Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is in a truly world-class location, and the pool views remain unparalleled. However, it is heartbreaking to see a place with this much potential falling into such disrepair. To put it bluntly: the resort is well past its prime and feels like it’s falling apart.
While we managed to have a good time, the lack of maintenance is becoming a major safety issue. In our room, the banister was broken, posing a legitimate fall hazard (see video). The 6th-floor deck felt *very* unsafe as the railing was visibly separating from the wall, suggesting the entire deck may fall off the building if there's too much weight on it (see photo). Absolutely do not spend time on them as a 60 foot drop would be a near certain fall to your death. Both of these are injury at best, death at worst, and I am absolutely baffled that the resort is willing to take on this liability.
Inside, the aesthetic was equally tired—veneer was worn through, and the bathroom trim was dingy and scarred. Beds were blown out with some of the most uncomfortable pillows I've ever used. Even the kitchenette lacked quality. The dishes were cheap plastic you’d expect from a dollar store and we had to ask for dishwasher detergent every day of our stay.
Everyone we spoke to was nice and professional, but they need to hire more cleaning staff. There were several socks and some garbage left under the beds from prior guests which makes me question whether the room had been cleaned at all.
The amenities were also a letdown:
Steam Room: Out of service for all 4 days of our stay.
Sauna: Creaking and appears to be rotting.
There were kids yelling & running up and down the halls until late at night which wasn't relaxing for adults but kids will be kids, so I wasn't too bothered. Probably a better place for families than a couple's retreat. Regardless, bring earplugs because the doors are not soundproof.
The most telling moment of our trip was speaking to an elderly couple who has celebrated their anniversary here for 25 years. They told us this would be their last time because the neglect has become too much to ignore.
This place used to be beautiful and could be amazing again, but the owners need to stop neglecting the property before someone dies or the damage becomes irreversible.
