Had it not been for LivingSocial, we would have never found this not so little slice of heaven. First of all, they get an A+ on flexibility. We had to change our reservations three times because of natural disasters, the Army schedule, and construction zones on the interstate as we drove halfway across the country to get here. This is my first time staying at a bed and breakfast, and it never dawned on me that there are no employees at the front desk manning the phones late at night. When I called to change my reservations, I was never met with a feeling of putting the person who answered the phone at 11pm out of their way for calling so late. It wasn't until I checked in that I realized how rude I was being when I would call so late. Even then, it was not from anything they said or their attitudes, just my observation that there is no night staff for the front office after 10pm.
When we drove up to the front of the B&B, I felt like we had found an oasis of beauty in the middle of a blah city. The pristine front drive was surrounded with emerald green grass that has been manicured to perfection. The U shaped driveway took us right to the front door of an early 1900's colonial mansion. The large front porch filled with rocking chairs, comfy bench seats, and plantation house pillars just whisper to you, "come over, have a seat and relax for a minute." But that is nothing compared with what you experience after opening the front door.
I'll let you enjoy their website and some pictures on here for the rest of the description, but let me tell you that as beautiful as the place looks in pictures, you MUST see the place in person to experience how marvelous it is. We were met by a joyful, charming woman who helped us check in. We were delighted to find out that we were upgraded (without asking for it, and without hinting about how nice it would be to experience the suite) for our evening getaway. After walking through the entire mansion, and walking into our suite, my husband looked at me with the pleading of a small child when he asked, "Honey, can we please extend our stay for one more evening?" We couldn't wait to make our way back to the front of the mansion to ask if they had availability.
I love the staff here almost as much as I love the house. They respect your privacy, waiting until you make the small talk before they get super chatty with you. But once you get that train started with conversation, take a seat! They love to converse with their guests! From the cleaning ladies to the wait staff at the restaurant, from the front desk gals to the owners... they each have a different story and each seem to love nothing more than to take the time to talk with you. I'll bet my husband and I spent at least 2 hours last night chatting with different employees around here, and we had to peel ourselves away from the lovely chatting to get freshened up for supper.
Oh, and let me tell you about supper! The soup was velvety, the salad was crunchy and fresh! The rolls were little puffs of clouds that melted in your mouth as you bit into them. The wine was refreshing and smooth. The main course was full of flavor, texture, and more than filling. The dessert was so delicious that we forced ourselves to eat every bit even though we were full after the first couple of bites. We stayed well after they had closed, but never felt rushed to get out.
We have extended our stay another night, with plans to come back at least once a year to enjoy our little getaway. DO NOT miss out on this wonderful experience. You will regret that you haven't made this place a priority on your vacation list! I'm off to go enjoy more of the Fairview.
