"It’s all about Old World elegance at Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa. Upon arrival, guests are immediately transported from bustling Johannesburg to a bucolic French countryside château. With names like Empire, Provençal, and Bismarck, the suites evoke a European feel, complete with frescoed walls, gilded details, and canopied beds. But don’t be fooled by the lavish decor. This isn’t a stodgy affair. The Fairlawns is a 21st-century abode, with all the fittings to match: plush linens, rain showers, underfloor heating, and free Wi-Fi, to name a few. The Balinese spa and the celebrated high tea have helped make the hotel a fixture on the Joburg social scene, so guests are likely to bump into local movers and shakers as they stroll along the rolling lawns."

The property is made up of several buildings. The restaurant and main reception area is separate from the building with most of the guest rooms. It was raining the first day. Although they had umbrellas, it was a bit slippery and messy walking from the room to the restaurant. The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. The main guest room building had a lovely upstairs sitting room with the rooms around it. Our group was able to gather there to socialize on our free afternoon. The restaurant had a nice menu. The staff was amazingly attentive. The pool area and the spa were very luxurious and afforded us a wonderful and restful last day in Africa before we embarked on the long journey home to the states. |The only downside was that the property was in the middle of a neighborhood and it was not possible to walk around at all. it was remote from the actual city of Johannesburg. There was a shuttle service to two local malls where there was shopping and restaurants. But, there was no way to actually see the local area.

I went to this Spa on Saturday-15 November, beautiful place to relax. The scenery is amazing and the esthetics are so beautiful. I would definitely come back. Just a suggestion if you can ask the therapists to maybe have short nails as my therapist nails got a bit uncomfortable during the massage at some point. I also went for the November special, the special said "free gift" but I never received the free gift, maybe I missed it 🫣 Overall, the experience was amazing, the food was one of my highlights and the facilities would keep you there the whole day.

We had the Tea in the Woods experience, and it was absolutely wonderful. Every little detail was so well thought out, making it feel truly special. We got to explore a variety of delicious teas paired with an amazing selection of sweet and savory treats , all beautifully presented and simply delectable. You can really taste the care and passion that went into everything. Chef Gareth and his team were incredible, ensuring the experience was seamless and memorable from start to finish. It’s a unique and delightful experience that I’d highly recommend ,definitely a must-try!

We had our high tea at this place, and it was an awesome experience in the themed room for the event. The staff explains the menu and the varieties of teas they serve, so the ladies can choose what goes with their palette. Later, when the group after us were arriving, they moved us to another area , which was still aestethically pleasing, and perfect for mingling. I would visit the venue again, perhaps for a spa session or book a restaurant for lunch.

If five-star places are for you, then you will love Fairlawns. If you like your stays to come with more than a bit of pretentiousness, then that is doubly true.||Fairlawns, on the outskirts of Jo'burg, is majestic. Everything is overdone. It used to be a private estate. I read that it belonged to the former head of DeBeers. That shows.||Each room is unique and themed. We stayed in the polo room with all decorations of horses and polo gear. The phrase "over the top" comes to mind.||We had very mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, it is top tier in every respect. We are not adverse to nice places and five-star resorts. Fairlawns is every bit that. On the other hand, like an oversized diamond, there is lots of flash here and little understatement. Given the extreme poverty endemic to much of Africa, including neighborhoods less than a mile away, the whole presentation is a bit much.||We were glad to be booked here and had a nice one-night stay. Complete with an excellent dinner. Though the next morning, we were also glad to leave.

Fairlawns Spa 10/10 This place left its mark on me! I loved every inch and yes, it really is this beautiful, no filter needed. In fact, it's even more beautiful in person. Wow is all I can say. I'm truly speechless. The facilities, staff, and atmosphere were just as amazing as the treatments itself. I think I've found my favorite spa. Well deserved 10/10 from me and will definitely visit again!

We had a business high-tea and it was the most amazing experience. The place is nestled in the hustle and bustle of northern JHB but once you enter the grounds… it’s peace and serenity abound. The gardens are lovely and the atmosphere is very relaxed.

The spa “through the forest” is an incredible place to relax and catch your breath. Julia is an the most wonderful massage therapist with smooth movements at the pressure you ask for. I’d definitely come back just for her. It’d be lovely if other spa guests enjoying the facilities like the pool would be considerate and honor spa etiquette by not having the video calls on maximum speaker volume as this take away from others trying to enjoy a peaceful afternoon.
