The Best Hotels in Barbados

"Arriving via the grand palm tree-lined avenue sets the tone for what is one of the most historic properties in Barbados. The Fairmont Royal Pavilion was formerly The Miramar Hotel, built in the 1940s and the first hotel to be constructed on the west coast of Barbados. These days, its 12 rooms have since been expanded to 75 showstoppers—all with unspoiled ocean views and featuring handcrafted woodwork, local artworks, and navy-blue accents. Stay in one of the ground floor rooms and you can pad across the sand every morning for a dip in the sea. Upper-level rooms have their own advantages—breezy terraces with curvy rattan daybeds and endless views over the arc of Alleynes Bay. The hotel has heritage sewn into its shell-pink walls, so you can expect traditional afternoon teas and refined Bajan cuisine conjured up by chef Tim Palmer (the crab cake with coconut curry emulsion is the star of the show). The glorious gardens, originally designed by renowned South American landscape architect, Fernando Tabora, are a joy. Atriums and shady paths are lined with mango, breadfruit, cherry, and banana trees; frangipani cascades over courtyards and ponds are pretty with red and white lilies which bloom at night. Book a botanical tour every Wednesday morning to find out more about some of the rare plants and discover that there’s more to this coastline than just the beach. —Angelina Villa-Clarke" - Angelina Villa-Clarke, Rosalyn Wikeley

We just returned from a 7 nights to celebrate my birthday and our 40th wedding anniversary. The property is absolutely beautiful—small, intimate, right on the ocean with a lovely beach and great views. Service was wonderful throughout, and housekeeping twice a day kept everything spotless.||||Transfers were included both ways. Departure was smooth, but arrival was messy. There was confusion and some chaos, and the team had to find alternative transportation instead of the prearranged transfer being ready.||||Check-in also didn’t hit the mark. After a long travel day, not receiving the welcome drink that was meant to be offered didn’t set the right tone. We followed up the next day and received it then.||||The Palm Terrace restaurant was closed with no advance notice, which left only one restaurant open. While breakfast was excellent, the main menu became repetitive and the food overall was just average. We did have a pre-booked private dinner on the beach for our anniversary, and that was fantastic—great food and attentive service.||||We booked a beachfront suite that advertised a butler, daily canapés, and afternoon tea. These perks were disappointing. The butlers appeared inconsistently, the canapés were poor, and the tea was mediocre. At this price point, these extras need to be much better—or not offered at all.||||Overall, it’s a gorgeous property in a stunning location, and we would return—but only after confirming Palm Terrace is operating. For a quiet getaway in a beautiful setting, it’s a lovely choice as long as expectations are set correctly.

Great location. Sea and beach area superb. We had a ground floor suite and the room was superb with a great deck and on the beach. It was also very quiet at night (the aircon was noisy but we slept well with it off) Breakfast choice was very good and was included in our daily rate. Some Water sports for free which we used each day and well run by Ryan and Derrick who were always very attentive. The Butler service we didnt really use as we are able to book things online eg Uber are now active in Barbados and Opentable for restaurants etc. ||So the reason it was average when it really should have been outstanding was the level of service. When you book a 5 star hotel at E1,000 per night you expect the staff to care for you to a decent level and u expect service from all with a smile. It was so hit and miss. Some were a pleasure to deal with and were professional and caring but all too often you were made to feel you were either interrupting the staffs own fun time or you were an inconvenience. Such a pity as we understand the Caribbean culture is to be relaxed but the lack of consistent service was a huge disappointment. You pay 5 star rates not 3 star so u expect decent friendly service. For example pre dinner drinks can take an age as nobody seems to want to take the order. We only ate once other than breakfast as so many of the restaurants nearby have decent service eg Nauti HQ

I've wanted to check this place out for a while, and it did not disappoint: - Excellent service; the team from front desk to the restaurant to the pool to housekeeping to in-room dining were attentive, professional, cheerful and kind. In particular, when I experienced a flight cancellation with no hope of rebooking, the team immediately held a room for me and were incredibly accommodating, mitigating my distress and ensuring I could enjoy an unexpected extra day in paradise. - The hotel is small but charming and has beautiful landscaping. My rooms there were in good condition, considering the harsh wear and tear of being so close to the water. The balcony was spacious and comfortable, practically an additional room where I loved to have room service dinner as every room has a million dollar sunset view. Some rooms were under renovation while I was there, so there was some construction noise in the morning and one of the restaurants was closed, but I understand it's necessary for older properties and I am glad Fairmont is maintaining these historic buildings. - The star of the property is the fantastic beach, where every seat is front-row and the water is as gentle and clear as a swimming pool. I enjoyed checking out free snorkels and saw lots of tropical fish on the jetty directly in front of the hotel. - This hotel is ideal for people looking for a quiet getaway. They never play music too loud, and even the public spaces have an air of seclusion and privacy. You are never too close to other guests.

I’ll be honest and frank with this. Chose this hotel because our cruise line (Seabourn) recommended it.|$1500 plus a night for our two night stay. |Firstly the room: King bed oceanfront.|Nice room, comfortable and clean, certainly not outstanding in any way, view is lovely.|Kettle don’t work in room and no room service menu. I asked a total of FIVE times for one to be provided. Still did not get one.||Pool restaurant:||Went there at 5.30pm, barely greeted by hostess, told to sit at a table that had no chairs..|Ordered food. Two appetizers and two cokes came to $188!!!!!!’|Food ordered. Nachos and crab cakes.||Breakfast Buffett:|Nice location and view . That’s the good part.|Went to station to order eggs .|Omelette took twenty mins to appear, husband two ro eggs took over thirty.|Tea was lukewarm.|Ketchup took a while to appear|Breakfast was included and I’m glad it was. $160 was the charge if we didn’t have it included.||Room service: just ordered two burgers and fries with two cokes. $168 for two burgers. |Food was inedible. I’ve had better food from a gas station.||All in all this hotel is below average in the service and food areas. Way too high prices for food that honestly isn’t up to McDonald’s standards if I’m being totally truthful.|Staff are polite and pool guys are attentive BUT service is lacking in many areas and I would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone. |Overpriced and underdeliver comes to mind

Where should I begin ? Had the most amazing 7 nights over Christmas (definitely not long enough!). As a family we had 2 rooms, both rooms were spotlessly clean, soft fluffy towels, comfiest beds and linen. Every member of staff provided exceptional service and all with a friendly smile and nothing is too much trouble. Obviously the views give you goosebumps we will definitely be back. Thank you Fairmont Royal Pavilion for the unforgettable memories.

Great location, the beach. Absolutely stunning. Rooms: due for an upgrade sooner rather than later. The hotel charges four season prices and the rooms are 4 star at best. One bottle of mineral water for your entire stay, not even wine glasses in the room. Everything (including the staff) feels tired. The restrooms in the main restaurant / probably 25 years old. Food average at best. Recognition as an Accor platinum member: 0. I never felt less welcome at an Accor property when checking in. Would not recommend. The 3 stars are generous and entirely due to the location and the walking distance to nice eateries.

Unfortunately i had way higher expectations for this propriety. The price you paid makes you expect a little more in two fronts: service and dining. The location is very good with beautiful beach and a nice feel. There are only two restaurants on site and they are really bellow a 5 star standard. There is nearly no service at the beach, so we had to keep trying to get attention of the bar staff, so if you expect to lay down and just enjoy maybe think twice. Overall the rooms were good, with amazing views.

Just had the most amazing three weeks holiday at this wonderful hotel. All the staff were amazing and did everything possible to make our trip enjoyable. Whilst there we celebrated our golden wedding anniversary and they did everything possible to make sure we had a day to remember.|The location of this hotel cannot be beaten anywhere on the island. |Cannot wait for our next trip to this magical place
