The Best Hotels in Barbados

"Arriving via the grand palm tree-lined avenue sets the tone for what is one of the most historic properties in Barbados. The Fairmont Royal Pavilion was formerly The Miramar Hotel, built in the 1940s and the first hotel to be constructed on the west coast of Barbados. These days, its 12 rooms have since been expanded to 75 showstoppers—all with unspoiled ocean views and featuring handcrafted woodwork, local artworks, and navy-blue accents. Stay in one of the ground floor rooms and you can pad across the sand every morning for a dip in the sea. Upper-level rooms have their own advantages—breezy terraces with curvy rattan daybeds and endless views over the arc of Alleynes Bay. The hotel has heritage sewn into its shell-pink walls, so you can expect traditional afternoon teas and refined Bajan cuisine conjured up by chef Tim Palmer (the crab cake with coconut curry emulsion is the star of the show). The glorious gardens, originally designed by renowned South American landscape architect, Fernando Tabora, are a joy. Atriums and shady paths are lined with mango, breadfruit, cherry, and banana trees; frangipani cascades over courtyards and ponds are pretty with red and white lilies which bloom at night. Book a botanical tour every Wednesday morning to find out more about some of the rare plants and discover that there’s more to this coastline than just the beach. —Angelina Villa-Clarke" - Angelina Villa-Clarke, Rosalyn Wikeley

I've wanted to check this place out for a while, and it did not disappoint: - Excellent service; the team from front desk to the restaurant to the pool to housekeeping to in-room dining were attentive, professional, cheerful and kind. In particular, when I experienced a flight cancellation with no hope of rebooking, the team immediately held a room for me and were incredibly accommodating, mitigating my distress and ensuring I could enjoy an unexpected extra day in paradise. - The hotel is small but charming and has beautiful landscaping. My rooms there were in good condition, considering the harsh wear and tear of being so close to the water. The balcony was spacious and comfortable, practically an additional room where I loved to have room service dinner as every room has a million dollar sunset view. Some rooms were under renovation while I was there, so there was some construction noise in the morning and one of the restaurants was closed, but I understand it's necessary for older properties and I am glad Fairmont is maintaining these historic buildings. - The star of the property is the fantastic beach, where every seat is front-row and the water is as gentle and clear as a swimming pool. I enjoyed checking out free snorkels and saw lots of tropical fish on the jetty directly in front of the hotel. - This hotel is ideal for people looking for a quiet getaway. They never play music too loud, and even the public spaces have an air of seclusion and privacy. You are never too close to other guests.

Prime location on the west side of the island. One of the most beautiful turquoise beaches steps outside our room. Couldn't make it more easy to relax and unwind! Loved waking up each morning to this view. Dawn and Renico provided great deck service for anything we needed. Concierge Tia helped make dinner reservations and plan outings to Harrison Caves and Cool Runnings Catamaran Tour. Rooms were cleaned daily including a turn down service in the evenings. Shanese was amazing! We had complimentary use of the paddle boards, Hobie Cat and kayaks at The Beach Club. We enjoyed our last morning out on the water with Ryan. He made sure we went out before having to fly back home. We had no idea what a gem The Royal Pavilion was gonna be! Getting there from the airport may be a challenge if you drive yourself or expensive if you take a shuttle. The roads were busy with unclear signage so took us about an hour to arrive at the Fairmont after flying into Bridgeport. Still raving about our time there so hope to make it back again.

We’ve been staying at the Fairmont for nearly 2 weeks. If you’re looking for a quiet beach vacation, this is a good spot. The ocean is calm, there are no harrassments on the beach to buy things. I’ve read the other reviews and have to agree that the hotel is due for a refurbish… I’m paying a Four Seasons hotel prices so I was a little disappointed that the hotel is a bit tired. It’s an excellent property - every room has an ocean view - which isn’t always easy to find. You can go to sleep listening to the waves - so the location is exceptional. Also exceptional is the friendliness of the staff, and the cleaning staff is amazing. The room is tidied twice a day. The balcony provides a lovely morning and evening retreat with comfy lounges - love it. The restaurant can use some upgrades with the menu which is limited but there are so many restaurants to try on the island - at least when we eat here it feels easy. We also had issues with the TV streaming of the World Series which they tried to remedy multiple times - apparently also a problem with their service provider. On occasions where we couldn’t get a signal, we received profuse apologies and were comped drinks at the bar where that tv streaming worked. Finally, I’ve had many spa services in the room - I recommend the jet lag massage. I would return here - I’ve had a lovely time and I hope someone invests in this property soon - it has so much potential.

⭐️ 1/10 — and that’s me being generous. I always keep it real with you guys, so here it is: @fairmontroyalpavilion looks dreamy online, but our stay was a total letdown. 🌧️ Night 1: We came back from dinner to flooded walkways—6 inches of water + mud. Zero staff help. Management was basically nonexistent the whole trip. 🍽️ Food: Only ONE restaurant open (even though they toured us through another that’s closed). Most meals were bland or just bad. The best thing I ate all week? Chicken tenders from the kids’ menu. And hygiene? Lemons/limes handed to us bare-handed. 😬 🏖️ Pool/Beach: Beach was rough and rocky, so we stayed poolside. Hot tub? Out of service. And midday the towel attendant used a leaf blower—blew debris straight into the pool and walked away. ✨ Bottom Line: Pretty photos, but that’s where the “luxury” ends. Worn-down, poorly managed, underwhelming at every level. This is my personal experience, but I would not return. 1/10 — skip it.

Holidays are made of memories — and we came home with so many to choose from. From breakfast beside the ocean to a sail along the bay on the hotel’s Hobie Cat, and evenings watching the sun set with a cocktail in hand, every part of our stay felt truly special. Hotels are nothing without great service, and the team at the Fairmont made our experience unforgettable. Every member of staff was warm, friendly, and attentive — nothing was ever too much trouble. We especially appreciated their thoughtful recommendations for discovering the island’s best sights and hidden gems. The location is simply unbeatable — we spent hours relaxing on the pristine beach and swimming in the turquoise ocean. We’ve stayed at properties across the world and this is the perfect Caribbean getaway — and one we’d highly recommend to anyone seeking luxury, relaxation, and genuine Barbadian warmth.

Amazing 10 day stay, returning in January. There is no better place to relax than The Fairmont Royal Pavilion. My family and I have enjoyed this paradise for over 30 years and will always return to our home away from home. Added bonus ... I found a bottle of Sugar Cane Brandy which has been discontinued long ago! What a find for those who know.

Warmly welcomed upon arrival and offered a welcome drink. I read the hotel was fully refurbished in 2017, well it most certainly needs another refurb. |Breakfast rather disappointing and little effort is made to keep the birds off the food. Was surprised to see smoked salmon and charcuterie sitting out in the heat for hours.cereals are soft due to humidity, they should be offered in sealed containers or small individual packets. The egg station requires a thorough steam clean. |Toaster is very poor and slow. Staff are mainly nice but the staff need to collect finished drinks etc regularly from around the pool. We had cups sat there for well over two hours and the hotel is not busy. The staff are too busy chatting at the bar.|The pool toilets are not good, the floor and the mastic needs scrubbing, very poor indeed.|The rooms are quite well appointed but again poor cleaning lets them down especially in the bathrooms our shower had very grubby mastic and the waste bin in the bathroom needs to be thrown out. Our room had a stained carpet , not pleasant to look at. Public areas also a little shabby but the gardens are well kept. |Given the prices charged the hotel does not attain proper five star standards which is unusual for Fairmont.|Would come again but only if improvements are made.

This was our third visit and it never disappoints. Our luxurious and comfortable room was oceanfront with chaises both on our patio and on the stunning beach. Great food and friendly service made for a wonderful stay. A shout out to Aleesha whose big friendly smile welcomed us for breakfast, to Shane who made up our chaises and ensured we were never short of towels and Mary Ann our hard working and efficient server in the restaurant. We look forward to the re-opening of Palm Court on our next visit.
