Is Montana's Wild Heart a Match for 'Aspenification?' | Condé Nast Traveler

"Suggested as the place to head for drinks in Livingston, this pub is woven into a quintessential local circuit alongside historic hotels and old‑school theaters. It caters to visitors who want to support small, year‑round businesses and blend into the town’s relaxed, unpretentious nightlife rather than chase a high‑gloss resort bar vibe." - Jessica Chapel

Absolutely delicious!!! We had a truly amazing meal here And it was a fun place to watch some of the football games in the pub section of the restaurant. The food was absolutely outstanding I don't have a picture of the shepherd's pie but it was one of the best I've had in a long time! Pictured here was the corned beef with cabbage which was also really delicious and the Irish stew is really good too. Can't wait to go back!

Google
It was nice to find a good Irish pub out here. The ambiance is very familiar and welcoming. The service is friendly and accommodating. The food was every but as good as the Irish pubs I've eaten in around the world. Today we had the Irish stew to start and it was delicious. We followed it up with bangers and mash and a few pints of black and tans and had a wonderful time. For those that follow me know i have been to hundreds of pubs and I would rate this one up there with some of the best.

We loved it here! Out here in Livingston, a lot of restaurants close at 9pm, but this gem is open late! We were craving a late dinner, so we decided to go here! I am so glad we did. Everything about it was awesome. The vibe, the location, the service, the food, and all were excellent! We really love that they play live music, that makes the vibe that much better. For our appetizer, we got the cod bites and for our entrees, we got the fried chicken sandwich and the wings! Everything was a 10/10! Put this on your list! Highly recommend.

Google
Stopped in on our was thru town for dinner. This is a great little bar/restaurant. It's not very big, but it is a must try. The food is delicious and hearty portions, so you will not leave hungry but with a to go box. Great representation of traditional Irish food and beer. They have a really nice outdoor patio, but due to weather, it was closed. Since we stayed in town, we didn't have to worry about driving and it was a short walk from the hotel, so we enjoyed a few pints.

Google
Excellent food great service awesome beer menu! And a great Irish atmosphere!

Google
Love this spot for a good meal in Livingston. Legit fish n' chips, and the deviled eggs are amazing. Might also be the best burger in Livvy! Good selection on beers on tap. Outdoor patio seating in the summer. Highly recommended if you are looking for food and drink in downtown Livingston!

Google
Great post hike lunch spot. Cold beer. Warm food. Friendly service. The cod bites are delicious. And the shepherds pie is excellent.

Yelp
Went to the Mint bar first and there was a guy working who was not very welcoming and then we stumbled across this cute little place that was amazing!! Our server was friendly and attentive. Food was yummy, steak was very bland!

Yelp
We stopped here for the second time. Service was great, it's a super fun place to hang out and our food was delicious. We had shepherds pie and wings. Both were great and our drinks were perfectly made. The decor is super fun and the staff here is top notch. If you're in Livingston, definitely stop in and grab some food.

Yelp
This is not a British or Irish Pub. There is nothing authentic about it. The Irish stew is not Irish stew. Slow service. Drinks were good, so if just here for drinks, you're ok. The huckleberry margaritas were delicious, and beer is beer. I did not see a single person finish their food, with most people seemingly unimpressed, myself included. Never had it where I disliked shepherd's pie, but again that's not shepherd's pie, that's prison food on a skillet. The owners have a long ways to go for this place to truly be a good restaurant and pub. There are many wonderful restaurants in Livingston that are 5 star choices, but this isn't it.

Yelp
Pretty damn good. Okay, Livingston! Recommend the "Shamrock" Salad (ignore the name; it's fresh and delicious). Crispy arugula and snap peas, great dressing. The wings were excellent. Soft pretzel was a crowd pleaser, though dipping cheese would be a better accompaniment :). The fries are just ok, so swap for a salad if you can. Burger was basic and good. Service was a bit slow and tables took a while to clear, but there was one person there all afternoon, and we appreciate her. :) Nice mix of locals and out of towners.

Yelp
Excellent service The food was incredible. We had the Shepherd's pie which was the best ever! The drinks were amazing and the music was spot on!! Good vibes.

Yelp
The Fainting Goat on Monday night. My party and I are regulars and typically enjoy our visits, though we've noticed the food can be hit or miss -- we've only ever sent something back once. This time, we ordered smash burgers from the late-night menu, which clearly stated that they come with fries. However, we were served potato chips instead. When we questioned it, we were told the menu had changed and that we had been given an outdated version. We ended up ordering fries and paying extra for them, despite the fact that the original menu listed them as included. I went back in and asked to speak with a manager to voice my concern, mainly to ensure this doesn't continue to happen to other customers. Instead of a constructive conversation, I was met with sarcasm -- the manager asked if I was "the one crying about [my] smash burger." I clarified that my issue wasn't about the burger itself, but about being misled by the menu and charged extra for an item that should have been included. When I mentioned that this could be considered false advertising or even bait-and-switch -- which are serious concerns -- the manager told me I could come in for a refund and just never come back. He also accused us of "always having something to complain about," which is simply untrue. This experience was not only frustrating but completely unprofessional. I wanted to bring this to your attention in the hopes that it can be addressed properly. Misleading menus and rude customer service are unacceptable -- especially for loyal customers.

Yelp
Decent burger, super nice staff. Vibe was kinda dreary, but it was a rainy Tuesday night, so I would be willing to give them another try on a weekend.
google avatar

Yelp
The Fainting G.O.A.T - entertaining and lively ambiance, excellent service and the menu offers a wide selection. Sitting at the bar provided great conversations with both visitors and locals. Go with an open heart, relax and enjoy this quaint Irish pub. Say hi to Josh and Chester behind the bar and get the mint mojito or Midas Crush

Rick R.

Yelp
Fish and chips were WAY overcooked. Maybe sat under the heat lamp too long? Nice pub, good outdoor space on a warm night
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! Probably some of the best food I've had since moving out to Montana! I haven't been in a good Irish pub since nyc! Their deviled eggs and pretzels are ridiculously good! The beer cheese! THE F*^ING BEER CHEESE!!! I dream about these apps! The Mac n cheese was so good too. I really wanted fish n chips but I was so full of painkillers cocktails and apps I couldn't fit it! I'll just have to go back! This is a big yes if you're passing through Livingston! And the open mic was sick

Yelp
Came in the place seemed chaotic. It wasn't very busy so I was surprised. I was not greeted with a smile but a more sit wherever the hell you want attitude. Which is whatever. I ordered drinks they did not come as described (muddling and infusing into a syrup are two very different things...) they also used well for a 14$ cocktail. Tried to give the food a chance that was a mistake. It took a very long time and I think I'm still trying to swallow the corned beef. Oh might I add it came out cold. The 18$ burger also had a stale cold bun. My rule is have your prices reflect how amazing your food is the quality at least. This place was overpriced the bartender wasn't experienced the service was slow. Might I add the lighting made me feel like I was on the set of it's always sunny. Me and my friend looked at eachother and almost at the same time said "can we never go back there again??"

Danielle R.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Fish & chips were very good. Nice atmosphere that you would expect in a small town in Montana. Definitely worth it to stop.

Dan A.

Yelp
Service was solid environment was nice but food was just ok. Messed up someone's order in my party. Mac and cheese was absolutely disgusting. Food came out really quick though and pretzel appetizer was delicious.
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
Food was delicious. I had the Craic (Mac) & Cheese, husband ordered too much with the Irish stew (with Guinness bread) and a G.O.A.T. Burger. Service was as expected on a busy Friday night. It is a little on the loud side, even when the musicians took a break..but as long as you are aware it's a fun loud.
google avatar

Panzer S.

Yelp
Atmosphere was good, too loud in bar for conversation. Wife had Whiskey salmon , too lemony, peas from a can. I had the so-called waygu beef? Med rare? Nope! Strips of warmed up overdone potroast leftovers, terrible! Mashed potatoes were melted into plate and hard and grey! So waitresses was a young novice, we ordered the bread pudding with two spoons and whipped cream on top, well we couldn't find our waitress after 15 minutes she was talking with others. Finally hostess saw our plait and brought over our warmed bread pudding with soupy whip cream running off the plate! Horrible. Wanted to go to Livingston but closed for lack of help. Chose elsewhere!

Renee W.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the Fainting Goat - just went for drinks so sitting at the bar and enjoying good conversation over drinks was lovely. Make a mean gin and tonic and they also have Blanton's...
google avatar

Sonya B.

Yelp
Now under new ownership, this spot has always been a fun destination. Great music and an energetic staff create an exciting vibe. They offer an Irish inspired menu. Not hungry? No problem; you'll enjoy a great bar experience inside or outside.

Yelp
We stopped in Livingston for the night and were happily surprised to find the Fainting Goat Pub (FGP) open after 8pm. The downtown area is such a gem to see. Grace was our server and she was sweet, quick and very friendly. The FGP served up some amazing Irish dishes and we were not disappointed. We actually had a hard time choosing between the four dishes we ordered: Irish Stew with soda bread, Hot Pretzel with Beer Cheese, Irish Cheddar Mac and, of course, Bangers and Mash. Don't let the crummy lighting fool you. This was absolutely amazing! Irish Stew was my absolute favorite part, followed by the Mac. The pretzel was even more amazing in the Mac n cheese sauce, it really put the flavor over the top for me.
google avatar

Olivia W.

Yelp
I've never ate dinner in Livingston; I will say Fainting Goat did not disappoint! My two friends and I all ordered the same item, the chicken cesar salad. The salad was delicious and the added chicken was I'm not kidding, some of the best chicken I have had. It was juicy and tender, exactly what you want chicken to be. The summer cocktails are yummy as well. The Jalapeño margarita has a kick I have never experienced before and the Watermelon Mojito was so refreshing. The service was excellent as well. She was very attentive, answered all the questions we had, and made sure we were satisfied. The atmosphere inside was average, but the outside on the patio was perfect!
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
What a lovely venue for an Irish pub! It resides in the historic part of downtown - an entrance through the Main Street side or through the beautiful patio area on the side. We opted for indoors. I love the old floors and historic decor. Lots of brews on tap. We opted for the summer specials - frozen huckleberry margarita and a jalapeño margarita. Both perfect! We started with wings - super crispy outside and moist inside. Then the Shamrock Salad was super fresh and good with that mustard vinaigrette! It was quiet when we came in for lunch but quickly filled. There are more things we want to try but they were out of corned beef today! We are in the area for a while but will be back to try more. Excellent service from Tony. We will be back.

Yelp
Amazing Food Amazing Service Staff are so humble. Amazing vibes. Was visiting Montana for BFF weeding.

David L.

Yelp
Upon arrival the a female bartender just looked at our party strangely, alien like, did not say anything, through minimal communication we figured out you find your own seat, sit down, service was slow throughout, 45 mins before drinks arrived. Might not even see what the food tastes like.
google avatar

Mazen L.

Yelp
Amazing burgers and great atmosphere. We had the GOAT burger , it was bursting with flavors . Generous portions of salad and fries as well.
google avatar

Kat K.

Yelp
On the road we have been eating heavy and fatty foods. I was excited to stop and grab a huge, delicious pea salad where I added smoked salmon. The vinaigrette was a bit sweet with all of the delicious peas (including snow, snap, and peas in a pod) so the salty smoky salmon was a perfect pairing. My partner got the club with a house salad. The club was a better than standard version and the side salad was a huge portion. We forgot to take pictures before we got half way through our lunch. Fast but on a Friday afternoon filled up with lots of tables enjoying the company of waiters and friends/family.

Carol E.

Yelp
Food was good! Nice variety of Irish fare. Bloody Mary was well done. Service was ok, but there was a large group in the front, so sometimes our waitress disappeared for awhile. We weren't in a hurry, but had we been it would have been inconvenient.
google avatar

Jaimee M.

Yelp
Good food, good service. Nice atmosphere with lots of old pictures on the wall. We got a burger with a bison/ wagyu beef patty and corned beef with cabbage. Everything was good I would eat here again.
google avatar

Yelp
Important note: the women's bathroom is downstairs. Solid food on the way back to Billings. Table had bangers and mash, mac and cheese, and I had a burger. As a pickle person, Montana is different in what is served. This place gives bread and butter pickles on the burger. I prefer dill: chips, a spear, a whole ass pickle but dill please. I think the bread and butter were homemade but could use more spice mixture and time in the brine honestly. This quick pickle idea that triple D is pushing ain't it. Let them sit in the brine. Is this a Southern thing? Can't be bc there are some pickles in Philly that are worth the drive alone. My bad, pickle ramble. Missing star on the server, we had to ask for everything the whole time. Be more intuitive. But that could be that we weren't as interesting as the table she knew next to us.

Yelp
Great location. Epic burgers and bartender was so friendly. A totally win for a quick bite

Yelp
Food and Ambiance was great. The service was much to be desired. Party of 4 had their meal come out 2 plates then 1 then 15 minutes later came the second salad. After 10 minutes after ordering a beer we canceled it and got a comment from the waitress under her breath at the table next to us. Made a comment back and she proceeded to back talk after asking for her to stop twice asking her to go away. Then the bartender made a comment under his breath to add to the bad attitudes of the wait staff. Too bad again, because the food was good. BTW We have had a combination of 30 years in the restaurant business.

Gerry M.

Yelp
The food was excellent - I had the stew and soda bread and Caesar salad and hubby had bangers and mash. Didn't likely my cocktail but food made up for it. Was very noisy inside but was a Friday night. Our waitress was excellent and attentive but not overly.
google avatar

Bri J.

Yelp
Food, service, drinks, & atmosphere were all good. Went midday and had a decent crowd.

Yelp
Great experience. Friendly service and great food! Recommend the Scottish Salmon and BLT.

Roger B.

Yelp
Great food and service. I had the shepherds pie, my son had the grilled cheese. Really hit the spot after a long road trip.

Yelp
Service was a little slow but it was busy so understandable. The food and beer were good!

Yelp
Fun local spot in Livingston, MT serving up local pub fare. Great patio for sitting outside during warm summer days!

Yelp
What a great place to hang. Excellent service and super friendly staff. Delicious food. I should have taken a picture. We'll be back here for sure

Nancy M.

Yelp
A Guiness, Irish Stew and my November autumn afternoon is complete. Hubs loved the cod bites. Love the people. Cool bar. Fainting Goat is the craic.
google avatar

Margaret R.

Yelp
Don't miss out on the curry fries. Everything I've tried there has been delicious. Fast friendly service.
google avatar

Kay M.

Yelp
Great little spot. During the summer they open up their patio and have fun summer drinks. Friendly service, during brunch there was one guy busting his butt during their peak hours. Glad to have this spot in town!
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
I like a good Irish pub and The Fainting Goat didn't disappoint. We (4 of us) had Shepherds Pie (2), Fish and Chips and Corned Beef and Cabbage. All were delicious. My jalapeño margarita was tasty, too. Austin was our server and he was on it. The atmosphere was perfect. No complaints.
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
The food, drinks and atmosphere was amazing. Our family of six all enjoyed their choices ranging from shepherd pie, to the G.O.A.T. Burger, salads, soup, Irish Board and kid's menu. Highly recommend this gem of Livingston. Our service was great, and even had the head chef stop by and talk to us.

Ali M.

Yelp
Great outside bar area with great servers! Food was great especially the hamburger! Fun place to sit outside and have a few drinks.

Sam R.

Yelp
Visited Livingston before our afternoon flight back to San Diego and stumbled upon the Fainting Goat Pub. The food is excellent. It came to the table all at once and hot. The deviled eggs are amazing and highly recommended as an app. The Shepard Pie and Irish stew were delicious. Of course the Guinness was poured to perfection. This is a pub I would visit again and again. It also has a really great patio with it's own bar.
google avatar

Kathy N.

Yelp
Love the feel of this place and great beer. We will definitely go again. Pretzels were great.

Andy L.

Yelp
Went there for a birthday celebration and food was terrible, I was embarrassed that I suggested this place. Tried the cake after the dinner and it was old and had the I've been in the fridge to long taste. One bite and that was enough. The waitress took that off our bill. They were out of my favorite beer and it was not a good experience.

Marlo F.

Yelp
Food was mediocre at best. Service was worse. Waitress had an attitude. She had quite a mouth after rendering such poor service. There has to be better places in town.

Danielle E.

Yelp
They serve my favorite stew in all of Montana. I would give it 5 stars every time. The staff are very friendly as well.

James W.

Yelp
The only restaurant that cooks a rare burger RARE! The best I've ever had! To top it off, I got an extra beer! Definitely will be returning!

Tress C.

Yelp
Had the fish and chips it was fantastic. Service was impeccable the people I went with are always a pain the the ass but the waitress took it all in stride. Will definitely go back on my own.
