Fagaras is a range of mountains that are located in the center of Romania, named after the nearby city of Fagaras. They are very popular among the locals as the mountain range is vast, with many mountain peaks, and there are many trekking routes. Fagaras holds the highest peak in Romania, Varful Moldoveanu, at 2,544m, and it also includes 7 more peaks above 2,500m. The most famous road in Romania, Transfagarasan road, runs across the range and it is one of the most scenic routes by car in the country. The road is closed during the winter due to the heavy snowfall.

If you are in Romania you have to do only three things: Eat Mici, drive the transfagarasan road and go to these mountains, it is amazing. Be sure that you are prepared because the trails are not easy and the weather can change rapidly. If you plan to sleep at a tent I recommend doing that at lacul avrig. Watch for the bears.

One of the best places to visit in Romania if you love high mountains. Make sure you are phisically prepared and have the right gear, as weather can change rapidly, even in summer. In winter, go only after a thorough preparation.
