We were sitting in our car, trying to pick a place to buy some takeout dinner from and ended up choosing Falafel King as we happened to be parked right outside the restaurant and the aroma of their food wafted through the air towards us. Chicken Plate Veggie Plate Lamb Plate Each plate was generously packed with food.There was salad, hummus dip and pita bread. The food turned out to be just OK. It wasn't horrible, but the smell of it from our car was better than what we actually tasted. The meat and falafels were both a bit on the dry side. Same great deal and delicious foods as well as good customer services.

It was okay for the money I guess. Falafel wasn’t warmed up and the flavour was just okay. Person working couldn’t find soup bowls so we couldn’t get the combo. I’m sure there are way better falafel places around here

What you see is NOT what you get, both price and food wise... Chicken Wrap was disgusting; dry and burnt.. my wife's Falafel was ok, again, didn't get what we ordered and charged extra...don't bother...

Me and my friend ordered the falafel plate and it was amazing! The portion was huge for only 10$ per person and the cook was friendly! :) I will definitely come back!

One of the best Middle Eastern food spots for in the entire city. And I say this as a Middle Easterner. Also it's a mom and pop shop & I love supporting local. The chicken plate in particular, absolutely wonderful.

There's a guy on the street who forces you in and makes you buy something there (not sure if he's a friend or employee of the owner) so beware. Bought a chicken shawarma. Burnt and dry chicken pieces inside, not much chicken and loosely wrapped. He was in such a rush to throw the order into the take out bag. Asked for payment before adding the soup. Had to request for Shawarma to be warmed up/ they don't toast it. Hot sauce available. Chicken had good flavour.

I noticed this place walking to another restaurant and gave it a try. I got the chicken shawarma and it was great. The wrap was full of chicken and there were a couple of crispy pieces that were DELICIOUS. The owners are also super nice and love to chat with customers (yes its annoying when you want to get in and out but its a mom n pop shop!).

I wavered between one and two stars but since there are other equivalent places literally steps away on Denman Street that are much, much better I decided to rate this low. Not much good to say about the food that I ordered today, which was a beef wrap that had weird spongy beef stuff in it rather than what I assumed would be Shawarma type. I kind of wish that I didn't pay for it but at $10 all in I didn't have the energy to complain. I like when my wraps hold together but this one disintegrated so much that I had to go in and ask the rather nice fellow for a fork; plastic unfortunately. It's a very small space with seating inside and a couple of tables on the street. Nothing seemed unclean etc., it's just that the food really wasn't good. I noticed that most of the reviews are two years old or more, so I guess this place needs some more ratings to give it an honest ranking. But that would require you going and eating here which I don't recommend. Lots of styrofoam containers on the inside ready for use as well.

The donairs here are huge! And so are the Shwarma plate. I usually have the Chicken Schwarma and for less than $12 taxes in I am full. Meal comes with rice, salad, this amazing humus, pita bread, a large portion of chicken and a can of pop. It really fills you up and is tasty as heck. They have two tables set out front which is good for people watch. The owner works the store and is friendly. This place has good simple food in a good location served by a friendly owner for a good price.

John is the Falafel King, and has been for 27 years in the same location. As a fan of his basic falafel plate, I can attest to thoroughly enjoying each and every one he has ever made for me. It's a small shop located in the heart of the Denman action, with a few tables inside and out (on the sidewalk) for you to sit and enjoy your donair fare. John has seen the Denman strip change of his time there, "in the early days, we were the only donair shop in Vancouver, we had lines out the door all day long." His wall photos may be a little out of date, but the pics still give the customer a good idea of what's available, and John is always happy to give you details on any of his menu. Along with his donair menu, he's got a large selection of fresh squeezed fruit juice combinations. Fresh fruit juice and a veggie falafel, a lovely lunch or dinner for a "$" price tag. And for those of you who wrote about his cleanliness or lack thereof, I have been coming for quite some time now and never seen anything that would make me not want to eat there. Hey, he's been there for 27 years, in the same spot, it doesn't make sense to me that if he's that 'dirty' with his food prep that he hasn't been closed down by now. Here's to 27 more years!

Visiting from California and came across this utter gem. The food is dank, the falafels are God tier, the prices are a steal for the amount and quality of these grinds. Vegan friendly and apparently also gr8 beef & chicken. Lastly some priceless wholesome energy via the falafel man.

Delicious! Chicken shawarma was delicious and had a generous serving of meat. Randomly stumbled upon this place and had to go back. I love how the meat has a well done outside but moist inside. Service was friendly.

Do not be fooled by this little hole in the wall restaurant. The line starts to the left to order :) Yummmm....... I can smell the spices from this place as I was walking down Denman street. My friend says I have to try this place out. He's been eating here for years and loves it. I look at the place. It's small, it's cramped and there is very little seating. But the owner is cool and friendly. The food is outstanding and tasty. The price is super cheap!! I don't usually have the chicken donair, because I always think it will be dry. It wasn't. It was flavourful and moist. My friend had the chicken shawarma platter that came with hummus and tabouleh. We were both definitely not disappointed.

Was galavanting in the area and became hungry at dinner time. Was in the mood for falafels and seeing this restaurant called what it is peaked my interest. There was a couple ahead of me in the process of paying and person I'm assuming was the owner took my order. I saw him process their payment and immediately after without washing his hands reached into a container and threw in some premade falafels into the microwave. He prepped my plate with a basic salad and a small spoonful of tabouleh. In under a minute the falafels were done and they were doused in sauce. Long story short the falafels were very soggy and tasteless, very disappointed as the restaurant claims they were kings. The salad was okay.

If you like shawarma and you like flavour then this is Authentic proper food! It's literally the best !!!! I love love love this places food !! The owner is super nice and hooks me up with some extra rice no charge if I ask which is awesome and the tabouli is to die for:)

Small donair joint, this is one of several in the area that I frequent, I always grab my donair to go and usually head down the block and take a stroll to English bay or Stanley Park. I'm somewhat of a donair/shawarma connoisseur. I must say Falafel King is in my top 3 favorite donair spots in Vancouver. The thing that sets them apart from the many donair spots in the area is the well seasoned chicken. I always go for chicken as I'm not a fan of the generic beef loaf many other establishments use. Like I said the real star is the well seasoned and marinated chicken. Quick service in & out in 2 minutes.

ONLY and ways go to denman location Todays sharwma was amazing lots of sause and great tasting chicken and rice today really goes well together he always is reasonably priced

Not being honest with customers is wrong, When I asked the owner if they use canned or real garbanzo beans for their humus , he was swearing to God that no way they would use canned beans, I trusted him he looked so sincere and convincing, I went many times after, but one morning I got there super early and saw the older guy rinsing huge can of beans, Liar liar liar !! shame on you never again Falafel King, I go to Ofra 's next door for clean fresh authentic middle eastern food. I don't trust these people

Purchased an absolutely horrible chicken wrap. The taste wasn't good at all, tomatoes weren't fresh and mushy. Staff wasn't wearing a mask. On top of everything I had a food poisoning symptoms after eating the wrap. Will never come back!!!

Decent, reliable, consistent. Those are the hallmarks of good fast food. Bonus points when the fast food is healthy (relatively - at least it has veggies!). The lamb pita is my favourite here - slices of lamb (prepared in a similar way to gyro meat elsewhere), a very flavourful tahini, lettuce, tomato, and hot sauce to taste. The lamb has a nice garlic flavour to it. For what it is they serve up a reliable quick meal. My understanding is that this family has this spot and two of the falafel spots on Davie - apparently there is some sibling rivalry and they like to talk smack about the other locations! To get them started just ask how they are related to the other 2 locations and "is the food the same?" You'll get a long detailed reply that will potentially give you a good chuckle while you eat your quick bite.

There are about 4 other similar restaurants along the same street but I am happy that we decided on this one! The owner was very friendly and the food was tasty! The chicken shawarma was very tender and not salty like others I have tried! My meal was less than $10 and very filling! Another good thing about eating here is that you can go for gelato next door for dessert!

I have literally been coming to this place for 20 years. It's my GO TO place for a quick, delicious meal when visiting English Bay. The owners are the same! For 20 years it has always been the same guys working the counter and they are so friendly and nice. Yesterday, I came here as part of a group of 4. I ordered my usual meal - the chicken schwarma plate - it never fails to disappoint. Heaps of perfectly charred chicken, delicious tabouleh salad with tons of parsley, a massive dollop is hummus, pita bread, and rice. For the past couple of years I have asked for salad instead of rice and pita bread and the owners happily oblige. They make the plate a spicy as you want it. This place is awesome for people watching as people walk by on the Denman sidewalk, and quite frankly, I'd rather eat here than anywhere else. It is absolutely worth it to come downtown, if only to come here and do nothing else. I can't believe I waited this long to write a review!

Ah, Falafel King how I have missed you. This is not fine dining, but when I lived in Vancouver I was in here often. I usually have the chicken shawarma platter. Nice hommous, great tangy tabouli, tons of rice that I never have room for, and a generous helping of chicken. Yummy every time! Not fancy, not gourmet, but always makes me wish that Victoria had a bit more Middle Eastern food.

Really good Chicken Shrawma but not quite as good as Babylon a few doors down.

Like the other reviewer said, the falafels are microwaved to order which is a big nono. However, even worse, the guy making my wrap took payment (in cash) from another customer while he was waiting for my falafel to finish microwaving. Afterwards, without washing his hands, he proceeds to assemble the wrap. This involved using his fingers to grab the vegetables and also squishing the falafels. I was hesitant to even take any bites, but I decided to try it since the place was moderately busy when I went. Not to my surprise, the falafel was much too salty and I threw it away after a bite or two because I didn't want to get sick from the unhygenic food procedures. It seems like this place may have been decent before, but it has since gone downhill. The person who served me, who I assume is the owner, seems to have lost his passion for his craft and now only does the bare minimum to please the customers that return for nostalgia's sake. All in all I'm pretty disappointed because this place has been here forever and I always walk by it.

I'm a Doner snob (yes Doner, spelled the true Turkish way) and once I realized this precious favorite had been completely butchered in canada and stuffed into a pita bread renamed "donair" I prepared myself for disappointment... But I found a few spots that at least delivered a decent version of this Turkish/German staple. Falafel king uses juicy chicken and meats with flavor that at least make up for the shortcomings, and it's one of two places in te city I'll ever visit for a sandwich! Be sure to get a cup of lentil soup - it's the best in the city.

My wife and I visited this place about 8pm the night of the fireworks. There was only one person in front of us in line so wasn't too busy. We got a Shawarma and and Samosa meal to share. The meat in the Shawarma was very dry, no sauces were put in it to make it palatable - we couldn't even finish it. The Samosa's were very doughy and avg at best. The best thing about the meal was the Hummus and the salad which was OK, very hard to mess up those items though. I know it sounds harsh but I don't think I would visit here again given all the other amazing options on Denman St, they unfortunately had one chance and missed the mark for me.

A tiny hole in the wall alternative to the fast food in the area. Not much to look at, but they make up for it with the food. I usually stick to the chicken shwarma plate, because unfortunately they microwave their falafel (why I gave them 3 stars and not 4). For 7 bucks, you get a HUGE meal - it usually works out into two for me. Unlike most of the similar places I've tried, the meat is so flavorful and juicy. Just don't forget the hot sauce. It seems like a no-brainer, but the Falafel King knows his falafel, no? Looking to grab a quick bite for a late lunch, we found ourselves in the royal palace of the Falafel King. Actually there isn't anything regal about this little hole-in-the-wall kebab joint at all other than the name, but that's OK. All we were after was a tasty, quick, and inexpensive meal-- which is exactly what this place delivered! My sandwich was a big double-handed pita stuffed with freshly prepared falafel, veggies, tzatziki, and hot sauce. The meal was ready in less than 10 minutes and cost less than $10. Right on!

The seasoning on the food is amazing. I love this place specially their chicken plate and wrap. I'm always impressed by how juicy the meat is and the larger portions it comes in. It is also located right in front of the beach so it is so convenient.

After receiving no attention at Capstone Tea, we decided to eat here because it was convenient. The portions at this hole-in-the-wall fast food chain were huge! We couldn't finish our lamb and hummus with rice combos, which were yummy. Too bad there aren't any locations in South Bay. If there's anything that's missing in South Bay, it's good, fairly-priced Middle Eastern food.

This is my number one place for a chicken swarma plate. I have been coming here for about 7 years or so. Usually its on the way back from a hike or snowshoe up one of the local mountains. The swarma plate is so huge it usually takes a really good hunger to tackle it.Comes with rice, humous, taballeah, lots of chicken,a pita and suaces. The falafel sandwich is another favourite. Last night I had a craving that only the Falafel King could handle so I jumped in the car and pretty much drove from one end of Vancouver to the other. Well worth the trip.

Ordered 2 lamb shawarma for take out. They gave us chicken. How does the bossman mistake LAMB for dried out chicken??! Check your order before you leave.

Somethings never change and even though it appears that there has been a few ownership changes at this location, the food remains consistent and affordable. When I lived in the West End I survived off of this place. Last Sunday for Father's Day we decided to go down to Denman to walk around. It happened to be the same day a Denman's (annual?) car-free day. After looking at the exhibits and some street performances, that familiar aroma called to me and my wife. We sat down inside, ordered 3 drinks and two shawarma plates and it all came to under $20. Perfect!!

I love love love this place. I can smell the spices from a block away (in fact, that's how I first ended up eating here!) and everything is reeeeeeeeeeally delicious. I used to eat meat, and their chicken shawarma is one of the only things I miss now that I'm veggie! Their vegetarian plate is a great deal, and has a little bit of everything, like a mini buffet table for one. It's a big portion; usually makes two full meals for me. Falafel King's food has been a part of some of my favorite times in Vancouver: Pick up a shawarma wrap (or a veggie plate now!), drive to Ambleside beach, drop the tailgate on the truck and have dinner while watching the sun set. Of course, now that we don't have the truck anymore, we just grab our food, walk over to English Bay and do the same thing...except there are more seagulls there!

The trouble here seems to be one of cleanliness. I honestly don't know how I didn't figure it out sooner, but I finally realized that I contracted food poisoning from them several times. I ate an average of a few meals a week, with an average of one instance of food poisoning a year. The final sickness (probably 7-8th) was THE WORST and finally turned me off for good. To be fair, I ate here regularly for a long time. The staff are also very nice and hard-working. I always got a falafel plate, which seemed like a good value. Let's just say buyer beware..

Falafel King - Fal awful - The pita bread seemed weeks old broke apart the second you take your first bite. Not only was the food cold and old, but the service was terrible. The lentil soup has a few lentils in some water..The staff need lessons in basic hygiene, and probably a visit from the health department. There are so many great places for Middle Eastern on Denman - don't waste your time or money here, I know I never will again.

This place always gets rave reviews.. I don't know why! I got the chicken shawarma plate.. Half the chicken is fat and skin! It's disgusting? !! I don't know about anyone else.. But i don't like biting into chicken fat! I will not be back! Too many other good places around here that has shawarma plates.

We were walking down the street and my wife said "This place smells good." As we walked in, a local said "This place is the best." We went in and were not disappointed. I had the Chicken Plate. The hummus was outstanding and the chicken had a great flavor. The owners have been in the same place for 30 years and I can see why.

Today is Friday Oct, 27, 2017. While on one week vacation in the Beautiful city of Vancouver, BC, CA. I went to Falafel King on Denman St to try the Falafel Wrap. 1) The falafel was not fried to order, it was just sitting their waiting for customers. (Note: If falafel is not deep fried to order, don't eat it). 2) when I ordered the falafel wrap, the man behind the counter took the falafel pieces and shoved them in the microwave for about one minute, When I saw that, I immediately regretted my order. After one minute of the microwave torture chamber, The man asked me what do I want with the falafel in the wrap. I told him I don't want a lot of things because I want to taste the chickpeas. so I Had to tell him to put tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and of course falafel must have Tahini sauce. The falafel wrap failed the visual test, The smell test was more failure, The taste test was a disaster. there was no chickpeas taste in the falafel. I asked the man what do put in this ball of doughy "falafel" shape thing? He said chickpeas, this and that and flour. I found out that if does not add flour to the mix, he is not able to deep fry it. Imagine putting flour dough in the microwave. The name of the restaurant is Falafel King and to me this was the biggest irony. I started asking the guys behind the counter about why their falafel have no taste of chickpeas. They began telling me that they have been in business for decades and they are the kings of falafel. Very stubborn-headed people with their sight only looking ahead like horses wearing blinkers (no disrespect). At first entering Falafel King, we noticed the out of date food pictures. Generally I like pictures of food, because it helps to know what you're getting... But in this case, the pictures were sepia and likely from the 1980's. Not very appetizing. We ordered the falafel wrap, which we thought... "how could this go wrong?" immediately the man behind the counter wearing a wife beater grabbed the ingredients in his hand and threw them together, then put it in the microwave. Afterwards he grabbed the falafel with his sweaty hands and pressed his thumbs deep into the falafel until a thumb imprint was left on it. Christopher noticing this atrocity nearly walked out then, but for some reason, we took the wraps, paid, and left. Overall we would not recommend the Falafel King. More like Falafel pawn.

I usually come here for a chicken shwarma plate but this time I tried the lamb wrap and boy! it was so good I had another one. The lamb had a tangyness to it and very flavorful. I wish they could use a better pita though and their falafel is micrwaved (can you say not crispy) .Their pita taste like cardboard and isn't good compared to Falafel Plus.

On the occasion i stopped here to order food..i promptly left because the employee cross contaminated.. from ringing in the food and handling money to making of the food without washing his hands ..no way! Not ok!

Definitely one of my fave drop in eateries whenever I'm in the West End...and The ONLY place to eat a donair in Vancouver. Ordered the chicken shawarma, juicy, well seasoned and a double handful! All for under $10 w a soda! Best eaten on a park bench overlooking English Bay! Especially at sunset!! Yum!

I love this place too, every trip to Vancouver (for over 20 years) includes a chicken Shawarma wrap @ Falafel king. I suppose just one time I should try their Felafel, I don't know of any other $7 food purchase in my whole life that makes me this happy.

Been awhile since I have been here but I have gone many times so I am confident it is still great. I usually got the chicken shawarma plate... Soooo good... but now that I have gone back to my vegetarian roots I will enjoy my falafel again which is just as good! The service has never been amazing but the food was always good and I have always left satisfied.

Falafel King is by far the best shawarma in Vancouver. The food is delicious, the portions are huge and the staff is kind.

I had the vegetarian plate and it was delicious. I recommend getting the hot sauce on it, yum! I was surprised at how flavorful the dish was, particularly the samosa. The guys behind the counter are super sweet with excellent service. Thank you for a fantastic dinner!

I hate their microwave oven. Instead of cutting the meat for you they warm up something in their microwave and put it in your food. Not a good practice.

Had the shawarma plate. Very decent toboulleh and humus. The shawarma was good but not great. Good value for decent food.
