If I could leave a 0 star I would. This place is trashy, and they treated me so disrespectfully. I am discovering new bars, and I became a member a few days ago, they have to scan your ID to do so. This time all I "apparently" had to do was sign in with my number, it shows my name and age. The Bar Tender with short blonde/brown hair still asked me for my ID. Whats the point of becoming a member then? I tell him I just signed in, I shouldn't have too (he doesn't ask my friend for hers). He said "WELL I DON'T KNOW YOU!" Why would he?... whatever, I give him the ID and he rolls his eyes. He doesn't apologize, if anything he gets cocky. Then the skinny dude with long hair who is the "bouncer" named ACE is an absolutely even ruder person, when he is the one who signed me up last time. I ask him do you remember me, he says yes you came in a few days ago but if the bar tender wants your ID he can get it, just because I remember you doesn't matter. He continued to mock me for turning 21 a couple months ago smiling in my face. I told him "You dont have to be rude..." and he goes "Well thats life". Uhhh this is the environment you guys deem normal? I tell him "You just made me have a bad experience here.." he laughs and walks off. They snicker together like little kids. Talk about "mean girls". Worst experience I have ever had at a bar in Asheville, let alone an establishment. And the people playing pool are no better. This dude jabbed my friend in the back with his pool stick because she was taking her shot?! Not to mention many people, including the bouncer himself SMOKING ciggs in the pool room when there is a designated smoke area outside. AND there is a no smoking sign in the pool room. They think if the door is open it makes it okay? Some people have asthma...? I left reeking. If you're an outgoing person, this is not the place for you. Definitely not women friendly at all. Just a bunch of rude stuck up negative men. !!!UPDATE: The fact they responded and tried to say I was lying goes to show how much they care😂. No one is doing a wonderful job if they feel the need to speak disrespectfully for not knowing me. I had no problem becoming a member, it was the distastefulness that came with being made fun for being 21? I had became a member long before this rude encounter. I am a local guide and leave honest reviews. Thanks for showing your concern! It only validated my review. Dont have a no smoking sign if its jus BS, and train your employees to have some generosity toward ALL LEGAL ages

Just your great local dive bar ur Alex is amazing at the bar love him. The food is pretty good but the fried raviolis are my jam. Love meeting my friends here after work and it's a safe fun and friendly environment.

This was on my list as a place that served good Philly's. I'm bummed that the food was such a letdown because the back deck and grassy areas are beautiful little hideaways and it's clearly a place for locals. The bartender knew everyone and folks had their go-to orders. They still do the NC bar membership thing, but it's free. The bartender was super nice and helped me get signed up. You order at the bar and they bring your food to you. I ordered a philly and tots and went to sit on the back deck. The sandwich was unseasoned and dry and the tots were undercooked. I hate hard potatoes. Had the bread been fresher and had the meat been properly sopping, it could've stood a chance, but the only moisture in the sandwich came from the oil used to fry the peppers and onions, and at the end of the day it still wasn't seasoned. If I went back it'd just be to drink, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Went here with some friends to celebrate a post-sport match win. They require a membership to enter, and unlike other places that still do this, they don't allow guests to accompany members. While I was trying to read the terms and details on their sign-up iPad, the employee kept dismissing the screen as I was reading. I had to ask him to stop so I could finish. They also ask for, IMO, an excessive amount of personal information. I asked if I could just remain as a guest of someone who agreed to sign up—which is common at other membership-based places—but was told no, I had to leave. I genuinely don’t understand why this place still enforces memberships when the law requiring them has been repealed. Based on other reviews, this is quite common, and the quality of services and experience you get here is quite inconsistent. Clearly, I’m not their target customer—and honestly, thank God for that.

The Fairveiw Tavern is one of those neighborhood bars that seem to be dissolving in the diluted New Asheville experience. If you would like a “scooby snack” or a “blue crack” or some other dumb college freshman drink, maybe go find some other dumb bar in Asheville to drink at… you shouldn’t have a hard time. Good service, easy vibe, 3 pool tables, about a million dart boards. The food is really good for bar food. “The Tavern” has a tight, small menu with some usual suspects with their own Tavern twist. Nice porch. Nice big back yard with disc golf putting opportunities.

First visit today with my sister. Crystal was so accommodating and served up a few great beers. Look forward to stopping again for a snack!

Had a nice time stopping in here and meeting up with some friends in the Asheville area. They have FREE POOL! And please scope out the size of their TV in the photos! I’m sooo happy I found a place to watch my games when in town.

Google
Nice little tavern. A bit dark, but clean. Not quite a dive, but not a family restaurant. Entrees are good, but a couple dollars more than expected for just a sandwich with no sides. Very friendly and helpful staff. I enjoyed our visit.

Yelp
Total little neighborhood gem. Still got that hipster (real hipster) energy. A little grungy and a little rub down but in the best of ways. Came in an hour before close and they were already packing up. The bartender was super approachable and helpful. Great staff. Plenty of options- form liquor to beer and beyond. Had some enticing specials- was a weeknight There are pool tables in back- for free. Nice little porch area. Kind people inside- one guy played pool with us. Seemed like a legit local crowd.

Yelp
Great people, place and food! The burger was amazing and I will be going back for more! See you there!

Yelp
Worth my time to stop in. Love the hospitality and food! Had the pickle fries, they are really great! The Philly Steak has the best bun on the market. Stop in and get yourself some great food!

Yelp
The bartender who works Sunday nights is the rudest I have meet in Asheville so far. And I don't think he knows it but I am a masochist and loved the extremely rude and hostile experience that he created for someone who tipped well and enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you Fairview Tavern !!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
I was denied service there. They want my personal information before I can buy a drink or purchase something to eat. Membership rules in Asheville North Carolina have changed they treated me with no respect at all I will never go back there

Yelp
Went in for a fun time. The website advertised games like pool, pinball and darts. The one "indoor" pool table was out of order. Pinball, darts, and all the other pool tables are in another room they call "outside" where smoking is allowed. This room is enclosed and conditioned. It is not outside and cigarette smoke is thick in the air. Don't come here. To be fair, there is some plastic sheeting over an opening in one wall... I still can't breathe in here.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
The main reason I will never go here again is because of the cigarette smoke. I sat inside. It shouldn't be smoky inside, but the lack of proper separation between the outdoor enclosed smoking patio and the indoor seating area causes the whole interior to be completely saturated with cigarette smoke. I was there for a get-together with work friends otherwise I would have left immediately. Additionally, they were out of the one food item I wanted to order. The bathrooms were not appalling, but didn't sparkle either. The pricing is just the same as any other bar in Asheville. Only pros: They seem to have a decent selection of beers and spirits. The staff was nice and friendly.

Yelp
A great place to hang out with friends and be normal and happy. I'm very sensitive to cigarette smoke and the smell in there doesn't bother my allergies at all. The food is really good and they have my fave top shelf tequila! Love this spot - a real gem hidden away in Oakley.

Yelp
My wife and I were on a driving-trip south last summer and found the Fairview Tavern (on-line) while searching for some comfort food and a cold beverage...it was great! Great atmosphere, the best steak sandwich we haver ever had, and a great selection of beers. We liked it so much that later this month we are traveling south again with another couple who's husband has been gravely ill. Since we will be only a several hour drive away in SC, we will be making this worthwhile drive over to the Tavern again! Then to the Blue Ridge Parkway and heading back to upstate NY. We'll be back again...no doubt.

Yelp
Really kewl little hidden gem. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The smoked wigs are phenomenal. They always have great specials in food and drinks. Great bands, and comedy nights. Really love this place.

Yelp
Went there for the first time July 9. Food was okay. Had an overcooked hot dog. But my friend and I became uncomfortable when the over served slurring bald guy who was there with his wife with a medical uniform on became aggressive looking for a fight. We decided to just leave as it became pretty scary. By the reaction of the bartender it seemed it was the norm. Wouldn't go back. Suggest you stay away.

Yelp
Plenty of parking, cheese steaks are amazing! Great customer service. TV's, pool tables, and to-go service. Full bar and patio, and additional lawn space.

Yelp
Simply won't be back! Where to start? My brothers frequent this bar, I just go because it's right down the street from our house. Nothing special. Just cheaper drinks than downtown. My cousin and I check in first, after buying my like 100th Fairview tavern membership card we sit down to have a drink. I turn around and my brother is having a hard time checking in. He says the security won't let him In because he doesn't have his ID. When I ask the bar tender to vouch for him, because she has served him numerous times. She would not. I explained that as many times as he's tipped her, generously, she should at least know his name. She proceeded to tell me she in fact DOES know his name. & she knows that he's of age 32 years old to be exact and still would not let him in. Considering we were the darkest people in the room it really just felt like Fairview tavern would only care to see white people in their establishment. But what's new in America? Thanks for being "that bar"

Yelp
I really like this place! My husband and I split a regular sized South Philly with chips and we were both full afterwards. I had a Bloody Mary ($4 special) and he had a soft drink, and our bill was under $16. Service was friendly and food was tasty. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town!

Yelp
Gonna miss the Fairview when I move. Great dive bar with good food and a decent tap list I've helped influence along with some solid spirits. Love that it's just down the street and has a consistent locals vibe. It's treated me well for 5 years.

Yelp
This is the worst bar in town. The staff is rude, very unpleasant, and very unpredictable. I spent over $100 on sub-par food and drinks. The owner, days later, actually made accusations that had nothing to do with me other than myself being Hispanic. The contents of the insults are beneath mentioning (plus I would possibly be banned from yelp for repeating them). I Wouldn't recommend this so-called tavern to my worst enemy. Horrible atmosphere, horrible service, and sub-par food. Take my advice and go anywhere else but here if you're looking for food. If you want a bar, skip this one and find yourself a decent place without watered-down drinks, and that welcomes high paying customers.

Yelp
We went to Fairview Tavern on the advice of a neighbor in Asheville. It is a private club but it's only a dollar so if you put the card in your wallet, shouldn't be a problem. We had a beer, a mixed drink, half dozen wings with some carrots and celery, a Philly cheesesteak with a side of homemade chips and a hotdog with homemade chili. This for $31.00. The food was very good and the price was reasonable especially for Asheville. Staff was nice and accommodating. It seemed as if it was free pool nite and that side of the tavern seemed busy. Will definitely go back. We are both in our 50's and yes we get carded because it's the law. Bring your ID.

Yelp
Great bar set to the side. Reasonable drunk prices and the food isn't too bad. The other shitty reviews are silly. If you don't have an i.d. you don't get in anywhere in town.

Yelp
I love this place! We've gone here many times and always have fun. They have pool tables and many dart boards, our favorite! We've played dart league matches here and they are always so accommodating. The owner is such a cool person and she remembers all her customers. And the food is delicious, especially the cheesesteaks. Outside areas to sit and relax in too, makes this a great bar all year around.
google avatar

Joanna F.

Yelp
You've got to try these Cheesesteaks! When Lexi is at the grill, Philly has nothing on Asheville.
google avatar

Sean C.

Yelp
Visiting from philly checked in late and this was our first stop. So glad we foubd this gem, staff is a blast and pricing is fair. Turned out the owner is from philly and they get their rolls for cheesesteaks delivered to give a true authentic philly cheesesteak. Definitly recommend stopping in here if travelling or just want a dive sports bar with good poeple.
google avatar

Yelp
Come for the Philly Cheesesteak, if you don't you're missing out!!! A hidden gem of a bar, great food, tons of beers, drink specials, live music, pool and darts; everything you need in a bar. Definitely a locals hangout, but lots of friendly people. I heard about their Philly from a friend, and it definitely didn't disappoint. You can choose from the meat and cheese (provolone, cheese wiz or BOTH!), S Philly with onions and peppers, or the kitchen sink with peppers, onions, banana peppers, mushrooms, crushed hot cherry peppers (I think that's it). They are very accommodating, so they can do any combo you can think of. They also have chicken or veggie Philly's too. Tons of fresh made sides and great apps, the fried mushrooms are particularly good. Wash it all down with a tall boy PBR and it's a night! Just remember, it's a members bar (funky NC law), so bring a dollar fo a membership and leave the kids at home.

Yelp
My friend had her birthday party here or I'd never heard of this place. Rocking chairs on a big old fashioned porch. TVs and a big bar with local and many other beers. Full bar if you're not a beer person. Bartender is awesome, friendly and makes good drinks. Tables around the huge indoor space. A pool table and more pool tables in another room. I come back every time I'm on that side of town. The people there are from all walks of life and all enjoy each other's company. This place is a hidden gem.

Yelp
A disgusting dive bar with a questionable cleanliness rating. We were meeting friends here, but they wouldn't let me and my wife in the door. She didn't have id with her, being that we're both nearly 40 and it's not really smart to carry a purse into a place like this. I guess all the show security says something about what kind of clientele they expect. You really don't want to go here, and they probably don't want you here either.

John M.

Yelp
Bad choice. I usually go for the 10 dollar steak night. Should have kept with that. Went on a Friday. Wings, a salad, and 1 beer; 23 bucks!!! And no heat in the bar. Really..no heat! Nothing off the check, just an I'm sorry. Ridiculous!!!!

Yelp
Live in W. Asheville, and looking for a place flexible enough to let a Canadian watch the hockey playoffs. Place is very cozy, and staff was terrific. Several screens at the bar and elsewhere that they were more than happy to tune in for me. Good beer and light menu at very reasonable prices. Been several time now. Other customers always friendly and easy-going. Definitely my go-to place when there's a game I want to see.

Michael D.

Yelp
I stumbled onto the Fairview Tavern on a recent trip to Asheville. I returned on the other two days I was in town. The beer was cold and the patrons were real easy to talk to. They were welcoming and helpful to an out-of-town visitor. I am saving the 5th star for when I return and try the food.
