Where to Eat, Stay, and Play in Umbria—The 'Green Heart of Italy'

"To fuel up for a hike or a walk along the shores of Lake Trasimeno, first-time visitors simply must try the 'torta al testo,' a flatbread cooked on a stone stove and stuffed with grilled sausages and herbs or prosciutto and pecorino cheese. This typical Umbrian 'street food' can usually be found in any rustic bar around any town in Umbria. Still, locals and foreigners agree that the best torta al testo is the one at Faliero's, a small establishment next to Lake Trasimeno, as Maria's version (the owner) is genuinely out of this world."

Definitely a worthwhile detour. This place is what you want if you want to experience Italy the Italian way. Very few tourists. We were puzzled at the gifantic parking lot on arrival on a US dinner schedule, arriving at 6:30. By 9 when we left it was packed on a Sunday night. The place is in the middle of nowhere with a magnificent view of the sunset over Lago Trisimeno and a huge outdoor seating area to be sure as many people as possible get to enjoy it. The food is a trip, starting with the menu on a huge easel, followed by a take-your-number thingy. You then find your spot and keep an eye on the large electronic number board and head inside into the fracass to place your order. The food comes right quick. Very decent prices, excellent grilled meats and sausages, wonderful tortas bread used for sandwiches, mixed salad comes with sliced star anise. Yum! Grab a beer or a bottle of local wine, sit with some friends, and enjoy a cheap meal in a divine location served up by a family that has been doing this for years while watching the sun go down over the lake. What could be better?

A chaotic experience for the uninitiated! Grab a ticket, and a table then wait for your number to come up to order food. Really fast service even if numbers are huge, great value also with lovely view of the lake.

Ordering was chaos, but the food was excellent, especially the tortas (sandwiches) and fried foods. The pasta wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad either. I would suggest sticking to the tortas.

This is a review of the restaurant. This place is incredibly popular, and based to the other reviews especially on weekends. Despite the crowd, we got our ticket and stood in line—it took us less than an hour, which was impressive given how busy it was. Once you place your order, it’s ready almost immediately. Everything was fresh, and the flavors were excellent. The prices are very reasonable, and both the quantity and quality of the food are outstanding. The location offers a beautiful view, both during the day and at night, which makes the experience even more special. As tourists, we thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Only stopped here for a bite to eat. Although you may feel this is like a nice cafe/services area when you arrive, the location, food and service was exceptional. Staff were brilliant. They make their own dough on the premises.

The review is for the restaurant Super local and super popular on weekend Very crowded Took us a while to understand the order process. Then got our ticket and stood in line. Took us more than an hour. Once ordered, you get your order right then. We ordered mixed seafood platter, tiramisu and a fish dish Everything was fresh and taste was good Getting a table was tough Price is very reasonable Quantity is great We enjoyed the experience as tourists
