coffee shops in Manchester, especially in the Northern Quarter - but give Ezra & Gil a go - you'll be impressed! First things first the coffee is good - which is important. Second things second they do nice food - sandwiches and little things like that. Third things third it's a great spot for a meeting - there's loads of space to get your laptop or notepad out so if you're looking for a spot to meet someone here's your place! It can get busy though so make sure you have a plan B in mind :)

Helen C.

Yelp
Possibly taken over the spot of my favourite place to go in Manchester, it has a really relaxed mood and feels like a feel community space. I met up with my friend who recommended I try the Mint Hot Chocolate which I did and loved! I feel like every detail of this place is so carefully planned out to really give the best customer experience. For example, next to the counter there are water jugs with grapefruit in which you can help yourself too and mindfulness colouring books on the table. It would be a great place to get some work done and is a nice meeting point as they have big tables to chat around. I didn't eat on this particular visit but my friend had eggs and avocado which looked sooo tasty and I am itching to get back there and try it out! Essentially it is another Northern Quarter open cafe with a big open space but I really feel that everything from the well thought out ingredients to the extra little details makes this place a little bit special, I would definitely recommend trying this place, I don't think you will be disappointed!

Andy H.

Yelp
Ezra & Gil Very big open space and a big serving areas till lots of choices of sandwiches and cakes all hot food is cook fresh. The chairs are like school and very original in side. And not over priced. Staff are very friendly.

Chris T.

Yelp
Ezra and Gil is a brand spanking new coffee shop which is located by Newton Street and Stevenson Square in the ever changing Northern Quarter. Its contemporary industrial look, looks great and its all open plan there are high seats in the large windows and a few large tables to sit around. There is a great selection of coffees and other drinks, I had a latte and it cost £2.50 and it was served in a large mug, it was smooth and had a gorgeous taste. There is also a great selection of very yummy home made cakes which cost around £2 each. The ambience was nice with trendy customers as was all the staff who were really friendly. Yet another great coffee shop in the ever changing Northern Quarter.

Paul B.

Yelp
TL;DR - Great venue with very reasonable prices for good food and drink. If you've visited the Foundation Coffee house, this place should be familiar. It's a large open unit which used to be part of a warehouse or similar. But whereas the Foundation Coffee house have gone for industrial chic and modernism, everything's more rustic and homely at Ezra & Gil. The first thing that struck us was the prices - this is probably one of the cheapest places around the northern quarter for a pot of tea. We've also had some great food here. On top of being a cafe, there's a greengrocers produce area, free wifi, and a standing workstation if you need it. There's a real mix of folks in here, from hipsters hanging out to be seen, people working away on laptops and older couples watching the world go by. It's a very laid back vibe and very charming.

Jonny Q.

Yelp
Not a bad new addition to the burgeoning coffee scene in the NQ, in fact there's now so much choice that there's no need to even walk a few blocks between them to burn off that cake you have on the side of your flat white! So I'm looking at a big venue, loads of room to sit either at the window (and people watch) or around tables and chairs inside and as usual in the NQ a very rustic look - all stripped back and nodding to Manchester's industrial heritage. I actually popped in here to work for a few hours and just nailed a couple of coffees, a juice and a bagel (from Barbakan in Chorlton) - but they also do a full lunch and breakfast menu with a number of exciting options from their open plan kitchen. The manager was a friendly guy and staff were all pretty cool - check it out if you want to get your coffee fix! Very relaxing venue to hang out in too.

Saffy K.

Yelp
I got treated to lunch here today and it was a pleasurable experience, the place is spacious and fits the whole NQ vibe. Definitely an ideal place to meet a friend for a natter and a brew. Not the cheapest place for lunch as it cost £8 per person for a small plate of salad but it did the job and tasted nice enough, we got a pretty generous helping of chicken too. Nothing extraordinary but definitely not bad. I really like that they have free fruit infused water available to all customers, especially in today's sweltering heat! I hear the coffee is pretty good so I'll be back to try that.

Paul R.

Yelp
Like so many northern quarter bats and cafes there's s 'stripped back to bare brick walls' vibe with a slight touch of industrial and a smattering of gardening chic. This place is a lightly pricer than some of its neighbours bit this is reflected in the quality. The coffee is sublime. I do however find it odd you collect it yourself but there are no trays meaning if one pepsin goes to order coffee for three it takes three trips ball to the table. The Breakfast is amazing, especially the sprinkle of micro herbs. I don't know how they get scrambled eggs to be so light and creamy but they do! The veggie breakfast is also a winner with somehow slightly sweet mushrooms! The 5th star is lost for the serving staff who are mostly great but seem a bit disorganised and asked the same questions several times. The chefs deserve full praise though and a keep up the good work.

Daniel G.

Yelp
The northern quarter of Manchester is buzzing with super cool coffee shops and restaurants, from what I gather Ezra & Gill is a relatively new addition and it fits right in. Myself and a couple of work friends sat here for a whole afternoon and felt perfectly comfortable getting on with what we needed to while enjoying a couple of coffees. We also made the decision to stay here for lunch, I ordered the chicken salad with was served with a balsamic vinaigrette and toasted walnuts. It was fresh and well made, perfect for a light bite on a Monday afternoon. I really appreciate the attention to detail at Ezra and Gil, its the small details like the hand written signage, table decorations and ice cold water on the table that really make this place stand out for me. If I was a resident of Manchester I think you would find me here a lot!

Bethany W.

Yelp
Me and coffee venues do not technically go hand in hand, basically because I don't drink coffee or tea so we always have a slight issue. Today, we met here for some training and sadly I didn't converse much with the staff or the people within the venue, but, what I will say is: to say the spot was originally another blank open space, they have used the area well and I really enjoyed the ambience and decor within. I also opted for the Nicoise Salad which was fresh and filling - nothing amazing and for me it could have done with a bit more lettuce but the dressing was delicious and I enjoyed it! I would definitely come back to try the soup and breakfasts as I eyed a few up and they looked and smelt delicious!

Emily C.

Yelp
My first coffee stop in Manchester! I love how cosy it is in this cafe with both communal tables for you to work on and seatings that overlook the streets. I'm always spoilt with choices here with their appealing range of sweet treats beside the counter! I ended up having a cappuccino and a banana bread. Cappuccino was served with a smooth froth and best of all, sprinkled with cinnamon. Banana bread had a texture similar to a chiffon cake and best served warm! The service was really helpful and accommodated to my needs all the time! I have yet to try their breakfast but I'll definitely be back!

Josh M.

Yelp
Nice busy coffee shop in the NQ. Has a nice cosy feel which is delivered by being fairly dimly lit with edison bulbs and a mixture of dark neutral grey, exposed brick and wood. I like the touches with the butchers papers rollers listing their menu items and the visible food preparation is always a great sign that they are happy to display their produce and food preparation standards. It's also always nice to see cakes and other fresh items on display. Surprisingly we were able to grab a table on a Saturday morning though it was busy. I can see this being a problem on ocassion given it's location in the heart of the NQ. I only had a flat white but it was of a great standard. The food I saw being served looked good as well. Certainly worth a return to try their bites and grab another coffee of course.

Emily B.

Yelp
Ezra & Gil popped up at the same time as so many other coffee shops and places called Something & Something, so when Jess D suggested meeting there my response was 'sure!' and then straight to the Yelp app to figure out which one it was. For those still wondering, it's on the corner of Newton Street and Hilton Street and has entrances on both streets. It's very nice inside, bright and airy and not at all cramped, which I appreciate. The decor is nothing new or particularly interesting for the Northern Quarter but it looks good all the same. The food menu looked nice, with all the sourdough and avocado that you'd expect, and also some more interesting options such as aubergine pesto and sweet potato sandwich, and black rice and broccoli salad. I was here for cake though so up I went to investigate. It was a good cake selection including muffins, various cake loaves (banana, pumpkin, lemon, pear & ginger), brownies, caramel shortbread, brownies etc. There was a gluten free option and a vegan option. I copied Jess and got the warm banana bread with Nutella, because really, once you've seen that why would you choose anything else? I ordered a flat white to go with it and helped myself to some of the fruit infused water on offer. The banana bread was really nice and the addition of Nutella was delightfully indulgent. Banana bread and other cake loaves always seem that bit more satisfying than other cakes, brownies etc. The coffee was nice - small, strong and slightly (naturally) sweet, all of which I enjoy. I was also glad to see they offer iced coffee. I hate places that are too snobby to offer it, or think it's not real coffee etc. In hot weather I love an iced coffee and if I can't find it elsewhere I have no qualms going to Costa, so it makes perfect sense for independents to offer it. I'm now looking forward to a hot day so I can treat myself. Ezra & Gil also have a little shop. It's a nice idea but I couldn't really figure out why you'd get any of it there rather than elsewhere. I also wasn't keen on the fact that you're advised to help yourself to fruit & veg and *then* ask the staff for the price. Price your produce on the shelf, please. Overall I like Ezra & Gil a lot and I'll be back.

Erin S.

Yelp
Eat here. Now. This place has such a fun, warm, welcoming vibe and the amazing tea and food to match. The traditional English breakfast was anything but average, and the pumpkin toast with feta and beet hummus was such a treat. Add in the fresh squeezed orange juice and the wild cherry tea? Can't be beat. Are you done reading yet? Good. Now go eat here.

Paul H.

Yelp
As a first time visitor to this establishment, I was shocked at the amount of free space. Don't think of it as wasted space, as it isn't, it adds to the ambiance of the place. All the food is made fresh on site, hence the slightly higher prices, but don't let that distract you from the quality. I had a home made sandwich which was lovely and fresh The service was good and the lady behind the till was impressed when I paid with my bpay band, which struck up a nice conversation about how technology is moving on. The conversation was free flowing not like some places you go where it is all scripted, which makes a pleasant change. All in all, a nice little coffee shop with good quality food and good service

Emma D.

Yelp
My favourite brunch spot in Manchester (tried and tasted). There's everything to love about Ezra and Gil. With the laid back atmosphere, coffee and choice of food it's the perfect chilled out place to stop for brunch on the weekend. I've tried quite a few bits and pieces off the menu now and holding the top two spots are the smashed avocado on sourdough bread and the halloumi, beetroot and roasted pepper salad. The coffees are made with love and taste much nice than your run of the mill coffee spots. They open early on weekdays too so you can stop by for a pre-work pick me up or even a post- work out brunch. Ezra and Gil is pet friendly and you will often see the cutest little pups with their own bowl of water sat across the room or as you're playing the board games available on the tables. Lastly, if you need to pick up some fresh produce they also sell fruit, vegetables and eggs to take home as well as a delicious selection of cakes, sandwiches and pastries to eat in or take away. I guarantee that you will love Ezra and Gil. If you don't we can pick this up with some delicious coffee over a heated game of operation, whilst the little French bull dog watches from across the room.

Laura F.

Yelp
Ezra & Gil is a large and very comfortable coffee shop and small, organic and fresh foods store. There are plenty of places to sit and meet with friends or colleagues for food and drink and the open kitchen gives off those homely smells as soon as you walk in the door. The coffee is very good and modest prices too. Free favoured water to accompany your coffee is available on the side. I can imagine I'll spend a lot more time in Ezra & Gil

Karlie S.

Yelp
Really nice breakfast spot. Good vibes. Great coffee and food. Really busy on the weekends.

Jessica D.

Yelp
I checked out Ezra and Gil on a Sunday afternoon with Emily B. I had been meaning to come here for ages as had seem some very impressive photographs of delicious looking food on their instagram account. A well filtered photo of cake will get me to go anywhere. It was surprisingly quiet considering it was Mother's Day afternoon - I expected more celebratory lunches to be happening but was pleased to discover the opposite. The staff were very friendly as we went up to check out the impressive cake selection. It was very hard to choose but I found it hard to go past the warm banana bread with nutella. Em ended up choosing the same thing. As I was also feeling slightly "red wined" from the night before, I decided to test their coffee and ordered an americano. I was pleased with this decision. The coffee was very good - rich, well roasted and it had a nice creamer on the top which is always a good sign. Our thick slabs of warm banana bread arrived coated in a thick layer of chocolate spread. It was gooooood although I have to say that my own banana bread is better. This one lacked... well... banana. But it was definitely delicious and I am going to go back for more cake trials soon.

Parvinder H.

Yelp
Great cafe with a good selection of food. There's always lots of people in here and there's a good feel to the place. My favourite is coming in for brunch. The matcha iced tea is really great. They let dogs in but I guess everywhere has some flaws.

Ian M.

Yelp
Open outlook, good coffee, and a standing desk to sit at ;) I think I'm doing that right? I managed 45 minutes before deciding a pew was a good idea. There's tall seats that are just the job, before I stood again. Worth giving a go I reckon :)

Hugo F.

Yelp
I really liked this place, it was great for a quick meet up with a friend and a chat, they seemed chilled out and attentive. The snacks and sandwiches looked good although on this occasion I did not partake I am sure I will in the future. The hot chocolate was good and not too milky, which often it is these days. The staff were really very lovely we sat until they closed and it did not feel like they were pushing us out of the door at all. I know the NQ does not suffer from a lack of coffee shops but this is one that I will and in fact have been back too because it does not feel pretentious in any way, unlike some of the others who have let the fame go to their heads... It feels fairly cozy and homely to me which helps.

Stu H.

Yelp
The food was lovely, very fresh tasting. The scrambled egg substantial and of high quality. Fantastic bagels. The service could be little bit slicker but was by no means bad. Don't know where the bagels are sourced but are way above supermarket standard. Perhaps they could showcase them a little more!

Beck R.

Yelp
my gosh this is good! warm lighting on a dark night. low music, gentle atmosphere. This place is just spot on. This is my second visit and i've ordered the chicken salad (with rocket, quinoa, nuts and sun dried tomatoes) and i'm in heaven. Proper salad. Also, since my last visit (when they first opened they have introduced an option on the hot chocs. White, milk or dark. The dark is wonderful. This is definitely the sort of place to tempt me out of my back bedroom office offering a lovely haven to work.

Jack H.

Yelp
Ezra and Gill. Top five for breakfast in the NQ. Great food , great coffee, dog friendly .

Huttson L.

Yelp
An industrial canteen-style cafe & restaurant On my first visit the joint is jumping, the cake selection is on point and there's every coffee or tea option you could want. There's intimate seating for two, long refectory tables, a booth, window benches: almost too much choice! The kitchen's on view, reminding you that much of the food is made on site and it looks great quality. It's an informal affair here, and on a Saturday lunch time it's not rammed, filled with families, groups of friends, couples, a few people on their laptops. Service is good and could stand some improvement, but for a new place I'll forgive them this once. Coffee is good: I opted for the special of the day, salted caramel latte, and a slice of date and walnut cake, refueling before I head back on to the mean streets of the Northern Quarter. I'll be back!

Khaled A.

Yelp
We had my birthday brunch here. The food was amazing, I had the plate you see in the attached photo, crushed avocado with pouched egg on a sour dough bread. The Moca was delicious. The staff were helpful and pleasant. ONE THING I DIDNT LIKE, it's fine to let pets in the resturant and hand them a treat, but feeding a dog from a customer plate is not something I would like to see in a resturant.

Alana G.

Yelp
The food was great! The staff are all warm, welcoming, and helpful, and the food is delicious. This will definitely be my go to restaurant when I visit Manchester.

David C.

Yelp
Nice restaurant, nice buzz about it, lovely food and great coffee. Only three stars though because the queuing is painfully slow. Waiting for a table, waiting to order, waiting to pick up drinks. I expect they are losing business passing by when people see the queues. I had a classic breakfast and the eggs were absolutely fantastic. Was it worth the wait? Probably just about but I think a little thought about the logistics when customers come in would go a long way and make this an absolute must. Also, why no bacon?!

Sarah E.

Yelp
I love this place. So much so, that when I'd forgotten the name of it a few months ago, I spent weeks just trying to hunt it down again. They have lots of lovely snacks and hot drinks, but the real reason I love this place goes well beyond the food. It's huge, there are lots of tables, fast wifi, and it's open late - perfect for bringing your laptop and getting a bit of work done. It's my trusty fallback when I'm fed up of studying in the library and want to change things up.

Stephanie D.

Yelp
We came here for brunch and absolutely loved our meals! The food was fresh and delicious, coffee was also really good. The portions were generous. The atmosphere and decor were nice, and it would be a great spot to get some work done. I highly recommend Ezra & Gil if you are in the area!
