Our party of four recently stayed at this not-a-full-service-hotel from Friday 7/21 to Monday 7/24, booked through Expedia. Our original arrival time should have been around 11:00 PM on the Friday night, but due to heavy rain and mechanical issues, we arrived to our hotel to check in at around 2:30 AM on Saturday. We had called Fairfield Inn when we landed from our flight at 1:40 AM to ensure that we still had a room. It took 2 calls for someone to answer and confirm that there was still a room available for us. Upon arrival at the hotel, a key is required to get in after hours. We we're very impressed at the security to protect guests at night, unfortunately, that also meant that it took 5 minutes waiting outside the hotel, after we pressed the intercom for someone to let us in. I generally have no issue with waiting 5 minutes, but having been stuck in a crowded and airless airplane for 3+ hours, then to arrive in 80° weather with 100% humidity, yes.... I'm going to be a little cranky. However, when you have to wait 5 minutes for someone to let you in, then proceeded to have them tell you that they do not have a record of your reservation, then proceeded to take 20 minutes to check you into the hotel, advised you that you have the 2nd to last room in the hotel, and that there is a good chance in the morning you would have to check out and go into another room because the room available is due for an "engineering project", this alone would get no star. However, the person working with us was truly and genuinely trying to assist, fine. Thank you for trying.
Our hotel room according to front desk, had two king size beds. The room was elegantly designed with high ceilings, gorgeous paintings of New Orleans on the head board by Janet Van Arsdale, and modern furnishing. It was a lovely room. We felt that the bed was falsely advertised because it was a queen size bed. The blue carpeted floor board was peeling off the wall. The faucet in the bathroom had a leak that would not stop. For a large room that should can house up to 5 adults, there were only 4 available outlets.
After getting 5 hours of sleep in our comfy "king size beds", we went downstairs to get complimentary breakfast buffet. Breakfast included a make your own waffle bar, cooked hot oatmeal with fixings ( fried mixed fruits, dried cranberries, chopped walnuts, and brown sugar), instant grits, a small container of shredded mixed cheese, hot foods ( scrambled eggs, mini cheese omelette, pork sausage patties/ or Canadian bacon, and turkey sausage links), mixed fruits ( cut up pineapple, honey dew and cantaloupe), bananas, apples, mini cereal bar( corn flakes, cheerios, and fruit loops), cold milk and yogurt, selection of carbs ( breads, muffins, bagels, and mini beignets), and juices/ hot coffee. I was impressed with the breakfast bar which is available from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday/Sunday, and 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM on Monday to Friday.
After we had breakfast, we went to check with the front desk if we needed to move rooms so they can do their engineering project. We were advised that the hotel was completely booked, so we can stay in the room. The front desk made an entire fiasco regarding the validity of our stay because they did not have our confirmation number from Expedia. After wasting 20 minutes of our time. The manager apologizes and gives us 2 complimentary drink vouchers for 4 people.
Overall it's a beautiful hotel. There is a decent hot breakfast in the morning, the rooms are nice, the beds are comfy, the lobby is beautiful, but the service is awful.
