Overall, the Fairmont Rio is a great luxury option located in the heart of Ipanema. The location could not be better - right by the beach and located near many shops and restaurants. Most staff members took their hospitality delivery to heart and made us feel extra special taken care of. Specifically, Daniel and Veronica from the Front Desk, Jacqueline from the Gold Lounge, Felipe our Gold Butler, and Nuebe from Management.
We faced some challenges with suite noise, and the entire team leaned in to make sure we were able to find a suitable suite with peace and privacy. I greatly encourage the hotel to invest in double-paned windows and doors for the rooms, it would make such a difference in enjoyment.
The rooms and suites feel like 1950 Rio Glamour, and I loved the hardwood floors and marble bathrooms. Linens, such as the towels and bed sheets, were very high quality cotton from Trousseau. The Trousseau shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. smelled divine and was so high quality that we bought some from the Spa shop to take home. Some of the rooms are beginning to get a musty smell to it given the age of the building, so I encourage Management to do everything they can now to reduce the musty smell before it gets too late.
Both pools are a sanctuary to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. On weekends they could be crowded, so make sure to be strategic about when you go to the pool. Food and beverages generally were delicious and reasonably priced given it is a luxury resort. The breakfast area in the main restaurant had a great selection of buffet and a-la-carte to order menu as well as a beautiful wraparound terrace with STUNNING views of Rio. We enjoyed that so much.
We enjoyed the Gold Lounge as a private reprieve with wonderful service. We greatly enjoyed the breakfast and the evening canapés with the bartender who would make you whatever your heart desired. The staff at the Gold Desk were always available and helped us right away. PLEASE change the air scent in the Gold Lounge to something like a tropical coconut essential oil -- right now the air scent smells like a medical facility, it detracts, not adds, to the environment.
Overall we would 100% come back to this luxury haven. Thank you to the staff for their warm hospitality. We'll see you again soon.
